would take their future second round pick

Agreed, unless they offer a half-decent player in return.

Giants will most likely get pick 28 for Corr, which of course will be eventually pushed out to 30+ after academy bids and further compensation picks for Daniher and Williams.

I'd imagine that's what we'll be after but Giants will play hardball and only offer 39.

As an alternative, could we offer Preuss + 23 for Caldwell?

Edit: Giants have clearly identified him as a need and intend to play him as a starting 22 player. As he is contracted for another 2 years, we shouldn't be accepting anything less than significant improvement in our draft hand or a best 22 player ourselves. Otherwise keep Preuss and starve GWS of an opportunity to improve their list.

2nd Edit: Giants are also likely to receive pick 29 from Adelaide for Hately. Might make moving on a second rounder easier for them.

Yes I think the Corr compo which will end up around 32-33 will be the likely trade deal. That’s fair business and should get it done.

Preuss was a good backup but he should be playing as a number 1 ruckman now. Good luck to him.

The original trade was Tyson to North for Preuss and pick 60-something from memory.

While it will go against the view of some, I'm expecting market value would be a 3rd-rounder for him, and anything better than that would be a bonus.

While I understand GWS' need for a ruck, he's still not very good.

Josh Kelly and Jye Caldwell hopefully

interesting they have come out so early. A good sign and they would know MFC are reasonable to deal with so we sold get it done. mid second rounder would be a good return, but a better option would be to snag a young talent off their list

Please keep this bit quiet. They don't know and we don't want them to know.

39 in unders.

The Corr pick looks the go. Failing that their future second.

They’re losing players so can’t see them including in a deal. Plus we should be targeting proven players and none of Caldwell, O’Halloran fit the bill. They may become good players but I want a player for the here and now.

If we trade Preuss to GWS, we should insist that Caldwell is part of the deal. They have lost Corr and Davis is nearing the end, so there could be some interest in Oscar as part of a deal, if we are looking at moving him on. Oscar would probably appreciate more chances to play as well.  Losing Preuss leaves us vulnerable if Max goes down, so it has to be a win for us to release him.
Preuss would be number 1 ruck for GWS, so if he goes there we need a best 22 player for us.
BTW there are more Caldwell types out there than Preuss types, so while not as good a footballer, Preuss is extremely valuable to clubs that need his attributes.

Daniels, please.

Giants first pick is 39 as far as i can tell.. is Pruess worth more than 39 simply because of demand and he is contracted.. would GWS part with their first pick in the draft for him? Very interesting negotiating to be done. IMO he is worth slightly more than 39 which could end up mid 40s by the time it gets to us. They may get a second rounder for Caldwell.. could we demand that?

We'll want a player.

No interest in a pick for a mature age ruckman who will be first 22 for GWS.
Would be very interested if we could get Brisbane involved for a player like Witherden.

#whispers Jye Caldwell will nominate St. Kilda, with negotiations continuing on length of offer. A great get for a young, building Saints...

Cya Preussy

Good luck at GWS - do me a favour, please? In the act of trying to spoil a mark from Mumford, do a Jamie Shanahan and whack him in the scone

Cheers

He also wants to leave.

3rd round.

Very disappointing that Caldwell has nominated Saints.
I would be unhappy if we took a low pick, unless that pick has been agreed as the trade price for a player we want from else where.

Anything inside 40 would be huge, an upgrade from a pick 60 in to the 45-50 range seems more likely to me.

If we were to get a player out of GWS we probably would've heard about it by now.

Why is that?

Because the vast majority of player movements are organised well ahead of time and then haggled over during the trade period.

14 teams are done for the year and there's already 40+ names lined up

You are right that most player movements are known before being made official, however there are exceptions. I don't think there was any speculation about Tyson, Bugg or McKenna prior to our trades with GWS. And with them being our trading partner yet again, and with the Giants forever in a state of players being starved of opportunities, there is every chance a fringe player could be involved.

If it's a player, I reckon they'll try and push Langdon unfortunately. Would love Daniels

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 2 Jacob van Rooyen

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
