Michaelangelo Ricci on Sen SA has stated that the Crows are making a big money move to entice Darren away from the Dees.

What is his contractual status?

This obviously has legs so something is not sitting right here.

Times like these an extra $50k in the soft cap space would be handy.

I would imagine he signed with us for a few years at least.

Crows attempting to poach Darren Burgess. Can we change the thread title please?

  • Demonland changed the title to Crows Attempting to Poach Darren Burgess

When he was announced the club said

"MELBOURNE has recruited world renowned fitness expert Darren Burgess to oversee the club’s fitness and medical program for the 2020 season."

If we lose Burgo before we can take advantage of his skills with the normal length games/season i will go outside and scream obscenities into the air

Something smells here, Michaelangelo is a close friend of Darren through his time at Port.

They've got money to burn the Crows, would have doubled our offer.

Interesting development this. Hope we can hold onto to him.

I hope we took notes during his time at the club.

If Port have offered him double he is as good as gone.

Playing devils advocate here, but I wouldn’t say that out fitness levels were overly superiority compared to other clubs.

They will have the same cap restrictions as every other team

Agree, it’s not like it made that much of a difference

Ah, excellent news.

Interested to know your thoughts on why.

The Port Fitness crew have taken them to the top of the ladder, so don’t think FD would move on them. The Crows are desperate.

Best year injury-wise for as long as I can remember.  Very few soft-tissue injuries too, which is quite the feat given the compact fixture. Hard to argue the correlation with his arrival and there’d be a strong argument for the causation

Thanks.  I had the worry meter highly tuned and the sarcasm detector failed to activate...

NO, YOU CAN'T HAVE HIM.

However, if you're looking for a Head Coach...

We had very few soft tissue injuries this year. I have no medical background or expertise at all but it wouldn't surprise me if there is a link between aerobic/physical fitness and soft tissue injuries. Hopefully someone like @Webber can tell me whether there's any link.

But putting that to one side, we won 11 fourth quarters (4th best for the league) but also drew another two, which overall made us the 2nd best team for fourth quarters. Our fourth quarter percentage was 164.85%, a clear second (Geelong was first at 179.9%, St Kilda third at 134.88%). We outscored our opponents in fourth quarters by 131 points across 17 games.

We also went 6-3 in the last 9 games of the season despite having a league-high three four-day breaks across the season and no bye in that period. Despite that, we didn't have players breaking down, and we continued to run games out well.

So, I think our fitness levels were pretty good, and even if they're not superior to other clubs, this year showed significant improvement to 2019.

Why would we sign him on a one year deal unless it was at Burgo’s own request.

Hopefully the AFL clarifies soft cap and list sizes soon so that we can prepare for the trade period. This uncertainty is not doing anyone any favours.

I wonder if this is the same Adelaide rumour mill that said the Crows wanted to poach Goodwin - and the very next week our board [censored] the bed and gave him an overly long contract?

I wish I had mates in the media. I’d be getting them to constantly inflate my value.

It’s all a game, and I hope we’ve learnt our lesson.

I think the fact Bennell got on the park and AVB didn’t break down are glowing endorsements for Burgess. Those two have probably combined for 10 games in 5 years.

He seems to have a great rapport with the guys too, I think he’s probably our most important recruit in many, many years

I would.  We ran out games superbly this year, and our injury run across the board was better than anything I can remember under Misson.

He is the one off season recruit for the 'off field' department that was a raging success in my book.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
