Yeah, just a little...   ?

"If we bring our pressure and intensity like we did against the saints they are no chance. Let's be honest guys when we are on and hunting no team in history can be beat us let alone the comp. That's why we have won 3 flags out of 4 . Because our best is by far and away the best in the comp and of all time"

It's crazy. God I hope they beat us, there heads will explode and then ill sit back and watch when they lose a final. No supporter group drinks the coolaid like melbourne supporters

win 3 out of 4 flags you've earnt the right to be a little cocky

there is nothing to suggest we will do more than compete with them for 3 quarters.

Probably think they have the points in the bank.

Let them worry about Trac, Langdon and Oliver.

It means Gawn, Lever and Kozzie run riot?

How I would love to take these [censored] apart. Piece by piece

Anybody here remember The Grog Squad at the Punt Road end in the 70’s?

Blow it up - hand it to every MFC player now and let them think about how they are going to shove it down their throats this weekend

They didn't look much chop round 1 against Carlton
They beat Hawthorn by 29 points in round 2 - whoopee
They lost to the swans round 3 - whoops
They lost to PA by 2 points round 4 - decent effort that one
Smashed the saints who I regard as being massively over rated

They are no better than WC, WB , PA in my opinion any of those three can beat Richmond on their day

If MFC are serious we need to be added to that list

If we’d won 3/4 I would still be grateful for every win and not be cocky because it could all go south quickly

It’s up to us to prove them wrong

My Aunty - a mad tigers supporter like all mums side of the family - though, is desperate for the Dees to win this flag. She has this weird Goodwin fixation which is a little worriesome TBH

Mum is up from Melb this weekend and she will be insufferable - she’s one of those for Whom these wins have gone to their heads (and she’s never been into the footy!)

"They're actually looking really good, and some of the areas they excel are areas we aren't so strong at.
Gawn will dominate against us, especially if we only play Nankervis. He will need additional support and even then, Gawn is likely to be the best big man on the ground. So they excel in our ruck weakness.

Also without Prestia, their midfield has the potential to smash us inside. Petracca, Oliver, Viney, Jones will be very formidable inside and doing the grunt work. We probably have them on the spread if it gets out, but there's every chance they dominate the clearances so I think their strength there is challenging to one of our weaknesses without the Meatball to help. To mitigate this, one of RCD or Ross has to come into the 22. I think we are going to need that extra player in the mid rotations and hope they are ready to have an impact.

The areas I think we are on top, is that I think our forward line stacks up well, particularly if May misses again. I rate the firepower of Lynch, Riewoldt, Martin plus our rotational smalls compared to their team. Ben Brown could be a danger if he plays, but he could also be coming in for his first game and not have a big influence or synergy yet. I also think our back 6 has the edge, and just need our mids to break even. The danger is if the mids are smashed the back 6 will be under siege and missing Vlastuin still will hurt.

A lot of our forward strategy depends on if May plays. If he doesn't then Jack and Lynch need to play as far away from each other as possible to isolate the other against the lesser KPD, and force Lever to choose one or the other rather than sitting loose and zoning to cover both of them.

We know that in the first 10 or so rounds, Richmond are more of a grind and get results rather than playing our best football. I feel the Demons are on a higher level than that at this point of the season, and so wouldn't be surprised if they get up. The final thing in our favour though is that Richmond do generally turn up in the big games, and while the Demons will not lack motivation, in front of a big crowd (unsure of the capacity limits?) on the big stage Richmond have to have more trust in them.

It's a genuine 50/50 game for mine. IMO we need to split the Demons/Dogs 1-1. It would be a big ask to win both on current form of all 3 sides, but we can't afford to lose both either.

I think this is a better match up for us, and tipping the Tigers to shake some of the early season cobwebs and flex a bit of muscle to win a great contest by 8 points."

This is the correct mindset for the Tigers game.

I love our new found full court press, but I won't be sold until we can beat the likes of the Tigers playing at their manic best.

They been bloody awe inspiring over the past 4 years while playing with an intensity that Melbourne sides over 6 decades can only wet dream about.

Can’t be a Tigers fan. It’s too articulate, is without spellos and well argued.

Yeah and then got wiped off the park by the Crows in round 6 - something for Melbourne supporters to keep in mind if things go against us on the weekend

Just remind them on Saturday last year doesn't count, it was a Mickey Mouse comp and the GF wasn't even played in Victoria! Our AFLX trophy has more significance than their 2020 flag

Pretty fair, no mention of being tired, cocky or slowing down, but in between the lines those are  the X factors in my book. Those traits in my op are there, just a little bit visible at the moment, and are bubbling underneath, not unlike what was said about us for many years after our "silver age"

What the heck i think we actually can afford to lose this game. No pressure on us, we lose, we learn, feet on ground stuff, we win, the doubt starts creeping in minds, much much more than the legs and the arms feeling as though, i've done enough.

We were told in the late sixties and seventies, that our problem was everything had been being left to the few, well Dusty that's history repeating itself, except your the bunny...

Most fan forums are like this. There are the three or four posters who are completely hyperbolic or unjustifiably arrogant. And there are plenty who are reasoned, eloquent and quite amiable.
Excellent analysis too.

Most of the big footy post is inarticulate garbage.  One or two thoughtful additions.  To sum up- they certainly have bragging rights, but are a cocky bunch of tossers.  Best ever?
Win and we will be taken seriously.  Lose and it is the ‘how’ we lose that will matter.  We are starting something and there may be a few bumps.  The maturity and style of play needs to be on show, regardless of result.  Still think that we will win, but probably the toughest test we face to date.

Will be a cracking game. I hate the arrogance - but they deserve it. I wonder what that must feel like :)

It's the passive arrogance that annoys me the most.

Had a Richmond supporting friend ask me earlier today whether I'd be surprised if we could get within 50.  To him, a win is a given. All that's in question is the margin.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
