So our 2021 draft hand looks like this now.

Round 2 pick tied to Brisbane

Round 3 pick tied to Western Bulldogs

Round 3 pick tied to Hawthorn

Essentially 3 picks most likely in the range of 30 - 50.

No first or fourth round pick.

Hopefully we win the premiership and I won’t care about Draft night.

How did we manage to get that pick swap thru the AFL!

We have no pick 1 next year so technically not supposed to trade out any other picks.

The 2021 4th round pick was tied to North so if Hawks go up the ladder they have done very well from that pick swap.

I thought the same thing. I feel these rules are applied loosely when it's not involving a first round pick. We still have three picks in the subsequent rounds and we're better off so AFL probably gave it the all clear.

As we can see from tonight, a future fourth round pick is worthless. If next year’s draft is as slow as this, we might not get some of those future picks until 2022!

Essendon trading for Oliver would make sense.

Do we have any more room on our list to draft any rookies?

Or is our list signed, sealed and delivered?

Overall im quite happy with how we went tonight. Laurie and Bowey are two of the absolute best kicks in the draft which is obviously what we've been crying out for. Laurie I think is a really good chance to play round 1 next year who should be able to slot straight in as a small forward. Bowey could be a chance as well up forward depending on what structure we want to go with, or he could even line up on the opposite wing to Langdon round 1 if he's fit enough. Laurie and Bowey are both very zippy, good tacklers, and most importantly have elite skills and are elite decision makers with ball in hand. When Taylor said we were after quick, creative, classy players that is Laurie and Bowey to a tee and very happy with the pickups.

A bit disappointed we didn't go for Carroll but there must be some valid reason we didn't pick him but never less Fraser Rosman is another exciting youngster who could be anything. Extremely raw with having played only a few NAB league games as a 17 year old but has some serious weapons with height, pace, endurance, and booming kick. Could potentially become a unique wingman or key forward. Apparently tore up a practice game for Sandringham at the start of the year and could've shot up the boards. Definitely a pick on potential and we probably won't see much of him next year but it looks like a potential high reward investment in years to come.

The list management boys are noted for there ability to rise up the pick ladder.

They have started on next year already

Pick Swap with Hawthorn

Melbourne has traded pick No.46 and its 2021 Fourth Round pick to the Hawks for their 2021 Third Round pick.

MELBOURNE

Picks (at the start of draft): 18, 19, 28, 50, 89

Selections: Jake Bowey (21), Bailey Laurie (22), Fraser Rosman (34)

The Dees drafted the son of former St Kilda player Brett with their first selection. Jake Bowey’s classy skills in recent seasons have impressed clubs, with the small also performing exceptionally well in the speed and endurance tests. He has the ability to hit the scoreboard close to goal, but isn’t afraid to put his body on the line when he plays in the midfield. His stoppages work is also very good. With the following selection they took another smart player, with small forward Bailey Laurie. He was part of the Oakleigh Chargers premiership side in 2019. His footy IQ is through the roof and he is very clean with his disposal. Rosman is a fine selection for the club with his versatility and outside skills fitting a need for the Demons. He plays like Isaac Smith and has a nice left foot kick. His long limbs make him a tough opponent around the ball.

Grade: A-

Knightmare must have fallen asleep at the end.  Yes Isiah Winder stays in WA at the Eagles.  I think the brackets are his prediction at where they would be drafted.

He played 1 practice game this year. One of our directors used to coach him. There wasn't any need to repeatedly interview him or let anyone know we were interested. It wasn't like it was just Holmes we were linked to either. Laurie and Bowey were both heavily linked to us.

Jason Taylor even does a Melbourne media hit the night before the draft stating his desire for outside run and skills.

Waterboarding might get it through your thick head.

Melbourne = dumb club = lose a lot of games.

Smart club = no leaks, run misdirection, sneaky, get their picks = win games.

I'll be happy when we stop doing stupid things.

Or maybe it was all a ruse DS and we really wanted Fraser Rosman all along ?

Hate to say it but Coll recovered from their trade period disasters.

They started with picks:  14, 16, 65, 66, 68 of any potential value.  Somehow they converted them (and their 2021 1st pick) to picks 17, 19, 23, 30, 31 and 44 (after matched picks).  And their draftees included the highly touted Macrae, Henry and Mc Innes.

Excellent pick swapping and drafting.  They did very, very well.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
