If it goes ahead they should turn it into a double header.

Come on mate, enough of the Tasmanian jokes.  You'll upset Nasher and Clintosaurus et al.

Hobart forecast for Sunday  -  22 degrees , partly cloudy.

Could be great conditions for us to pile on 25+ goals.

You do realise we’ve never beaten them there, right?

Can't see Gutwein winning the election either. When your own speaker crosses the floor multiple times against you, it's game over. He's one of the more progressive Libs going around, more like a small L lib like Menzies than anything post 1970. I'll be surprised if the game goes ahead in Tassie, the optics are terrible.

I don't know if you know given you're a Hobart local, but any idea why they play at Belrieve and not North Hobart Oval? Much better ground for viewing AFL from what I'm led to believe.

North Hobart isnt a full sized ground. The 50m line is actually 40m and nearly overlaps the centre square.

Melbourne played Collingwood there in a preseason game in 01 or 02 and Mick Malthouse complained re: size of ground.

There is a very proud Lawn Bowl club right behind the ground that would need to make way for major changes to take place but the Lawn Bowl club has a huge history and wont be going anywhere.

Too small both in ground size and crowd capacity. Bellerive is where the state gov’t elected to spend all their money on upgrades on, so it’s the one with all the big, modern facilities.

North Hobart looks exactly the same as it did when I was a kid watching footy there in the 90s. Great memories having a kick on the ground at half time.  I’d love to watch the MFC play there more than anything, but it’s not going to happen.

Beat me to it Nasher.

I loved going there as a kid but it hasnt been any redevelopment in years.

Yep. We were massive North Hobart fans - it’s how I became a Melbourne fan in fact. Was present for the back to back flags in 91 and 92. Awesome times. Feel a bit sad going past the place these days. Hate going to Bellerive, home of the mortal enemy.

Mick Malthouse complaining. What a surprise!

I'm guessing the game is going ahead in Hobart then.

I suspect so.

The Tas Govt is reportedly due to review its restrictions on WA today/tomorrow and they will take effect from midnight Wednesday

Last year there were very good reasons why AFL couldn't be played in Tassie.  But not this time.

If the Tassie gov't chooses to lock the Roos out, they should still pay the Roos the money.  Its not the Roos fault if their premier can't assess risk.

It's all about the Premier's ability to assess risk. With the election on Saturday, the Tassie Premier has to decide which risk is greatest. Will he get more votes from stopping North from coming to Hobart or for letting the game proceed? When he's worked that out, we'll get our answer.

I think it is more advantageous in terms of the election to say no and North move a game later in the season here. The closed border has been very popular and making an exemption for a game of footy will not be as popular.

I wasn't referring to political risk.  My point was about payment of the match fee.

If they lock them North out they should still pay them the money, whatever the reason.

Logic dictates that no decision has been made yet based on that.

Selfishly I want the game to be relocated to Marvel so I can go. You convicts are on your own. ?

I'm surprised Jon Ralph is confident the game will be in Hobart according to those he's spoken to at North Melb.

I would've thought the obvious decision would be to move the game to Marvel given Tasmania's hard stance on their borders - not withstanding the fact that there's more of a chance of catching the Spanish flu down there than North spreading COVID.

So now you're telling us the Spanish Flu is doing the rounds as well? Quick, shut the gate!

We are still allowed to call it the Spanish flu?

Thats weird as I thought calling covid19 the 'China Virus' was outlawed.    ?

Yeah it definitely was Tuesday originally, and I stupidly spent 15mins trying to buy a ticket at 11am this morning, until it clicked??. And I just ran into Big Maxxy at 7/11 Frankston, and asked if he knew where the game is going to be played, and he said whilst they don't officially know yet, he sounded pretty confident that the game will go ahead in Hobart.

    HIGHLIGHTS/LOWLIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne traveled across the continent to take on the Fremantle Dockers in sweltering conditions at Mandurah south of Perth in a game that delivered the club both its highlight and its lowlight in the first minute.  But first, let’s start by doing away with the usual cliches used in connection with the game. It was just a practice match and the result didn’t matter. Bad kicking is bad football. The game was played in severe heat, the swirly breeze played havoc with both teams resulting in

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
