Max is being quite honest.  I doubt many would disagree with this comment:  “When we do flash back to 2018 and see a Prelim Final, but nothing else either before it or after it, you almost see that little dynasty as a fail".

He is virtually saying 2018 was an aberration.  Following on from his comment a month or two ago that 2019 was 'a fail', I'm not sure it is fair to describe his comments as 'fluff pieces'.

I've never been one to criticise the club for these puff pieces or media commitments.

But I think someone needs to take Max aside and explain to him what a dynasty is.

The two key takeaways were that TMac is now super fit. Touch wood he gets back to his best. The other was how highly the club rates Jackson.

Another embarrassing piece of rubbish from this club.

Just Shut TFU and perform on the field FFS

i for one can't wait for the next radio appearance that gets turned into an article about some sense of confidence and positivity within the playing / coaching / administrative group

I can’t be 100% sure but I think I have heard this before.

The season that we walk the talk and do it consistently will be a great time but until then it’s more of the same dribble.

Yes I agree and that alone makes fir some Confidence building news.

The two single points D/L have made about Tommy and Jacko over this season are to me :

1. Tommy is on the scrap ( s "crap") heap and should be consigned to the Twos and won't play a senior game, nor should he be considered!!! Some IMO quite disgraceful posts about him which ignore Toms battle with something I don't feel we know much about and even Burgo or Tommy  have responsibility for. Ie who if anyone approved his sudden gain of weight and if so why wasn't it rectified like it is being done now or is it His foot or toe injury related Starting back to early 2018 when he missed the first few games and returned vs Bombers at Marvel Stadium.

2. Jacko is a work in progress. Please dont overload His work and he will be a good player "in a few years"!!! Now there are much better judges Than me on D/L and within the Club but please don't tell me that Jacko is like Weid !!! What he does on the footy field comes naturally and fortunately From his extraordinary competitive nature as highlighted by his follow ups from the ruck which make him an extra mid  ( think he is both inside and outside) as he just sees ball and gets ball then looks to dispose or peel off a generally good quality handball to our benefit. No one will teach him that and I well bet that 75/80% of his game is based on that and he will continue to marvel us just the same way as Nic Nat has the WC fans. What he needs will be ruck training and practice and high marking similarly. These skills will continually improve each year BUT Jacko will be one of our top ten players already from this year on.

IF both players contribute Tom getting back 2018 form no matter where he will play and Jackos natural development Continues we will be a 3/4 goal better side automatically.

I can not therefore understand the doomsayers saying we will struggle ( serious multiple injuries not withstanding) When BBB and his effect on the forward  line Frittas development and accuracy plus Kossie and Rivs development and we hope a much better game plan with dome input fir our mids from Ooze to ensure they play as a team not individuals all mistakenly chasing kicks and Some the plaudits.

Yhe major areas are Forward  and On ball and if we get those right then it is a no brainer the improvement in 2021 will be walked and not just talked.

I know he has media obligations.

I know it’s a fluff piece

Who said he needed to self-flagellate?

The messaging could be different and still cater to the whole fanbase.

Hearing the same thing each pre season without follow through makes the words had to swallow. That was my point which you’ve conveniently decided to by-pass.

Sorry BDA Gawny does  not have to satisfy "The whole fan base". That is impossible and you know it.

What is a fluff piece Is saying we are ready for a top4 spot and fail to give any back up as to why we don't improve.

The comments about the defence,  mids and forwards plus BBB are honest  and his reason for saying we are ready for success. Also one year 2018 is really nothing when you look at before and after that date.

Obviously he is One of the best at positively promoting the Club and relates pretty well to our expectations.

Saying we don't deliver is easier than Actually exAmining the reasons why and is it because we drink our own water or just wildly forecast for 56 years That we are going places and haven't won that bl..day elusive flag! Not really I guess that every year I believe  it is going to be the year we end the drought and look at why we can rather than worry about predictions or expectations harming our chances.

BTW see my post on Tommy and Jacko etc and if you disagree comment against it as it relates to our ability in 2021 and potential success.

If Tmac gets close to 2018 form, Jacko progresses and plays 10 good quality games AND triple B gets back to his 40+ goal form then we’re a genuine premiership contender. Always lots of if’s and buts buuuttt our fwd line was  the let down last season.

By comments with regards to the 2’s were in the context of the talk before trade period of TMac staying to fight for his place. To dissuade him of this notion I would have been very clear in conversations with him that

a)       He’s not best 22

b)      The youngsters such as Jackson and Petty will be given playing time before him

That being the case a year in the 2’s beckoned for him unless he was traded.

I suggested he take a pay-cut to stay or secure a move. Those views were shot down in flames by the majority.

There was obviously a meeting of minds as he did in fact explore his options. There were no takers. The market verdict was clear.

My comments were not intended to be disrespectful rather a realistic assessment of his situation. If my tone was curt, it’s because I expect $700k players to perform (injuries aside). I don’t know too many premiers who’ve carried a highly paid passenger. Cap is precious and we’ve wasted a chunk on TMac.

With respect to the weight gain, has this been substantiated by anyone at the club or is it something his management is saying. The implication is the club have mismanaged him. Big call seeing as he’s had Burgess, one of the best in the business, for a year trying to get him right. Sounds to me like someone making excuses for themselves.

I’m encouraged to hear he’s dropping the weight and is looking sharp. He appeared to be moving freely in the short snippet of footage I saw. He’ll provide depth and cover injuries to our KPP’s (hopefully won’t arise). IF he does regain his spot and produces 2018 level form I’ll be delighted and more than happy to come on here and say well done. But for $700k a year his 2018 form is what he’s expected and paid to deliver.

If we had a better coach we would have played finals 2017, 2018 and 2020... and maybe 2016.

Shame we are being held back.

Pretty sure we played finals in 2018 but I get the sentiment,,,

Great summary of the realistic situation regarding T MAc

No it wasn’t. All 3 lines need to get better.

The backline is solid but still not up with the best teams. It can’t just be May and Salem. Lever has to improve. Hibbo has to turn back the clock as he did mid year before tiring and they need to find answers at the other spots.

The midfield was ordinary against good opposition. Brisbane killed us. Port ran rings around us. Geelong spread. Richmond out worked and out smarted us. So did the Dogs. Yze has a huge job trying to create a cohesive unit that holds up under pressure. He has to retool some of our best players to change the way they play.

We have more tall options up field that could help the consistency of scoring and ball movement. But it all means little if the defensive pressure isn’t good and our talls and mediums are defensive liabilities. Adding Ben Brown and then thinking of adding back T Mc means needing to find big gains with pressure. Again, another huge coaching job and likely a change in personnel

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
