That was the worst game of the year and the best win. I finally believe that we are serious contenders. Not because we played particularly well, but because we found a way to win and when we got on top we really put the foot down.
The mark of a good team. Finally.

100%

Good teams find a way.

Special teams destroy when they get a whiff.

He plays next week

We've killed former Captains numerous times over last 2 decades

The team is obviously happy to take Jonesy to 300 so let's all embrace it!!

I appreciate your loyalty as you obviously appreciate Chunks.

If he plays poorly and we lose will it have been worth it.

Cant we wait until the game after that is all Im saying?

Even though Jackson isn’t tearing games apart he is holding his own in the ruck and getting plenty of ball. He is allowing Max to drift forward and back and is a big factor in Max having a stellar season.

We need to remember that he is only a second year player. I can’t think of a second year ruck playing like Jackson, ever!

and Hibberd all game,

Great addition to our backline today.

Stepped back in with his old best form. Made a difference considering May is out. Great call by the club.

Yep Rivers did very well too.

Without jake levers first half heroics we would have been well behind at half time. Big improvement needed next we to even be competitive.

Like you Jaded I believe we are really on the the cusp of being great. I am an oldie who watched the champion Melbourne teams of the 50s. What we saw today in the last quarter was exactly what those champion teams did almost every week. Ground them into the turf. And when did we have a percentage like we have today?  Max Gawn? It's impossible to find words to describe this Hercules. What a champion and inspiration to the team..

He is absolutely not the difference between us winning or losing that game. You have an extremely short memory if you don’t think our heart & soul ex Captain doesn’t deserve this game. He was the one reason that I went to the football at times. He deserves this honour ?❤️?❤️

We have won 4 in a row against Hawthorn. How the tables have turned.

Now how do we fit Tom Mac, Weideman, Ben Brown, Mitch Brown, Jackson and Fritsch in the forward line?   ;)

We play TMac one the wing, B Brown at FF, Weid at CHF, Jackson second ruck, Fritsch HFF. Best forward half / on ball brigade l can remember in my 50 Years following the Dees.

First 3 quarters we worked hard, but again our forward half field kicking and kicking for goal was appalling. Gut-wrenching, foul-language-producing, face-palming kicking that is killing me!

And then, we started hitting targets and kicking goals from everywhere. Not sure what the trigger was, or where the change came from, but very glad it did.

Another great team effort with great team footy to watch. Gawn, Langdon, Lever, Hibbo, Kozzie,. The best thing is we win significant moments.

Love being 5-0.

It might have taken us 3 quarters to start kicking goals, but the game turned after quarter time when we tightened up defensively. They kicked half their score in the first quarter, and except for the McEvoy bonus free > goal, only managed one goal a quarter after that.

Flat and listless for much of the first. No rhythm, no tempo. We allowed the Hawks to drag us down to their level.

Our class and quality told in the end but we’ll get belted next week playing like we did in the first 3 quarters. Too many passengers. I get the emotion but I don’t know if we can carry Jones next week.

Lever and Maxy immense. TMac lifted when we really needed him to. Salem Hibbo Langdon and Kozzie were good. Nice cameo from M Brown but he's replaced next week by either BB or Weid.

Petty found his feet after a shaky first half. He’ll be better for the run. He plays next week.

I’m apprehensive about the Richmond game. May a huge loss down back.

Our conversion simply has to improve. Stoppage work not that good today. Forward pressure was off. Need to work on that this week as Spargs, Nibbler and Kozzie gotta bring the heat next week. Too much spoiling our own marks as well.

Plenty to review on Monday and work on during the week.

We’ll bank the 4 points and move on. Big big test next week.

Go Dees.

You are clearly missing the point

Heart, Symbolism, Momentum,  all mean something

We haven't lost a game this year with Jonesy playing...?‍♂️

This is a massively important day for the club, and we're  5-0 having worked towards it...

Why get smart and try to change anything! Embrace it and get out there and give it 110%

Really don’t think our wingmen need replacing.

T Mac to the wing and Gus replaces Jordon in the midfield rotation.

This reminded me of a game we played against Hawthorn at the end of 2010.

I remember at the time that despite Hawthorn looking much more impressive when they had ball in hand, and that our young blokes not being able to stick a tackle on them, we seemed to be giving them a run for their money. We hung in, and hung in, while blokes like Hodgey, Burgoyne, Mitchell, Jordie, Buddy and Roughy (my gawd they were spoilt weren't they?) were hassled by weedy kids like Trenners, Scully, Gysberts and Cale Morton while flaky vets like Beamer and Col lent a hand.

By the end, their bigger bodies and nous got them the three goals they needed to get them over the line. It was always the way it was going to be sadly, as our fellas were too callow to challenge a Hawks team destined for bigger and better things.

I am not saying we are comparable to what that Hawthorn team would become, but the script was flipped today. Their younger bodies were up for the fight today, and they pushed, harassed and took the chance they got. They did bloody well for 3 quarters too.

Unfortunately, I saw that when they did apply frontal pressure, our blokes 8 times out of 10 stood up in the tackle and got the ball away. It was always going to come down to a battle of stamina, and we saw how we ran away in the last quarter. They'd used up their petrol tickets, and it was a matter of how much.

Lever was a colossus today. His intercepting, spoiling and reading of the play played a big part in 'rope-a-doping' them (though it wasn't our intention of playing that way in any way!). By the time we got to the last quarter, the amount of energy they had expended getting the ball in there left them vulnerable to us. You could say the same for Max.

I'd also add that Melk showed why he is in the team. Some of his vision was top notch. We had forgotten how much of a vital cog he is in our team as he can pick blokes out where few can spot them.

I am still keeping the lid on. Next week, we go in underdogs, and I like that. BBB coming back in is something I like the sounds of.

Enjoy the win, kiddies.

So your argument he has some kind of Mascot and lucky charm about him.

Saying its important is not an argument.. .Its because its important at 5 zip.. I put it out there.

The point I was making which I think you actually overlooked is quite simple..

IS he our best 22?

Yea sure he has heart. Symbolism..lost me there.

I just want us to be 6 zero thats the symbolism i want.

On his current form I dont think he has been in the best 22 for a while.

Is it important for the big 300. YES.

Whats the rush is the point Mr Mullet?

I agree with most of this, I just don’t think we were flat and listless though. Our defensive structures were broken in the first quarter and better but with fumbles in the second. Probably not surprising when we lose both may and Jetta but it wasn’t just the back 6, we weren’t folding back quickly enough and they were able to link and kick without a lot of pressure.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
