whoever replaced Hore late should have been a small firward.
 

This Club cannot play In windy Conditions. Refer Cairns last year AFL and all the years we struggled at Western Oval and Arden St and Moorabbin.

They did not take their chances in the first and third and then got beaten up around the ball as the bigger bodies of the dogs took their toll. Hore missing was a massive loss in those conditions. I felt they tried to play Mithen more forward to cover the loss but it didnt work.

I admire a Pub that can stay open during the current climate. 
That includes pre Covid. I have a Neighbour who owns a Pub near the CBD and he is just holding it together

Terrible game with terrible kicking (if we kicked 50% better it was an easy win).  Kicked ourselves out of the game by missing miss shots on goals and didn't fix out forward structure.  Bulldogs know their game well.  They also marked really well today around the group with their big players and were often positioned better out the back for when the ball went over, thats bad coaching/leadership by us.

Sounds like Goodwin was the stand in coach today with those stats.

I was looking forward to seeing 'our brand'.

We seemed to struggle taking marks and hitting a target today. A lot of the games I have seen this year have shown improved skills and great movement of the ball.

Unfortunately this was not one of those games.

Lot of work this week

First game I've managed to get to this year and they dish up that! Kept kicking the ball too high allowing it to hold up in the wind.  Dogs got back too easily to clog our forward 50  and simply diabolical goal kicking accuracy. 

Anyone know the reason Kate Hore was a late withdrawal?

Back down to earth with a bang.

We had more than enough opportunities to win. Inaccuracy did for us. It happens. Bitterly disappointing to cough it up like that but we just have to regroup and go again.

We weren’t outclassed or outfought and I wouldn’t be too worried about facing the doggies again.

Paxman outstanding as per usual. No lack of effort but not much inspiration from anyone else around her other than perhaps Shelley Scott.

Cunningham worries me. She’s just not a reliable kick.

Delivery was poor but our forwards were so static. There was no separation at all. And no crumbing other than Scott’s goal. We now know the importance of Hore to this team.

Defensively it was panic stations every time the ball went in there. Goldrick will be welcomed back with open arms next week.

Next week against the Pies is now a critical game. Lose and we're back in the pack with very little margin for error left.

We might’ve had more opportunities at scoring goals but the Dogs bullied the girls and brought the heat with some more physical contests after quarter time.

Cunningham needs to be dropped.

Nah. We more than matched them on the inside. Our clearance work and contested game were fine.

You may well be right about Cunningham. I’m thinking put Zanker to FF, she’s much more mobile than Cunningham and would present better. But you’d lose what she gives you around the ground.

Yes, we matched them at contested ball  

But, the Dogs were more physical and left their mark on several of our players.  

The Dogs kicked long and got a lot of goals when the ball went to the back of the pack. They had a player at the back and really just played smart, direct football.

Meanwhile, we tried to short pass and handball our way through traffic, which resulted in messy play, poor forward delivery and general chaos. 
 

Poor kicking at goal hurt us, but the indirect play and general lack of skill killed us. 
 

as others have remarked, Cunningham has become a liability. Doesn’t hold her marks. Can’t kick the set shots and is basically useless at ground level. They need to rethink the FF position.

The doggies were physical but I didn’t realise they roughed up some of our players.

I was there. Being at the game you get a good overall view of what’s happening but you miss the tight stuff and close ups that the TV reveals. I’ll take your word for it though because I’m not going to look at a replay of the game.

The defensive pressure of the dogs baffled us. They were hard and ruffed us up.

We couldn't find the space to execute our usual high skills.

Not enough contributors.

Cunningham had a bad day, she will bounce back.

Scott and Zanker played well except for the missed goals.

Daisy wasted in the back-line when most of the game was played in our half-forward and wing area.

The game was an arm wrestle, except when in the dogs forward area.

I think they suffered from the “red mist” and poor coaching.

Really disappointing I think just like the mens team they drink there own bathwater. Dominated the inside 50's but kept on kicking points mainly due to Zanker and Cunningham. Goldrick and Hore were massive outs can't be replaced. The other 2 irish woman are no good. Let's see if they can rebound against a side on fire in Collingwood it will be a hard task but hopefully they get Goldrick and Hore back.

Against the big bodied FB's Cunningham is all at sea.  Stinear should have moved her further up the field to take away the Dogs advantage, and Zanker to FF.  He finally took her off with 10 minutes to go...too late. If he leaves her there next week, Livingstone will have a party.

Daisy in the HB line is wasted.  6 touches in a game from such a talented player is telling.  Mithen playing forward instead of the middle?  Get real!  Again it wasn't fixed until 10 minutes to go.

Once again, we reverted to trying to handball instead of kicking.  Unfortunately, it appears this was drilled into the girls pre-season as a way to gain ground.  But the game has changed and kicking it now is better, as the new group of rookies have more strength and skills. 

I thought this group had found a bit more resilience this year, but that performance was as bad as any we have seen in the past four and a bit years. Yet again we suffer a completely inexplicable loss against a below average side that will cost us dearly at year end.

Bad kicking is bad football, but they also kept kicking to contests on the flanks inside of attacking the goals. As soon as Cunningham starts getting beaten, our entire forward line collapses around her. The game plan was all wrong and the coach doesn't do nearly enough to change things up when they are not working. 

Kate Hore was a massive loss, as one of the few players in the team with both skills and football nous. Hopefully she is right for this week. Our bottom 5 players are still a real concern, not just with the lack of ball winning ability, but especially the lack of confidence in executing basic skills.

 

I watched it on television, which might explain my different impressions, but I didn't think overuse of the hand ball was our fundamental problem here, kicking wasn't getting us anywhere either.  The Footscray defence was very well drilled, which meant finding an uncontested mark or a good one on one was nigh on impossible in the 30 near goal, and they were playing a slignshot game - they clogged up our forward line to make it hard to find a target and then relied on moving it quickly and getting it out the back to score from pretty much point blank in broken play. It only came off for them about 25% of the time, but when it did it nearly always ended in a goal as we battered ourselves senseless against a brick wall.

We had to fight the wind all day with medium range kicks whereas their goals tended to come from close in - I'm not sure their game plan would have held up on Etihad or in decent conditions, but on a windy day on a suburban ground it worked pretty well.  The inside 50s count I doubt bothered their coaching box at all, they wanted as many of our players as they could get up the ground.

Somebody with more tactical smarts than me (our coaches, perhaps?) would know how to combat this, but I suspect it's hard to adjust to on game day.

Its possible to over analyse sometimes.

We missed very gettable set shots which drained our confidence. If we had applied scoreboard I believe we would have run out easy winners. We had twice as many scoring shots as the doggies. We beat ourselves yesterday.

The doggies took their few opportunities. Their confidence grew as we kept them in the game. They are a limited side and won’t be around for the pointy end of the comp.

Our defence is shaky. Magee nowhere near ready, she doesn't know what she's supposed to be doing. Colvin doesn’t inspire confidence either.

Our forwards need to present much better against the pies. Delivery was poor but our leading was dreadful.

And for God’s sake, kick straight otherwise game plan, tactics, personnel won’t matter.

I think the Vic has been able to keep things ticking over because the council has let them have quite a few outdoor tables along the two streets it fronts. It's not an 'old man's / spit & sawdust' type of place but it straddles the hipster and traditional markets really well.
