Re: Three things you've learned. Round eleven 2021 v Melb

1. Hard to tell on the TV but Melbourne blocked our space extremely well and we weren’t good enough to work through them. Normally our fast, slick handball allows to be able to create gaps in the opposition’s defence. There was very little of that tonight. Instead we tried to switch the play. Again we didn’t execute this too well with some poor turnovers.

2. All hope is not lost. As BAD mentioned we only lost the last 3qtrs by 1 point. A few tweaks here and there and the addition of a few players - Dunks, Treloar, Martin, Wood and Vandermeer - we should be able to reverse this result come finals. The other plus is that our team had an off night - now is that a case of not turning up or Melbourne’s pressure exploiting some chinks in our game - time will tell.

3. We rate our mids but geez the Dees mids really outplayed us. That Clayton Oliver can play - he is everything I want Pat Lipinski to be - same height, weight and body type.

Haha is that all he wants Lipinski to be. Wants one of the softest wingers to become Oliver. No worries. A preseason should do it.

Not too keen on Dogs supporters. The first time I took my son was to Dogs vs Demons match. We were near our Cheer Squad and some Dogs supporters started to become difficult. There were words exchanged and a Dogs supporter threw a drink all over a Demons supporter. I stepped in and asked him to leave because there were kids watching and it was a Demons supporters area. He jumped over my friend and king hit the Demons supporter in the head. We then restrained him until the useless security at Marvel arrived.

No. Not keen on Dogs supporters generally.

No it was as comprehensive as it comes. You almost felt Melbourne knew they could break it open with insane pressure then backed their defence to absorb what we had after that. The played in phases and read the game situation brilliantly it was very impressive.

They’ve got the structure to go all the way, my doubts were off about them.

The 3 headed monster is going to be hard for Melbourne to defend. Lever and May defend as a pair, and that is not going to work against a 3 pronged forward line.

The three headed monster? Bruce, Naughton and English? Lol. This is actually pretty funny. Monster... wow.

It may have been posted already but the Doggies supporter site referenced, (as opposed to "sight"), is https://www.woof.net.au/

Always interesting to read a mix of objective and biased comments on the oppositions assessment of their own team and us.

Once the dust has settled, these sites are an informative read.

Just like I wanted Cale Morton to be Dusty Martin. So close.

Both BAMF and QF are wrong !

Yes 3 headed monster ie Naughton English and Bruce still had reasonable goals out if their total and not one starred due to our pressure  and individual brilliance of May Lever and don't forget Petty BUT  don't underestimate their potential if more and better ball comes into the forward line.

QB You are not including Petty's ability to contribute to our defence. Yes Lever must still go for his intercepts as should May and Petty.

Last  night Rivers held sway  and Hibberd  and Salem were serviceable and supportive without starring.

Uts a team effort and the Dogs defence was very ordinary when we bought the Heat into the kitchen.

Weid and Kossie had almost nights ANB Tmac and Fritta were excellent. On ballers got us 4 goals.So agsin our mix of all things forwards  worked hard and well to support the defence and mids.

Schubert: nuggety, short, round, rover type. Talented with the ball, good on either side of the body. Poetry in motion but never took care of his body due to too much alcohol consumption in season. Little known fact, he wrote every clubs' song.
Hayden: prolific scorer.
Beethoven: stingy defender. Holds record amongst "classical" era composers for total weeks suspended. Reinvented the way the game is played. Could have been a great coach but would never listen to his assistants.

I thought Beethoven was famous for his last movement, moving Coventry to full back.

I prefer Percy Grainger - a very gifted but fragile forward who was always composed.  A fan favorite but not popular in the sheds as he was considered a mummys boy.

Neither Josh nor Corey Wagner were classic or as composed as I'd hoped and they didn't score enough.

Unfortunately they had the full support of the club president who turned out to be very unpopular.

You get good and bad fans. I was surprised after they won in 2016, how many people in the FootscrayNotWesternBulldogs forums were saying how much they’d love to see us and St Kilda win one next:

Spot on Elsternwick Pierre- everyone's 2nd team it is like the saying -

"With all due respect to...."

Well no need for that anymore, personally I would like the 2017 Grand Final to be - Melbourne v St Kilda and who ever loses that Grand Final, to bounce back in 2018 and win it.

Then again 4 in a row would be alright to, but i am not greedy. Once Melbourne and St Kilda have both won it, then its back to "every man for himself" “

I still reckon there was some talent Haydn in there somewhere.

When your coach, the one who orchestrates every movement, is called Simon Woodwind, these sort of puns are inevitable.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
