The thing that St Kilda did well was they went and recruited a set, a set they needed to improve their side and fill their needs. They needed outside run, they got Hill, they needed a inside player, they h=got Jones, they need a ruckman, they got Ryder, they needed a defensive key, they got Marshall.

We did to a degree with Langdon and Tomlinson, but Tomlinson has not worked... we need to bit the bullet, we need to get a tall Fwd and some more runners. No Mucking around, we just have to do it, get Smith, or Phillips, and get Brown.

Huge month coming up for the club..  Smith may want another flag, going to get that at Geelong before us, Phillips is Langdon.. so why not throw everything at him, Brown takes the best defender, teh best tall defender, allows Weid more freedom. Just get him.

I understand its all dependant on other clubs wanting Tom and what we get for Pruess and thats fair enough.

Jones is just as much outside if not more than in IMO.

Tom Phillips should see an easier pathway at the Demons than Freo.

goes very nicely with the news geelong have kicked ahead for smith and also clarko being desperate to keep him and upped the $$ from the hawks end

We certainly have an opening on the wing. Particularly for someone that once kicked 15 goals in a year  - which doesn't sound like much but Langdon only kicked 2 this year despite a very good season.

Couldn’t agree more.  Everyone knows my view. Phillips gives us 5-6 years minimum. He’s the perfect fit and we can guarantee him game time in his preferred decision. We can help the Pies salary issue. It’s a win win. I’d be shouting out that he is our target. Make him feel wanted.  A future 2021 pick gets it done.

Let Smith go to Geelong. I'd be turning out attention to this bloke.

Plus he won't even have to change his commute into training (well H&A season at least).

I like the idea of getting him, I think he fits our side perfectly.

Feel exactly the same. Only difference being I'd try to keep all 2021 picks if possible.  This years draft is very compromised by the high number of Academy, Father/Son and every other draft lurk going. Next year not so, and there will be a whole bunch of kids unseen this year that would have rocketed up the order given the chance to play. So some extra gems in what has already been described as (yeah, I know) a great crop.

I was happy to accommodate Smith  non the less, but i have to say a 25 y.o wingman is better than a 32 y.o wingman.

Divert all attention to Phillips Dees. Forget Smith now he's obviously having second thoughts, hearts not in it  get the player who is hungry for a premiership(s).

2019 Games: 24 Averages: 23.8 disposals, 5.3 marks, 2.2 tackles, 2.8 rebound 50s, 3 inside 50s per game.

and only young

Impressive highlight reel.

Pies would probably entertain a future pick as they’ll be keen to bank points to cover Nick Daicos bids, which are expected to be pretty high.

So, with Smith out of play, much of our attention may now turn to Phillips.

What do we think it would take to pry him out of Collingwood?  As they are happy to trade him to free up some room, would a third rounder do the trick, or would they expect more from us?

We'd be doing Collingwood a massive favour by getting Phillips' salary off their books. Surely they can't ask for more than a third round pick.

Its looking like a salary dump to me.

We could swap TMac with Phillips +/- whatever is needed to get it done.  They have the same manager which should help negotiations.

Problem with that Luci is that we are trying to get rid of TMac to clear cap space for Ben Brown. Collingwood, as we know, have even worse cap issues than us.

PS. I’m all for getting Phillips though

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
