Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Majak and M.Brown superb putting pressure on the senior players.

I would have Mitch Brown in the team instead of Melksham any day of the week! In fact Weeds would want to fire as well! I think Mitch Brown is a very clever and underated player!. Could have had 6 or 7 by the sound of it!

What a pleasant surprise it was to rock up to the ground and flash my membership card and walk in for nothing. None of that tickitek nonsense. Onto the game, it was very messy football. Tackling was good on both sides . Of the demon players I thaught Sparrow and Brown were the best, Daw took some incredible marks in the forward line and it was a more intelligent game by him that I have seen in a while. Jetta did a lot of good things with the ball although he did not get a lot of it. Lockhart was okay as was rosman. In the end it was Brown that carried us over the line but that was only in the second half. Like the senior side they seem to have a knowledge of how to win.

If you wouldn't mind investing in some of these from Chemist Warehouse before Casey's next game HB, that'd be great. ?

We’ve got forwards by the bucketload at the moment: M Brown is capable of doing a job at AFL level if required

Amazing isn’t it.  Last year it felt like we had no key forwards at all who could impact the game, now it seems we have 5 or 6 who are in ripping form

CATNIPPED by KC from Casey

After winning big away from home across the first three rounds of the new look VFL competition, the Casey Demons were forced to dig deep against Geelong VFL at Casey Fields on Saturday.

The traditional AFL based teams were evenly matched, fielding ten listed players apiece and this was reflected in the evenness of the game and the final margin which saw the home side leading by a solitary point on the final siren.

Casey suffered an early blow when Jake Bowey came off with what appeared to be a serious ankle injury. Bowey appeared later in a moonboot and with crutches.

The Demons were wasteful early with the breeze behind their backs with Mitch Lewis’ goal at the 21 minute mark, their only major score in the first half. The Cats took control in a second term in which the defences held sway and scoring was difficult. Geelong’s half time lead of ten points was pushed up to a game high 15 when Darcy Fort put one between the big sticks five minutes into the second half.

Enter the Demons’ almost forgotten key forward Mitch Brown who hadn’t been since since he played in the AFL team’s win over Hawthorn a few weeks back. In the space of a few minutes he booted two goals two behinds, almost single-handedly wiping off the deficit although he left it to fellow tall, Majak Daw, to score the goal to put the team back in the lead. The Cats fought back with the next two goals before Toby Bedford responded to level the scores. At the final break, it was the Cats by a point.

In an exciting final term, Casey again showed their mettle with Brown proving to be the match winner. With both teams struggling to find the goals the Demons were doing most of the scoring but, against the run of play, the Cats scored the first major of the final term. Two strong marks and two more goals to Brown provided the ray of hope needed for the team to nudge ahead by eight points well into time on but the game wasn’t over yet. A couple of bad errors resulted in two technical free kicks for crowding at defensive throw ins and Rhys Stanley managed to goal with the second. The Demons were forced to endure a tense minute or so before the final siren ended a close and exciting game. They remain undefeated and on top of the 22-team ladder.

Apart from Brown, Daw was also a dominant player whether on the ball or up forward while Aaron Bradtke proved a useful foil as his lieutenant in the ruck. Experienced defenders Neville Jetta and Jay Lockhart were steady as a rock all day, the latter receiving a bad knock in the painful area of the body that recently caused him to miss a couple of games. Tom Sparrow was the best of the midfielders, amassing 24 disposals and 5 tackles. As usual, James Munro was important with several pressure acts including eight tackles.

The Demons return to Casey Fields on Sunday to play their game against the Sydney Swans which was postponed from a fortnight ago.

How many listed players did Geelong have?

Good morning Bob,

As you can see from my article posted above, Geelong and Melbourne both had ten of their listed players in their respective VFL teams on Saturday. Below are the players and number of games played in the AFL:-

Casey Demons

Toby Bedford (2)

Jake Bowey (0)

Aaron Bradtke (0)

Mitch Brown (76)

Majak Daw (54)

Neville Jetta (158)

Jay Lockhart (22)

Fraser Rosman (0)

Deakyn Smith (0)

Tom Sparrow (12)

Geelong VFL

Oscar Brownless (0)

Charlie Constable (12)

Sam De Koning (1)

Darcy Fort (8)

Max Holmes (1)

Ben Jarvis (1)

Josh Jenkins (149)

Stefan Okunbor (0)

Rhys Stanley (144)

Nick Stevens (0)

As you can see, both had roughly the same total number of AFL games behind them. Of course, Casey were at a little disadvantage because they lost Jake Bowey early in the piece.

BTW, Barry (formerly of Beach Road, Sandringham) says hello from the Gold Coast.

Posted by Adam Tomlinson this morning. Bowey sans moonboot lifting heavy weights. Is this a photo from today? Would he be lifting such heavy weights after a serious ankle injury. Is this an old picture posted in solidarity for and by a fellow injured player?

Many thanks KC.  Is Barry up on the GC permanently now? His reports from Sandy were second to none, you excepted of course.

Yes Bob. He’s very much entrenched up on the Coast and expected to make a comeback to reporting on Demonland when Casey comes up here later in the year to play Gold Coast.

I see on the MFC website they have video of all the VFL goals and what sounds like a full-on commentary of the entire match.  Did anyone find out if that was being streamed? Who made it? If not streamed, why not? What equipment is missing to stream it? etc?

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
