everyone knew gawn was crocked; it's why he missed a succession of games towards the end of the year, and he clearly couldn't jump properly

gawn on one knee >>>>>> any other ruckman in the competition

Story in today's hun saying Gawn played last 6 games with knee problems and may need surgery. If we let Preuss go for anything less than a great deal we are nuts. Gawns knees are always a risk we should have good cover for him.

I'm getting a little nervous about the 'talls' being touted as on the table:  Oscar, Preuss and TMac.

That is nearly all our tall depth!!

We need a genuine back up for Max.  Kids or make shift stand ins are fine for a game or two but not if Max has a lengthy injury.

We also need an experienced tall fwd to help Sam during games and to learn from.

A solid case can be made for any of Oscar, Preuss or TMac being traded but we still need depth and experience.  The talls we have waiting in the wings:  Bradtke (Rookie 0 games), Jackson (6 games), Petty (6 games), Brown (Rookie 75 games).   Hardly sufficient or appropriate depth.

I haven't heard us being linked to any 'talls' but will wait for the trade period to see which talls we have on the list.

We've only had 1 round of delistings from a bunch of clubs that missed finals and I'd have no issues if we replaced the 3 you mentioned with Shaun McKernan, Wylie Buzza and Majak Daw.

The rucks and key defenders in particular should bring better names than that as well.

Majak Daw is worse than any of that trio. He has been at North for years and could not get a Regular game in this A terrible year for North. His game stats are terrible.

I'd be in no hurry to sign him but he did become a half decent key defender prior to his you know what, which is the reason he barely played this year. If he passed a medical and could train with the club to prove his health I'd have him as key defensive depth ahead of Oscar on the basis that he's not Oscar. There will be other key defenders available in the state leagues or once good sides start cutting their lists.

That's not depth that's [censored]. Trade them all. We need talent not hacks. Regarding Preuss we have Weideman, Brown and Tomlinson as capable depth ruckman along with Bradtke. The chances of both Gawn and Jackson going down are remote.

You've named 3 guys who aren't ruckmen as capable depth ruckmen - 2 of which don't even like contact or contested aerial situations, the other is our full forward - and a 20 year old basketballer. Unless we think Bradtke has come a fair way we'll need to replace Preuss. Rucks get injured, especially older and younger ones. A 3rd proper ruckman being required to play is not remote.

What?:o

Why the hell did we play him this year, of all years?

I can just imagine Demonland if we didn't play him and announced finals were not our goal in 2020.

If this is the case he should have NOT played.

Presuss should have been in and played his role. This is why we got him to the club in the first plance FFS.

Goodwin was desparate during the season with multiple player selection changes and now  seems he is still desparate with players leaving.

Goodwin prob knows his job is on the line big time and is acting like it.

This could be a massive fail for the club and yet again we the supporters suffer as other clubs go past us.

You had to say it Werridee.

So first off let’s not panic about Max saying that he’s seeing the surgeon, there are many levels of severity when it comes to knee issues and surgery taking place. It could be a clean up or something equivalent to him not training for a week.

Having said that it does show the precarious nature of trading out ruck depth that can perform well enough to compete (even beat) opposing number 1’s.

I still say we play a little hardball, if other clubs want him then they should offer us a good trade deal.

This was in the article regarding OMac today: “Preuss has two years to run on a contract at Melbourne” so that means we have him signed for 21/22? If so definitely play hardball, it’s maybe a little unfair to Preuss who would want regular senior footy but if GWS want him they will have to come up with a decent trade.

Interesting tweet by Fantasy Freako:

Hitout-to-advantage rates in the past two seasons:

Gawn 34.0%
Preuss 34.0%

Ranks =2nd in the AFL behind Andrew Phillips (34.6%).

Pruess will go, no doubt about it, be interesting to see how tough we are in negotiations. He is a wanted commodity, i genuinely hope we dont give him away.

Then go and get the best ruckman in a state league or country league as back up, get them with a late pick or PSD pick. Its not rocket science, there are some great prospects out there.

Yeh, interesting. So hit out rate to advantage is the same. Preuss spends more time forward than Gawn it seems. I have a feeling Preussy boy might have a few suitors.

Ruck Contests:

Gawn 2020: 57.9

Gawn 2019: 68.2

Preuss 2020: 33.7

Preuss 2019: 31.9

Yeah for sure, there will definitely be no shortage of options for him and his ruckwork has been quite good. He's now done an apprenticeship under two of the best rucks around so could be a real asset. I don't blame him at all if he moves on now to get more of a shot. Doesn't seem to have the agility or tank to be that 2nd ruck or ruck/forward so can really carve out a good career as primary ruckman.

Good call on the ruck contest numbers too.

Can't remember which article but they mentioned GWS have doubts about his endurance and ability to cover the ground. Reads to me that they're trying to downplay his trade value. With Hately requesting a trade to the Crows today, I can't see them willingly including Caldwell or O'Halloran in any form of trade.  We should be pushing for a second round pick in my opinion.

What does Preuss have to do with smith, who is an unrestricted free agent. Not like we'd have to trade for him. Hope we don't go for a 32yo anyway.

Just quoting the article mate:

"Making Hawthorn's interest in Preuss more intriguing is that Melbourne is courting triple premiership Hawk Isaac Smith, an unrestricted free agent, to fill the wing role opposite Ed Langdon."

Hawks trade Sam Frost for Preuss. ?????. Sorry !!

What can they offer??

Isaac Smith might get a 2 year deal with MFC and walks as an unrestricted free agent.  Screw the dorks !
