"Mr Merlino said there were no changes for the rules on sport crowds, major events, bars or restaurants."

he actually said the public events section of health were reviewing the rules but no announcement this morning.

I also assume that with roof closed Marvel is considered indoors.

My guess is 50%.. perhaps 65% at best

This virus won’t go away. Make us wear masks FFS. I’d even wear full PPE.

Thats a really good point DJ.

The roof that is never open needs to open. It was built to open and in this case its public safety at stake. It should be law that it is open.

AHHHHH FFS ?

This can't be happening again, why is it always our games that are affected?

Ummm with all due respect this is completely wrong.   Other clubs have been affected well before us

I would assume that there will be a reduction across all games in Victoria this week and if the outbreak gets out of hand perhaps even the outdoor games might have no crowds either.

The blockbuster between St. Kilda and North is being played at Marvel on Saturday afternoon will likely be affected too.

Someone rang SEN this morning to say there is a problem with it and a strong chance it won't be open again.

public gatherings have been capped at 30 people.  masks required indoors

I reckon we have no chance of seeing this game live

15 months on Covid is still an absolute [censored] of a thing

50% capacity is my tip. Just a guess.

Crowd would only be 35K tops if 100% capacity. Marvel crowds have been woeful this year.

If the prior games this year that were COVID impacted are any indication I think it is more likely to be no crowds than less crowds this weekend.

To be fair that only happened in WA and we know they are panic merchants.

As much as I want to go to this game, I want to avoid lockdowns more. A wide long lasting lockdown would impact the season far more than one game with no crowds.

Was literally about to say is there any chance that I dunno, the retractable roof they have on that stadium could be like, open? Possibly? :p

A car load of us were coming down for the game, and I was all set to purchase tickets today. Due to some logistics, we had to make a decision today so we pulled the pin. Really peeved. I was really hungry to see these 2 go head to head live.

Our delayed game vs essendon last year forced a cluttered fixture for us . One less game in cairns would have been helpful

I don’t think we will get into the long lasting lockdown situation again. Snap lockdowns are more likely and I think we will have one by end of the week I’m afraid. But I’m just an armchair expert so take it with a grain of salt :)

I doubt we'll be the only team affected by this outbreak. They can always move our game to the MCG on Friday night (if worried about the closed roof being an indoor venue) rather than force us into a compacted fixture situation later in the year.

Apparently 4 more positives already today. Crowds look very unlikely. I'll be thankful if we don't go to lockdown!

They should make tickets available for people who have been vaccinated.

And only for people who have been vaccinated.

How do you prove that binman?

AFL just announced sale of tickets delayed until further notiuced.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
