Sssooooo my assumption was that if you were suspended by the AFL tribunal you were not allowed to play footy... how silly was I. Dangerdiver played in the VFL, I’m glad he was able to get over his murder trial so quickly.

The AFL, after the #spud game, suspends a f l o g who deliberately knocked out an opponent,  and then allows him to play in a lesser comp days later... wow that is bush league at its finest. #@carowilson

No whispers yet from Geelong re appealing Rohan's 2 week suspension.

Gone to ground after last week's 4-day pro Danger media campaign failed spectacularly.

They should read the writing on the wall and know that any head high contact that results in concussion will be shown no mercy.  See Sam Reid's 2 match suspension for bump on Fye.

Edit:  Fox are reporting that Geelong have accepted Rohan's 2 week suspension.  Wise.

What a joke the AFL administration (or maladministration) have become.

Make up rules on the run, then allow a favourite to play whilst suspended.  (Remind me, what is SHockings team affiliation?)

High farce.

I believe this week was still in the pre-season for VFL so it doesn't get registered as an official game. Shouldn't be able to play after this week.

I don't think this is favouritism, just a little stroke of luck for Danger.

EDIT Just to add, I don't agree with it. If you're suspended it should be suspended from playing any competitive footy.

Reid accepts his two week suspension reid-accepts-suspension

An interesting bit of info:  “Once the incident was classified as a bump rather than a brace, our advice was that there were limited options for us to challenge the suspension successfully".

As long as the MRP is consistent (yeah, I know, it is unlikely) clubs know the rules and less likely to challenge suspensions which result in concussion.

not so....the vfl season doesn't start for 3 more weekends, so he could play inter-club practice matches the next 2 weekends

**** really? Why are they starting so late? Ok I’m flipping completely for a couple of reasons, first off it’s a really bad look for a player with a 3 game suspension still able to be out on a footy field, secondly it’s plainly unfair to the rest of the competition that players suspended now are given that opportunity to maintain match fitness while players suspended later have to sit on the sidelines.

Rule needs to change, does not pass the sniff test.

no idea why they start so late

the vfl (or whatever they call is SE Aust) seems a shambles this year. not only start late but like other years will have bye rounds because of odd number teams. there are standalone and afl-linked clubs. How they will handle travel and covid with low budgets is anyone's guess. As well they are playing modified experimental rules (e.g. dynamic zones at ball-ups)

hardly a professional second tier suitable for developing afl list players

AFL under Gil and SHocking only seem interested in the 'elite' grade .... however, supporting at very least the 'seconds' is surely an integral part of maintaining quality at the top level.

How to tell if a particular league or competition is worthy of notice or attention: is there a clause in your employment contract linking bonuses to TV ratings of that competition? No = it's not worthy.

Good to see the boys stand up and fight for the win last night. Hope they split the fines amongst the group

A thought on most of our minds, I'd say:

For Careless contact (at LEAST!), HIGH impact (at LEAST!), High contact (irrefutably!), Hawkins gets...what?

Did Caleb Daniel not get weeks for his pile drive  of a players head into the ground? Most dangerous tackle so far this year. If he escaped it is unbelievable.

He got one week.

Totally agree with you on the danger of his tackle, one of those classic cases where the fact the player wasn’t injured got him a pass. For me that’s more dangerous than any of the concussion related tackles I’ve seen including Nibbler’s. Could’ve broken the guys neck.

As for Nev, that is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever seen. Genuinely think we should consider appealing, I’m not sure there was much else he could do to mitigate the impact and he didn’t slam him into the ground.

I mean Nev gets done for that, and Hawkins gets nothing. I’m not saying Hawkins should get suspended but if we’re looking at severity of incidents Nev’s was barely worth a free kick.

Keeping it personal for our Number 1. He gets 1 week for the practice match tackle in his debut year down at Casey. No one injured, significant debate about the MRP...... In May 2021, May hospitalised with a fractured eye socket to miss 4 weeks due to elbow contact, accidental or not. No 26 (with 7 citations in 5 years - thanks Titus), gets the benefit of the doubt! My god, Gill’s organisation is corrupt.....or have I missed something???

Bent elbow, deliberate, form, sore looser, self righteous repentant, shifty....

not all in the team, mind yu..

Just disgraceful. Typical AFL. Rules for some Rules for others.

Of those cited:  2 striking charges for a total of 2 weeks,  2 striking charges for total fines of $3500,  2 rough conduct & a tripping charge for total fines of $5000 and not one injury or blood split.

Hawkins throws a reckless elbow and fractures a players eye socket and not even a discussion. Might be a different story if he had hit him in the temple.   I wonder??

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
