Not impossible. Carltank had the chance to do it in 2013!

Good call ?

Rona just continues to give to Victoria - & interstaters will continue to benefit with home ground advantage.

That said we're all done with Tioges era - a new one dawns.....

How was Ryan’s kick to Kennedy judged over 15 m?  - should have been play-on for mine.

It clearly wasn't. I wouldn't want to buy real estate from those umpires!!

It went about half as far as the kick marked by Cameron at the end of the Swans - Geelong game which was not paid

Game No. 5 of this season  decided by bad umpiring in the final minute. It was 8 ms if it was anything.

You just can't be close near the end of the game to take umpiring out of the equation. double free kicks- again - to eagles.

But I thought the tiges looked off esp in forward entries and now don't fear then in September. Dusty trying too hard reminded me of the Dees pre-2021.

Reiwoldt unsighted when needed.

Nic Nat's feeding of his midfield in center  was sublime and Tiges just seemed unable to cope

Actually there were 3 game results turned by atrocious umpiring decisions this round for a total of 6 so far for the season.
Adelaide/Saints - Dubious free kick to Thilthorpe  at the death.

North /GWS - Umpire  failed to pay blatant incorrect disposal by North in front of GWS goal in the dying minutes.

It has been a pattern with Riewoldt this season. In most games starts red hot then disappears.

I only watched the last five minutes, while I agree about the kick not being 15 metres I also thought Richmond got away with a couple of throws in that period.

But, but, we’re told umpiring doesn’t impact the outcome.

No way was that 15m.

Interestingly nobody has focused on the mark itself.....which wasn't in fact a mark!  Whilst he gets his hand under the footy, the belly of the ball is clearly in contact with the grass.  Not that I'm unhappy with the result!

If the umps called that play on they would be copping flak similar to the Cameron mark. You can see where it was kicked and marked below.

Must say I thought that at first but I think he had his forearm between the ball and the ground. It was certainly close

maybe not, but that view shows it was a lot closer to 15m than the view seemed to show on tv

there were longer ones called play on during the game

Have always wondered about people who spend so much of their time videoing the game.

Went to the Soccer World cup in Russia in 2018. People would video games from start to finish.

Sure a minute here and there but whole matches.

Whoever would watch them?

That was even my comment?

Agred they threw it a few times IMO.  But the Kennedy mark was 60 ish seconds to go and a game changing opportunity.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
