no worries, I'll quit my job and start working as a talent scout on no money

Us thinking of the first 6 weeks of the season could be short sighted.  We have guys like M Brown that are ready to go, to fill in if needed.   a younger longer term prospect would be more worthwhile imo. i find it hard to believe there would be no prospects anywhere

Yeah OK while we're at it maybe we can get Tim Lamb and Alan Richardson down to advise you how to do your job.

Some of the commentary on here is genuinely unbelievable.

You'd think we'd used pick 1 in the draft on Daw.

He's training with the club to see if he's capable of taking a spot on our list that only exists because the options we actually wanted to go with (B Brown, Weideman and Hore) are injured.

If he gets the list spot, he'll cost close to nothing. If he doesn't cut it at AFL level, he'll play VFL, and we're back where we started yesterday, which is a list with B Brown, Weideman and Hore injured.

I'm happy to discuss if there are other key position players not currently on an AFL list who would be ready to play AFL football in the first 4-6 rounds while we wait for B Brown and Weideman to recover. Not surprisingly, there have been very few (if any?) such other players suggested as better options.

The guy is a great athlete with absolutely no football nous. He has been in the AFL system almost 10 years for 54 games, and there are pretty clear reasons for that. He is also 30 in three weeks. This would be a laughably stupid move, so pretty much in line with our list management over the past few years.

Maybe, just maybe, Goodwin, Lamb and Co shouldn't have offloaded every key position player from the 2018 list and we wouldn't be in this position.

Lol WTF.

Who are you complaining about here? Cam Pedersen, Sam Frost and Tim Smith?

We haven't had biceps that big at the club since Benny Holland!

In all seriousness though, as many have stated, he's just been asked to train. If the club thinks he's good enough, he'll be offered a gig. He's pretty handy insurance to have as he's a big man who can play at either end and also in the middle. I'm totally for it

My friend says his best position is off half back and we should plan to play May across half forward. Means the $850,000 man will have to rise to the occasion though.

Can't say I see any downside considering the state of our list today. There would be a minimum of 30 AFL players running around in 2021 not as well credentialed as Majak IMHO.

we are never going to play finals if we think offering massive contracts to key defenders just to swing them forward and hope for the best is a smart way to go about it. how about we play forwards in the forward line, backs at the back and mids in the middle for once

Pity we missed out on Mason Wood, we could have inherited the entire dominant Roos fwd line

The strategy is sound.  We're down our 2 first choice KPFs so we're going to use our back-ups Jackson and TMac.  They also happen to be a big part of ruck back-up plan too.

I could name a workable 22 with just B.Brown and Weid out, but if Jackson, TMac or Max get injured too, then we're M.Brown away from playing short.

Coverage for the first 6 weeks also makes sense - we need to get off to a solid start in a season we are aiming to go deep into finals.

We've got 3 list vacancies so we can afford to use one.  We've got Weid, Petty, Jackson and Bradtke as developing talls - we don't need to add another one, we need someone ready to go Round 1 in any one of multiple roles.

Daw makes perfect sense because he can play ruck, forward or back at a reasonable level and is ready to go Round 1.

We'd be officially drowning if any of several key position players went down after Weed and BB, and some here are saying no to a life raft. Very strange.

Can't really think of a better option to address our recent need for KP backup. Good move.

in relation to signing majak, i think its smart business given circumstances, its 12 months and honestly i can see him playing early when tmac lets us down and we need to protect LJ and get some continuity in our system with the 3 talls down forward. at the very least it keeps maxi honest and gives him a proper built big body to crash into at training coz yes we have some developers in LJ and Bradtke and pinch hitters in TMac and MBrown a genuine brute to challenge him physically will be good for him leading into the season.

i say it every time but there is no reason not to fill out your list when these SPP players are cat A rookies with contracts paid entirely outside the salary cap. i think Majak and Wiz Jnr will get spots and we will carry one over to the MSD

would honestly rather MBrown over TMac and give it till round 8 and i think the coaches will too if it comes to it

Yeah you can flip those two names in my Daw argument and it still comes out the same.  I realise you're not saying it does come out any different.

TMac vs M.Brown is another issue and will be decided in the fullness of the season.

Fantastic, and it’s only a couple of years ago. Didn’t suit the NM list at this point but  could  be v handy for the Dees

Thanks for the reply.
I guess in essence I’d prefer to not take a bloke who has proven over 11 seasons not capable of playing AFL standard footy. I’d take a punt if someone else.
thanks also for explaining how a ‘list works’. Most enlightening

“ not capable of playing AFl footy”

the clips show he is well and truly capable . The turmoil at NM in recent years has not helped him

Well short answer is that Oscar was delisted two months ago. The need for another tall has just now arisen

I mean holding down a spot, playing multiple games in a row.  Over 11 seasons he only had one decent patch and he was down back, where we are pretty well covered. So perhaps more accurate wording would be he has shown he is not a consistent AFL player.  And that is a poor team that was crying out for decent players.

Even Jimmy Toumpas looked a star in his highlights

Can he play ruck?

Yes, Oscar was a fine ruck prospect and forward before he landed at the MFC graveyard, Preuss could ruck a bit too.

majak is a jack of all trades, master of none, but i actually don't see him as the 'ruck relief for max' option that same on here do - surely that's the role for luke jackson

i think he's best suited behind the ball, as a defender, but he can obviously pinch hit up forward too if needs be

That ruck relief for Max is critical for our success this season. It will allow Max to be somewhere else on the ground dominating the play and requiring significant and courageous matching. Daw can also do a thing or two at the goal mouth and in defence.

I've thought long and hard before deciding to post on this and thinking through the various views. I almost posted late last  year suggesting we could look at Majak Daw when we made the move on Preuss and Majak was delisted.last year

I understand where people are coming from on this but in my view is that  being delisted from a club is not an automatic  stamping a players papers that that  should not ever play AFL again. Clubs delist groups of players both collectively when refreshing and rebuilding lists and individually depending on circumstances including form, team balance ,injury potential etc.-each year and each case has its own individual characteristics and variables.

North made  its list clean out last year for its own reasons.

I'm not sure being delisted is a statement on whether a player has a future in AFL or not. They may well still have a place in another club where they are just what the club needs.

Others will disagree but I feel more comfortable having him on the list than not. With the injuries we already have in the talls department, we are only a match incident away from major deficiencies in our team... and we are relying on Petty, Joel Smith and  others  to be injury free and contributing-this is not guaranteed. Petty has been out for a long time-though I think he has massive potential to lift us if fit and on the park.

Whatever you believe about our coaching situation in the past, I feel we are much better placed in that area this year-especially in game plans and getting the best out of our list.  Majak has shown he has ability to be a really good contributor-those video clips show that. Its more the consistency and other factors like  injury that might be challenges. But if he is happier at Melbourne than at North last year, who knows what could happen.

We do need strong types to take on the hulk and bulk of clubs like West Coast, Geelong and Richmond.  Thats my pennies worth-(but am happy to go decimal if need be and make it two cents worth. :)

Good summation Brother.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
