James Jordon confirmed to debut. Good on him. Tear ‘em up son.

I feel like he could be a great find for us - he runs both ways, can play inside and outside, is a good kick and showed against the Dogs that he can spread from the contest.  We don't need him to be a star - just to be able to complement the players we have in there already.  Could he be the "moneyball player" that enables those around him to reach their potential?  I hope so!

no one else in the midfield does that with regularity... perhaps that's why he is picked... he legitimately contributes to team ethos...

I love these sort of comments. What, we should cut him today? That's it, no more possibility you will play for the red and blue again?

He is contracted so how about you see what he produces this year before making ridiculous comments.

u clearly have never seen another post i've ever written, i don't think he's a wingman i think if he's to play it should be as a HF as he seems to have a decent sidestep and a good eye for goal but his trajectory each year seems to be out of the team for 15 weeks break in for 3 games when we are at our most injured and then return to the 2s again. i think we have better options and there are better options elsewhere in the afl playing magoos who we should look at bringing in going forward

Great analysis.  I agree re Bowey and Petty - would love to have them in but they will probably make them earn it in the VFL first and come in if the ones in the team fail to fire.

I agree with your reasoning but at the same time it seems a big stretch to leave Brayshaw out (esp when Viney will probably be looking to come in in round 2).  The question for mine will be whether we'd play all four of Kozzie, Chandler, ANB and Spargo.  It would definitely be a different look.  I don't mind it but i suspect it may mean that Kozzie / Spargo might get more time up the ground eg on the wing.  That means that Vanders spot will be under threat.

Will be really interesting to see what they go with.

My centre bounce rotations would roughly be:
Oliver 75%
Harmes, Petracca 60% (Petracca attending more centre bounces then swapping forward with Jordon/Jones/ANB).
Jordon 50%
Kozzie 40%
Jones/ANB 15%

We know Brayshaw isn't good anywhere but in the middle and there's already 4 guys ahead of him and Koz makes 5. I know Koz on a wing was reported but I don't see that suiting him, if he's in the midfield get him around the ball IMO. I'd have Brayshaw on ball for Harmes' minutes but stopping Fyfe has to be a priority. I also wouldn't worry about getting Viney and Gus back in next week or the week after that, they can make a double change if it's needed.

Jordon's locked in. Which leaves Chandler, Jones and Vanders (or possibly Baker) vulnerable but I think each of those 3 can do the job asked of them.

Our master mind of a coach has ruled out Hibberd and Melksham. Both far too underdone.

Steve May participated in full training and will play provided he wakes up well tomorrow and the day after.

Good decision.

Hibberd only played 3 quarters on the weekend after missing majority of this pre season.

What BS!

Brayshaw when played in his proper position came third in the brownlow FCS

SInce then he hasnt been played there because of Viney

Play him on the ball and find positions for all of the others please>

One part of that statement is telling, we’re the 6th oldest and 6th most experienced. It’s time those we considered “kids” not long ago stepped up to being men and put their talent to use.

Yes, but that age figure is a bit deceptive. It's list age, not team age, and I'd be surprised if many of our elderly citizens play much (or at all) this year. Our 4 over-30's are Jones, Mitch Brown, Daw and Jetta - a far cry from having the likes of Dangerfield or Riewoldt.

I think a more relevant stat would be the age of your top 10 players, as that's where it counts - and where we're still comparatively young.

Jones and ANB are really just filling in little patches to cope with less restrictions. But Kozzie and Jordon yes. We need pace and skill, and we need run.

Oliver, Petracca and Harmes are in the side to rip in to win the ball. Someone has to get that handball. Or sweep the pack and tackle.

He shouldn’t have finished top 30 in the Brownlow. He got Oliver and Gawn’s votes because they back chat the umps.

It was also one dimensional, one paced, one way running midfield that bombed the ball forward non stop. That style does not work.

Everyone knows that style doesn’t work. We need a guy like Kozzie in the midfield. And we need to set some standards on fitness and work rare and pick Jordon

I said I wasn't going to do another team pre view but the sub rule wasn't out yet.

B: HIBBERD, MAY, LEVER

HB: SALEM, TOMLINSON, HUNT

C: BAKER, PETRACCA, LANGDON

HF: PICKETT, MCDONALD, NEAL-BULLEN

F: FRITSCH, GAWN, SPARGO

FOLL: JACKSON, OLIVER, BRAYSHAW

IC: HARMES, JONES, JORDON, RIVERS

SUB: SPARROW

EMERG: BOWEY, CHANDLER, PETTY, VANDENBERG

I think they will play it safe and play Spargo ahead of Chandler.

Bowey wasn't named to debut so he won't be playing.

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
