Congratulations on the book.

Getting the Mike Sheahan to do the foreword is a really feather in the cap!!!

Anything that Supermercado writes is worth a read. After his debut book, I’m certain this will make it to the top book sellers list if not a Nobel Prize for Literature. All Demon fans should buy this - you can order your copy here - THE LAST HURRAH

By “top book sellers list” you do mean New York Times Bestseller List, right? ?

I just pre-ordered my copy ❤️?

Wonder how much he had to cut out for brevity. Even Supermercado's blog posts are war and peace.

I still have the Great Deepression on my shelf ready to read after that marvellous Premiership I hear all the other teams' supporters talking about.

I couldn't bear revisiting it until we've definitively put it all behind us however.

Thanks for the heads up - just purchased a copy. Hoping that by October this year it has to be retitled "The 2nd Last Hurruh"

Big ups to Supermercado. Love that Mike Sheahan has contributed a foreword.

Uncanny timing. As I was overseas at the time, Adam sent a Great Deepression to my mother's shoebox in Cairns in maybe late 2016, the misery-tome taking up a third of her available living space. She recently signed up to the Marie Kondo cult and has been putting the hard word on me about the book over the past couple months.

Next week, I go to Cairns for the first time since it arrived, and looked forward to a) relieving my poor mother's newly-provoked clutter-stress, and b) catching up on my MFC reading. Now I'm probably an extra 800 pages behind, and will have to get The Last Hurrah sent to my mum's tiny apartment because I'm generally a [censored] nomadic son.

Congrats, Adam! I’m still making my way through the Great Deepression but have just pre-ordered this on Amazon ?

Ordered. Hope it won't be too depressing.

I can spot seven players- Ron Barassi, John Townsend, John Lord, Brian Dixon, Frank Adams, Hassa Mann, Barry Bourke.

Possibly Frank Davis back row, centre.

Thank you @Whispering_Jack and all, also to Slattery Publishing/Hardie Grant for giving me the chance to turn pro. If you'd like to contribute to Jeff Bezos' next divorce settlement you can also pre-order at Amazon.

And yes, I am very much hoping that by the end of September the title is rendered irrelevant. Should come with a free texta so you can alter it in the event of another flag.

Hello all, apologies for dragging this thread up for another plug, but the book is scheduled to be in bookstores tomorrow. Make a scene if yours doesn't carry it. I spoke to Radio TAB about it this morning. Fortunately they didn't ask for my views on the Globe Derby quaddie.

My wife picked up a copy for me from Puckle St bookstore in Moonee Ponds today. Looking forward to reading, looks really well put together, congrats @Supermercado

copy has arrived. Looks good.

In the photo above I’ve got most of them, but who is the Whately lookalike next to Hassa in the front row, and the bearded one 2nd from left at back?

Is it Ken Emselle in the front?

We had the first two three-peats in VFL/AFL history! This is a pic from The Last Hurrah. I love the three wiggling fingers.

Edit: I know Collingwood won four in a row but that doesn’t count because that’s four and not three, and because they’re Collingwood

I forgot about Collingwood, which is easily done.

Their "4-peat" was in an era where you could win a flag by your captain challenging and defeating the opposition captain in a mule wrestling contest.

If not for them we could boast a six-peat. ?

They competed for a cup, not a flag.

Carlton also 3-peated in 1906-08

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
