Has any player regressed more over the last couple of seasons than Josh Kelly? A shadow of his former self. Coniglio had a crack early but Kelly looked totally disinterested and has done for a while. I was a big fan of his and was hoping we might make a play for him but i'm starting to change my mind. Agree with you about this being a danger game. This is a final stand for them. Go 0-3 and its a long road to finals. I reckon they'll have a dip for a quarter or so but if we withstand the early storm we will win comfortably.

Should stay in the side and I think the club rates him as they have given him plenty of opportunities when he hasn't been injured. I was very impressed with Sparrow on Saturday night and that goal he kicked showed some fantastic composure and that he does belong at this level. He actually had a better game than Jordon IMO. I wouldn't be adverse to Melksham coming back this week for some crisp goal kicking but not at Sparrow's expense. if not this week, then he'll be in the side shortly after. 4

This is not only a chance for us to go 3-0 (good lord!) but to effectively put a pin in GWS's season early, it will be a big one for both clubs. GWS should be feeling it a bit in their legs as well, they started with a slog in the wet, travelled to Perth, come back to Sydney, and then fly to Canberra (short trip but still gotta go through the airport motions). Fatigue will come late, but if we set doubt in early mental fatigue will set in 9 hours ago, binman said: Totally pennant. I think a change for the dees, that actually started in 2019, is how hard we are to score against when on. When teams open us up it usually because our all team defence and two way running has dropped off. This year we have been really strong in this regard. The other change that has contributed to our defensive strength is how well our back half is going. And how well they are working collectively to maintain their fluid zone. This really started last year. And has been on show this year. I'm confident we win if we get these two elements right, particularly the all team defence and two way running. The all team aspect is psychological, not physical, so a failure to bring it would me a massive fail. And inexcusable. This is where the coaches responsibility stops and the players begin. The coaches will get the ready and do all the talks and yadda yards. But if they lose because they drop off defensively, even a tiny bit, it is 100% on the players. I love our defensive set up inside 50 at the moment with Sparrow, ANB Spargo and Kossie all creating defensive pressure as soon as the ball hits the deck. This creates pressure immediately and prevents teams moving the ball cleanly through transition which gives us opportunities to turn it over and set up behind the ball 5

Maybe, MAYBE Melk comes in for Jones with Nate being medical sub but really I say no change. The current team is gelling so well, everyone contributed. 5

I don't think he's been brilliant Lord, but he played a good 4th qtr last week when we needed it. Being quiet doesn't necessarily equate to being poor. He is being asked to play an outside role that probably doesn't suit him and there may also be defensive KPIs that he's meeting. That said, I'm really not sure what to do with him but I don't want Melksham to play another game, if possible.

Based on their 1’s, I’m guessing the quality of the 2’s were equivalent to ammos. Kicking 2 goals in this game isn’t good enough to displace anyone who played on Saturday night. 3

I guess it will come down to if the coaches are happy with him doing a minimal role or if they think they can make him the player he seemed like he could be a few years ago. 1
Travy14 2,142 Posted March 30, 2021 Posted March 30, 2021 Can't believe I'm going to say this, but no change. Hunt's brain fades drive me insane and put my TV in seriouse danger, but the fact he kept Butler too 8 disposals and had no influence forward of centre has to be rewarded. Melksham doesn't offer us anything we don't already have, purely a backup player. Except Goody loves him so will come in at some stage. 1

After his last few seasons he needs to bang the door down playing great footy in the 2's. I would not be even thinking about him until he is getting say 4-6 tackles a game, few goals and far greater urgency at every contest. He tends to coast and was one of the major reasons teams just waltzed out of our forward line with no pressure. If he is up and about and being ferocious at the contest he will add a lot to our team. Anything less that that and he becomes a liability. Big year for Jake, he owes us big! I hope he up for the challenge.

Melksham'swhole career has been that, good for a couple missing for a couple, il be happy if he is just a depth player from now on. Jake has been pretty solid for a while now, Tomlinson taking they key fwd and allowing Jake to take the third tall and work off him for intercept marks has helped alot. Looking forward to Ben Brown in this side, with the space and leading lanes opened up with this new game style I think he will be a key to deep success. 2
DeePressed 114 Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 I'm happy to be wrong about Hunt and Sparrow, they looked to take a significant step in their roles on Saturday. Consistency and continuity is key for them. The 3 positions up for grabs (over the next few rounds) are BP, Wing and Utility. Jetta, Brayshaw and Jones. My thoughts are give Brayshaw a few weeks as he is coming off a short pre season. But he still must perform (barely at moment). Jetta has been good but Lockhart will be knocking on the door soon. Jones won't play 22 games so it'll be form and managing him this year. He has been ok, but they will look to bring in Baker at some stage. Also once the key forwards come back expect TMac to play a higher role if not Wing so this may affect Brayshaw/Jones. Other than that leave this 22 as is this week barring any injuries. A repeat performance sees us win this. 1

JimmyGadson 3,455 Posted March 31, 2021 Posted March 31, 2021 (edited) Melksham at his best is an obvious inclusion and if he's deemed fit enough this week (aerobically), I'd put him in for Sparrow. The speed of the game suits his attributes and if he can bring intensity and a willingness to hunt and hit like Sparrow, I think he gets the nod due to the strengths he possesses. Footskills inside 50, an attacking mentality once in possession from a mark and great goal sense. All things we need more of if we're going to start challenging better oppo over the next few weeks and I think this is a good game to bring him in. He's a senior player and would provide a better balance for us. Melksham for Sparrow, hope it happens. Edited March 31, 2021 by JimmyGadson 2

These are the things he hasn't shown in the past and no reason to think he will at this stage of his career. Agree with your assessment of his strengths but I don't think he gets in ahead of Sparrow yet.
