I find it hard to believe that we're on our best run since the 60's, we've got news-thirsty fans with some I assume willing to put their money with their mouths are and the official website is good for around 3 articles a week and zero intel or insight.

Not having the budget and or COVID isn't an excuse as this is a genuine investment which will garner returns.

I was told there would be Kate Roffey interview up this week and it's been a no show. Anyone else feeling the same?

So, firstly, looking at the website there's been 13 articles in the past week. That doesn't include some of the video content (All the goals, Footy Show interviews, pre/post match content, highlights etc) "The Talking Points", "Gus & Gawny" and more.

Secondly, the website is more of a hosting service than a delivery point. Have a look through the MFC socials, there's multiple posts per day, every day. Websites aren't the main point of call anymore, social is.

Thirdly, of course lower budgets & less staff is an excuse (see: reason). There's literally less people and less money to do the same amount of work (or more). Be realistic about it at least, every business is adjusting to that in the current climate.

Personally, as someone who works in marketing in a very digital-centric environment, I think MFC have made MASSIVE improvements year on year over the last 4-5 years. This seems a, not only inaccurate, but overly harsh assessment IMO.

Did Goodwin do a weekly press conference this week? This should be on the website.

Here you go:

Some of the potting of the clubs media is a bit ridiculous.

They bring out the 'back from hell' video and people complain that they shouldn't have.

Go back to normal media and people complain it isn't enough....

I think the stuff they are doing is great.... although I'm concerned there hasn't been a Gus & Gawny podcast this week

I am really looking forward to Casey playing NM.  When is that scheduled?

Don't be a dill pickle trouble maker, check the website.

I was looking at the website player section and noticed that Majak Daw has not yet had a photo added to his bio.
Was going to raise this but wasn’t sure where.  Maybe this thread.

I'd rather they focus on playing football and footy programs for the kids. Everything else is fugazi.

Can someone show me on the club website where the stats are?   They used to be easy to find a few years ago, now I am not even sure they are on there at all.   Lucky there are plenty of way better sites for stats but how how insane is it that something like that wouldn't be on there,.

Unfortunately all clubs are forced to use the horrendous Telstra afl.com layout.  They should be able to run their own independent sites with their own design.

Ah crikey now there is a rumour on Demonland (full of agent provocateurs, fifth columnists and fellow travellers) that the game Casey vs NM was played last night and we won by 15+goals.  This is impossible as the side hasn't offically been published yet on the website.

I think I have over done it on the Robbie Flower Commerative Port as BT is making sense....ah [censored] the cats knocked over my sherry...

Think they said at the end of their last show that they would be fortnightly, not weekly.  Another hot social media tips from Tommy Bugg again I think.

That is the fundamental problem.

All the clubs have to use the same layout, because of the contracts entered into by the AFL.  I was told years ago, that Telstra determines what changes can be made to each site...e.g. only so many articles each week, any more and you have to pay them more.

With 18 clubs putting in their requests, getting something up in a timely manner is problematic, as it depends on how many bodies Telstra supplies to do the jobs. So each club has to measure the worth of what they are trying to put on the site.  Do we change a picture of a player, or save up our allocation for a more valuable article?

Hopefully back next week. Must watch/listen.

I think Lever mentioned during the Casey game that the players were given a few days off this week so not sure if that is a factor.

On the last podcast G & G stated they were having a 1 week break. So expect them back this coming week.

As a regular G&G listener this is correct, and explicitly brought up on the podcast. This was a club-mandated week-long break, but they'll be back, celebrating their top of the ladder status I'm sure.

Didn’t they run their page in conjunction with, and accessible via, the Chemist Warehouse site?

don't know ht, never been there.......very finnicky about contamination

They were the only club who initially didn't sign up to the AFL/Telstra deal.

But now  looking at their website

https://www.essendonfc.com.au/...(I know I should get a warning for this)

...it is exactly the same format as the other clubs, indicating they have also signed up with the evil side.....

Pity in a way, because when they ran their own show, it was light-years ahead in terms of presentation and accessibility.  It had first rate graphics and they could put up what they liked, when they liked.  But it probably cost a lot to run, and after the supplements saga, the money probably ran dry....including from sponsors who would have been willing to support it...

My poor attempt at humour falls flat yet again... do they even deal in peptides at Chemist Warehouse?

Not strictly related to the website but club merch is bloody ordinary.

I haven't looked at club merch in years and thought I could tip some cash in with a purchase, surely there is plenty more in the same boat

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG to face the Tigers in their annual Blockbuster on ANZAC Eve for the 10th time. The Dees will be desperate to reignite their stuttering 2025 campaign and claim just their second win of the season. Can the Demons dig deep and find that ANZAC Spirit to snatch back to back wins?

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
