One of their top 3 players? Is it really that grim over there?

If you ever want to get 'killed' in Albury there is a pizza shop in Dean St, if you go at 1.00am you are assured of a punch in the face and you get your name in the local paper.  Apparently they are queued up out the front....

Good old  'Sweethearts' pizza joint. That place is always packed after all the army lads have had their drinking sesh at the 'Bended Elbow'. Fun times indeed!

he's a very, very good player

How's he going to survive if he's not good enough to play at VFL,  SANFL, or WAFL level?

The same way that every other junior drafted does?

The NAB League is under 19’s now, plenty of guys get drafted at 19 without state league form. But my guess is as a standout performer it’s very likely that they would’ve organised a link with a VFL club at some stage later in the year. Or maybe playing local footy against men and the young guns game means he didn’t need it.

I think it's a great time to bring in a young key defender - he has the best individuals and team defenders to learn off.

Also think this might be the writing on the wall for Hore and Smith - like them both as players but from memory both OOC at the end of the year?

yeah both Smith and Hore seem to struggle to get out there and stay fit and healthy most of the time. probably best to keep looking for alternatives like they have with this guy Turner.

Looks like Jeremy Cameron. Hopefully he plays like him.

I was thinking those arms look abit like a McGovern from West Coast.

I’d be getting rid of them. Both have more than had enough opportunity. Injuries haven’t helped, but to contribute you have to be out there and these guys unfortunately haven’t been able to get on the park. The delicate balance is to determine the likelihood of them getting out there, in comparison to an unproven player. Opportunity doesn’t sit idle when we are always trying to unearth future stars.

Well put KDAL.

The secret is to prioritise the NOW but in the rear vision mirror keep  the future balanced and active for those  rainy days  ahead.

Great work Footy Dept and JT.

All that is missing from DT's photo in his white uniform looking like Eagles Gov was a WC guernsey.

His  very slightly overweight physique plus his highlights reel marking and interception plus quick movement if the ball all looked so Guv I reckon we have a real salt of the earth defender in the making.

Maybe  the boys can nickname Daniel "Gov" in honour!

Also the very positive  reviews  from a local or two  and DD reflect his character and ability plus potential for his age to date.

Another potential future rising star ( with an asterisk)

JT and FD looks as though they have nailed another gem.

Haha, we were all saying this at the time.

The cost should be similar to Hibberd, Melk, Langdon...as you say a 2nd rounder, or commensurate trade.

They always paid overs...and for 2 of them.

Spot on.

Just on this again. Carlton really did [censored] the bed last off season and completely lost their nerve. They'd been building through the draft and filling holes with cheap ex high draft pick Giants and had built arguably the best spine in the league, all essentially 25 and under.

They then had a star in Cripps in the middle and a rising young superstar in Walsh joining him, but they had little else besides an aging Ed Curnow to assist them. They desperately needed to go after genuine A grade or at the very least B+ grade mids from other clubs and/or go to the draft again to find them.

Instead, they decided to throw multiple first rounders away for two half backs. Mind bogglingly stupid and may well have undermined their rebuild. It has certainly put them back at least a year. And they also paid through the tooth for a very average Jack Martin.

Incredible stuff. The sort of list management that keeps a team mired in mid table mediocrity. And I love that Carlton continue to fumble about in the dark. Long may it continue. Pity Essendon can't join them.

McGovern surely should be nominated  for the inaugural Hayden Ballantyne Medal. Must be one of the most unsociable footballers going around. Any comeuppance coming this flat track bully’s way is welcome. That winning goal Tommy McDonald kicked on the road late 2018 with McGovern trying to tackle him down in the goal square  over there was poetry in motion.

Obviously has admirers on this thread and elsewhere All Australian? But nearly gagged when his physique is described as ‘chesty’. Would give Nik Nat a run at Weight Watchers. He is just a Big Mac feeding frenzy away from a Michelin rating.

Perhaps the young Clarry comparison is more apt for young Dan. A transformation from country boy carrying some ? love to an athletic footballer awaits?

Not to stick up for Carlton but Williams was a free agent and it was only 1 first round pick for Saad

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
