FWIW I like the look of 20 year old Casey player Luca Goonan. Skilled, tough and strong as a bull. Worth keeping an eye on.

Pure poetry - and you guys down at the game have performed brilliantly on your mobile devices for all of us stuck in 'cannot get to the game' mode. Looking forward to the next match in an hour or so - Foxtel is working and it is already set up to record the game at the 'G.

Joel Smith knee injury. “Maybe a medial”. Poor fella can’t take a trick.

Smith done for day and a few weeks minimum

How is VDB going?

Just gave away 100 metre penalty. In and out of the game. Engine room player doing the grunt work around the ground.

Nek minnut, Brown crumbs off the ground, 360 spin and shot on goal! Only spoiled by being slightly offline.

In all seriousness, I think he has an awkward look at the best of time. He, Weid & Bedford all look ready imo.

Nek minnet after that does a fresh airy trying to handball the ball.

Hopefully he never plays another game in the seniors. Tough as nails and gives his all but is just not smart or disciplined.

Bit of Tom Hawkins there from Wiedeman just pushing his ruck opponent off and collecting the ball, then through for a goal.

Wied is an absolute lock for AFL next week.

Game seems to be petering out

Lots of boundary line play

Skill levels dropping off due to tiredness perhaps.

Hardly a breath of wind and the sun has disappeared

100-54

Another goal to the Hawks 106 to 60.

Coach asked for four quarter effort. He got three

Yes, 5 goals to 1 in the last quarter...

So Weideman is a lock for next week.
Makes the possible loss of Fritsch for another week less difficult.

OMG Toby Bedford moves well. AFL bound.

Great attack and aggression at the player and the ball. Suddenly we almost have an embarrassment of small forward riches. Chandler also good but not at same level today

I like the look of George Grey.

7 to the Weid.  Played well

nice judgment for that last mark

Weed = 7 as stay home forward. That translates as one more week for BB, and Weed promoted next week.

Very hard to line up VFL form but Weideman Bedford Daw all look good. And Jettas response to being dropped is what you want to see. Brown looks like he need another run.

And a big 51-point win for the Casey Demons first up.

Casey Demons 5.3.33  10.10.70 14.15.99 17.16 118

Box Hill Hawks 2.0.12 4.3.27 5.3.33 10.7.67

Goals

Casey Demons Weideman 7 Brown 3 Bedford Rosman 2 Chandler  Sparkes  Vandenberg

Box Hill Hawks Jeka Greene Mascitti 3 Brooksby

Best

Casey Demons Weideman Chandler Lockhart Bedford Vandenberg D Smith

Box Hill Hawks Newcombe Hartley Mascitti Maginness Porter

Off to Foxtel for the big game. Thanks again folks - proud to belong, so to speak - so many DL contributors keeping others nof able to sync with the game - doing such pleasing things. We were updated, informed, happy. This dual-team MFC/Casey association has immense benefits for our future hopes. Great effort.

Disagree on Daw, he looked like an average VFL player,

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

  • PREGAME: Sydney

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
