Exactly Chook?

Rennick's a property and legal guy.

An extremely good question! So we have the normal keep the board members in house. Two members retiring and two only applications so no need for us members to vote. Has been this way for at least the last 15 years. So good ship MFC slowly ploughs on.

Here we are straight from the MFC web site

Rennick joins the Board with more than 25-years’ experience in the legal and property industries. He is currently a Partner and Global Board member of Pinsent Masons. Prior to that, he was Head of Australia for Pinsent Masons, CEO of an Australian law firm and a Director of an ASX-listed property development company. His responsibilities encompass leadership, people and client strategies and management. Rennick’s areas of expertise include master-planned community projects, property development, corporate, commercial and retail real estate.

Bartlett: "His experience is of great benefit regarding our top off-field priority, of building and establishing our home base and training facility within the MCG precinct.”

Yep, I found this bit interesting:

Led by Chairman Glen Bartlett, the Melbourne Board has reviewed its composition over the past 12 months, to ensure the right mix is in place to achieve the strategic objectives it has set out for the next three years. This process identified that with Thurin retiring from the Board, ongoing expertise in the commercial real estate space was required. It was also identified that a director with a strong AFL background was necessary, given the Club’s core business.

Hmmmm

I'm sure we will see tangible benefits soon

We 'll come back Brad Green

Genuine question, but what are Brad Green’s credentials?

As an ex player, captain, and assistant coach a two other football clubs and a cricket club, he is reasonably placed to provide a view on football matters.

This is exactly the sort of expertise we need to get our planned new HQ off the ground so i think we've sought the right skill set. Whether this guy is any good time will tell.

Welcome to the MFC David we really are a bit anxious about our training facilities living up to our heritage and welcome back Brad Green I am really pleased that you agreed to join the Board it would be fitting to be on board as we rise back up the ladder.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Skillset is important but surely culture is more important.

The AFL thinks boards should fill their own vacancies and avoid drama.

Personally I wouldn’t mind an election every now and then to actual get a competition of ideas. Maybe even some every day folk who give voice to the fans. They won’t win the board seat but they might give the directors a taste of what members value

It is good to have Brad Green back in any shape or form. He is a champion person. He will contribute some footy nous no doubt.

I worked with David Rennick, as a representative of a corporate client using his firm's property, development and construction expertise, over a number of years in a past  life. Serious Dees supporter (our relationship was during the exciting '90s!), central to growing his niche firm to major status, and/but a down to earth regular guy. I expect his worth will be considerable in the new headquarters project.

Welcome on board Brad. Just in time for a preseason.?

I' m not enthused.

The club needs a swamp drainer.

Based on what? How would you know the operation of the board or otherwise?

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
