Just rang up and purchased the GF guarantee for my son - as an AFL Silver Junior Member he would be unlikely to get a ticket and he would be spewing if we made it and he couldn't go

Can someone explain how the Saints have 54k members this year and we’re only on 46k? We’ve had a higher tally them then the last few years (9k more in 2019), yet, there they are sitting 14th on the ladder or something with 8k more members than us?

They all signed up preseason when they thought they might sneak a flag. I reckon a few club's had rollovers from last year as well (is credits towards this year's membership) and don't forget their $1 memberships or whatever other scams they have going. Will be interesting to see the membership revenue comparisons at year's end.

It's the age old question around member numbers.

It would be great to compare total membership revenue for a true reflection of membership performance.

I am surprised that we haven’t passed our 2019 total, we are now a better and more mature side. Come on you true believers get on board.!!!!!!

IMO it is the difficulty in getting a seat and covid threat. Lots of people make there decision to go to a game late in the week. But this year you have to plan days in advance. However the biggest factor IMO is trust. After 56 years of failure people are not convince we are the real thing.

I know old Dee our players have just found belief in the coaches and each other I guess it will take time for everyone to find that confidence that we won’t crumble yet again.!!!

St.Kilda's numbers cannot be trusted.  Gonzo is right about the pre-season hopes as well. And their $1 membership scam they used in 2019, just to get peoples names and addresses.

I think it was 2 or 3 years ago, we had more members than the Saints signed up by about 3 or 4 thousand as it approached July.  Then suddenly they miraculously had 4,000 members sign up in one week, just before the tally closed.

Then looking at the revenue at the end of the season, and comparing them to our revenue, a St.Kilda member was only worth $75, whereas ours were worth north of $200.  It just didn't add up, and doesn't today.

Basically it will cost $39 once you get the $50 credit - hope plenty take this up, would be great to see the figures start bumping up over 50k.

Are the MCC sending this out in targeted email?

A great offer. We will always struggle to match the larger Clubs whilst we have so many MCC members as supporters but not dual members. Everyone can see that the MCC Members is full of Melbourne supporters at every MCG game. At the Richmond game there seemed to be more MFC supporters than Richmond. The noise MCC members make when the team walk up the run is magnificent and really appreciated by the players. Petty was looking up to the crowd with a huge grin on his face. He wouldn't hear that out at Casey!

So come on MCC members, take up this special offer. The Club is really trying to find innovative ways for you to become members. No more excuses about not winning games.

So I shouldn't take up my membership with my MCC renewal but wait 6+ months for a special offer?

The club is trying to get members. Are you really going to kick up a stink over $40?

That's not the worst of it. I am a signed up member. I logged on the the ticketek App and presented the Barcode which MFC gave me and tried to get 1 Ticket and the site wanted to charge me 40 bucks plus for a ticket. NOT HAPPY!! INFACT SNARLY!!

I did that also  first time on Ticketeck... it is a bit deceptive ....  First purchase an MFC membership then have the ticketeck luxury of 'upgrading' and spending another pile of money on a more luxurious plastic seat.

52,421 was the final tally announced by the AFL in August 2019. We crossed 50,000 some time in May, so we're tracking OK, I guess, particularly if there's a COVID effect as is apparently affecting attendances. Interestingly, at the time, Pert noted our target was 60,000.

TBH I don't think passing a comment in this forum could be classified as kicking up a stink.  I was just pointing out that it pays to be a late joiner.  Mind you if I remember correctly $50 or whatever in the MCC reserve would hardly touch the sides, and you have to be there to spend it so it might be a good earner for the MCC.

So we have won 8 straight and we have to pay people to join.

Are they ever going to get rid of physical membership cards and be only mobile phone ones? I know they are encouraging members to do so by offering benefits. I’m wondering how long until it doesn’t become an option. I really like having a membership card and lanyard and being able to wear it with pride, letting everyone see I’m a member. I appreciate it’s more of an effort/cost to them, but I’d hate to see it go away

Bought a bottle of wine at the Hugh Trumble last Sat night. $51.00.

We are obviously not paying people to join. It is an incentive to those latecomers or maybe those who did not previously have a membership. Hopefully if they join in a good year we can keep hold of them for next year. At least the Club are proactive in attempting to sign up MCC members.

Without covid I reckon we’d be easily past 55K by now. Crowd numbers way down. A lot of supporters buy memberships if they are going to attend a lot of games

Even though I took up the phone off  this year I want the card in the future. I knew I would not be going this so I it might save the the club a $ or two.

  • PREVIEW: Sydney

The two teams competing at the MCG on Sunday afternoon have each traversed a long and arduous path since their previous encounter on a sweltering March evening in Sydney a season and a half ago. Both experienced periods of success at various times last year. The Demons ran out of steam in midseason while the Swans went on to narrowly miss the ultimate prize in the sport. Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
