Well good news is we have Burgess signed to a 3 year deal (allegedly). And Iā€™d much rather Pert over Mahoney to be conducting an internal review (though external would be preferred, but no doubt cost $).

Where did you hear this? Great news, if true!

Ā

From what i've been hearing it sounds like the entire development department is very much under the microscope as well.Ā

there is a concern that a few players have seen their development stall in the past 2 seasons.Ā

It sounds like this review isn't missing anyone.Ā

Personally though i don't really see what has given Pert or anyone confidence in Goodwin, i think he rode the momentum from Roosy as far as he could and now it's gone and he's clueless

Gee I hope this is true. I feel we need a clean out from top to bottom. I just dont want us to waste the talent we have on our list. We should be playing finals. I feel the same way in that Goodwin rode the momentum from Roos. Now there is nowhere to hide. Interesting times ahead, could be the kick up the [censored] the club needs. Everyone needs to be accountable for their role at the club.

Don't know tbh. I know footy people say he's a level headed operator, which I guess is handy for a footy manager role, but aside from that I don't really know what his strengths are.

Was Richo at collingwood while Pert was there ...

just click on the extension in my post above and it mentions "Adelaide is chasing fitness guru Darren Burgess, who signed a three-year deal when he arrived last summer". Admittedly it is Fox Footy, so not sure of its authenticity.

Yep, they would have had 5 years playing together there.

Then Richo was an assistant at Collingwood 2006-08, so maybe 12-18 months with Pert.

If Mahoneyā€™s Position is in question after an objective review, then thatā€™s all fine, my reservation is the timing. Do we want to do this ahead of trade & draft period?

While I find it hard to assess his performance in other areas, Mahoney seems to do well at this time of year. MovingĀ him on now could hinder getting deals across the line (we remember how Bell almost bollocksed things up for Freo when he filled in in 2018).

The list manger Tim Lamb would be all over this anyway. Ā Having the support of Mahoney helps but not necessarily the reason we get the players inĀ

Ā

Brett Anderson, former Inside footy / draft guru and mad demon supporter now working in Port Adelaideā€™s recruitment team would be a good person to reach out to get into our recruitment team.Ā
Ports recruitment has been exceptionally good the last few years and Brett is a vital part of that team.Ā

Article on Josh Mahoney.

Can someone PM me this please.Ā

I understand I might be in the minority here, but I'm a fan of Mahoney (or the parts we get to see).

Has always conducted himself professionally, even during controversial times and I've always been left with a level of calm assurance that I haven't felt from our other media regulars, except for perhaps Jackson.Ā

However, I think he would know that your accountable on results, and if that's the reason for his alleged dismissal, then it can't be argued against. We're underperforming, and he plays a vital role on our success.Ā

He was a big supporter of Goodwin when he got the job and has over seen the operation for a decade. Like it or not he has not got us to being a regular finals team. In the end team results stop at his door.Ā

Mostly gives a run down of Mahoney's history with the Dees, mentions Richo and Burgess, the important bit (I believe we're allowed to quote bits out of articles) is:

The clubā€™s board remains frustrated at the lack of progress, after the Dees failed to reach the finals for the 13th time in 14 years.
A review is underway, which has put Mahoney under the microscope. Coaches and fitness staff will also be reviewed.
Chief executive Gary Pert will be central to the staffing outcomes.

Mahoney was safe on Monday, but there was a feeling from some at the Demons that he could struggle to hold on.
The Demons are kicking goals in most areas except for on-field. Mahoney was seen by some as a future chief executive, but his future could suddenly lie elsewhere.

I was told of a huge reshuffle last week.Ā
no names were given, but it was a ā€œWatch this spaceā€ so i am not at all Suprised if Mahoney goes. But who will fill his role, if he does go??

Richo might IMO. Have heard 'footy people' and Tom Morris all float the idea recently.

Given there's starting to be a few mentions of Mahoney it's gathering momentum that he'll be gone.

Thereā€™s bound to be change. 2 years now we have failed. We should have been aiming Top 4 this year. But 2019 was such a disaster.Ā
Pert has to be ruthless and fair. He knows what is needed to be up the top

Ā

What's everyone'sĀ collective memoriesĀ of the last time/s this amount of media and D'land speculation on 'significant result X' DIDN'T end withĀ X resulting? I'm thinking there might have been quite a few??

10 years in the job and only one finals appearance. He's had a good go at it but it time for a change.Ā Not sure shunting Richo into the GM role as has been mentioned makes sense though.Ā Ā Ā

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

Itā€™s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the Ā Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measlyĀ 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?Ā  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
