It’s just a really tough time to be joining the board, not a lot of upside involved Id imagine. We almost have to make it clear that Green won’t have the weight of coaching and footy department decisions on his plate. Let him learn rather than take the heat for big decisions. I love the Giants getting Jimmy Bartel. Dunstall would be the dream but he’d never do it. In terms of former Demons I’d love to get Al Nicholson. Maybe Green’s the right guy for the job. It was so nice to see the past players energized in 2018, hopefully we can build on that Yeah good comments mate. I'm a fan of Nicho too, he would be my top choice to replace Mahoney if he leaves. Green won't be held accountable for the club's football performance. It is the Coach and GM Football that carry that. And, Boards don't have one person responsible for a specific portfolio. More often than not they chair or sit on the relevant sub-committee eg Governance, Finance, Football, Audit etc The sub-committees set the club strategy, sign off on key CEO recommendations, sign off on key appointments, delve into critical issues/problems etc 3 Quote
Red and Blue realist 2,063 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Does everyone who's saying it'd be good to have an ex-footballer on the board understand that Bartlett played for West Coast? While he was no champion player, he at least played at the highest level and had a pretty long career at WAFL level before becoming a lawyer. The board doesn't need to be made up of ex-players, unless they also bring board level skills with them. 4 Quote

Welcome back Brad Personally I would also like to see Daisy on the Board. As Caro said this week on Footy Classified - Daisy is now the premier on-air analyst. I want her in Goodwins ear somehow, etc, etc., Before the pile on - I know maybe not a lot to beat - think McAvanaey, BT, Darcy, Richo,.............anyone on Channel 7 really (Lingy's a good second though) 1 Quote

But she can be asked her opinion. Lingy’s a good second? What does that mean? If Ling has made any sense for more than a second I’d be surprised 4 Quote

This true but if Bartlett and the Board are making the call they must think it is worthwhile to have Green or similar. Also, Bartlett is busy with a variety of President and Board responsibilities so having an experienced football person (and maybe a Football sub-committee) to evaluate football matters helps with his job. More than happy to have him on board if he's deemed worthy, I don't think we're going down the Essendon path of getting ex-players into roles to appease the masses. Yze is very highly rated and if the board think Green is the right person then I'm sure he is. 2 Quote

I know this won't be popular... ...but maybe she's just busy trying to sweep up Bruce and BT's mess behind them. ...and just maybe she's been told not to show the boys up too much. She has come back to the pack a little of recent times. Still is ahead of the boof heads though. Run your own race Daisy, don't let them drag you down. Quote

I bet its crossed her mind? She helped coach the AFLW team while pregnant with her twins and has held other positions at the club but left to focus on her game and the media. So we may need to wait a while to see where her career goes. One thing is for sure she loves the Dees - when they were setting the rules for marquis players at the start of the AFLW she told Gil that if she couldn't go to the Dees she wasn't playing. 3 Quote
Bates Mate 4,520 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Does anyone know if brad has any business acumen ,experience and or education. I understand he's been requested to be on the board as a football representative but In a boardroom environment you do need to have some business skills about you, to be effective 1 Quote

At the time of post I thought it was as an assistant. I like Brad and don’t rate our current crop of assistants. In terms of a board role I’m not opposed to having a football director on it. We need change. Whatever is happening at the moment isn’t working. 2 1 Quote
Maldonboy38 6,435 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I understand the warm fuzzies that come from getting Dees ex-players involved in and around the club, especially relating diretly to football, but it doesn't necessarily mean much in the Board Room. We need CAPABLE Board-functioning people, not necessarily gun footballers. I am a HUGE fan of Brad Green, but have no idea how he will function in the administrative and business setting of an AFL club board. I remember him as a particularly inarticulate skipper and have no idea if he has any management or business experience, but he is going to need some to survive in the board room. Unlike some Demonlanders, I rate Glen Bartlett, and believe the resurrection of our club under Roos and Jackson as being in equal part due to the presence of Bartlett as president. So I will trust his judgement on this, but will also watch with a keen eye to see if Brad's appointment as board member responsible for the actual football makes any noticeable difference to the actual football itself. 2 Quote

The company supplies fire extinguisher systems and does safety audits and servicing. I am delighted with Yze's appointment and as for BG, it must be good for the board to have the insights of a 200+ game player and former captain, as ordinary as Brad's year leading the group was. His role I guess is as a liaison between the football department and the board and he at least has paid his dues on field. I know many have lamented the lack of "Melbourne people" around the club but it doesn't always work, as Jimmy's time as president showed. For all that I think it's great that Yze is coming in with some intellectual property. Brad maybe less so, but welcome anyway. 3 1 Quote
Roost it far 10,146 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 We need people who know how to get the best out of this club. Is he that person? I think Yze is our next coach Quote

KLV 1,768 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I assume (bloody hope) that Bartlett has done appropriate due diligence and can see tangible benefits of Brad Green joining the board Quote
