the only thing we THINK we know about clarrie is he is a bit unsatisfied with 2020

well whoopee doo, he should feel dis-satisfied with 2020 and that in itself should be a good incentive to improve things next year.

so, what's to be dis-satisfied in 2020

    his own form was down a little rather than improving as expected (that's on him)

    team performance was very inconsistent and team just missed finals

    the whole covid, hub, travel, uncertainty thing was very much a major disruption

so, who wouldn't be a bit miffed with 2020, hardly a year to celebrate on many grounds. doesn't necessarily mean he blames others or the club or has a big fallout with anyone. Hopefully it just acts as motivation o be part of a better mfc next year

so, if all this bs is just based on clarrie being a bit miffed about 2020 then it's not much to go on. I would expect nearly all afl players this year would have much to complain about re 2020....a very unusual year!

If we continue to miss finals, we will lose talents like Oliver who play the game to win. For far too long we have had players who seem happy to just be an AFL footballer, and lack to desire to be the best and win at all costs. Oliver is one of the competitive types who wants to win, and if we continue to lose he will want out. It's not as if he's lazy and coasting, he leads the league in contested ball, so he is putting his body on the line to win. 

Some will argue that Oliver should get better and then we'll win more. That's partly true, he has potential to become even better than he is already, and therefore push us to more wins. However, he can only do so much, and if you're a competitive type stuck in a losing environment, you'll want out.

Unfortunately some just want to turn a blind eye to the situation and thinks its all rosey within the club. Oliver has always has been a big competitor animal from his days when i was with him at the bushies. Just craves success and wants to win at all cost. 

I'm not buying into the BnF stuff as well. Individual stuff has never been his thing (unless he's changed). Its the want to win and gain success has been his biggest ambition as an athlete.

I mean we haven't exactly beaming with success in his time with the club.

That may be fair enough, but why isn't he in conversions with Geelong, or Richmond? 

I don't really understand how Carlton have come into the equation, it'd be the definition of a sideways trade.

For all we know it could be a Richmond or Geelong?

I mean let's be honest, he's not getting traded this year at all. He's contracted and thats simple. But this time next year if we've missed finals again then I think its fair to say Oliver will be taking call from the big clubs.

So true. Some here think we are or are about to be a successful club and it is just injuries, the hub or a assistant coach or two that has stopped us succeeding. We are neither super talented or super competitive across the ground. Oliver has a burning desire for success and challenge.

Then if that's the case then the MFC Should put an extension to him NOW on top money and lock him away! Why wouldn't they do that unless money is tight. If it is the case and the club have snookered Viney away instead of Oliver, not only have they been shortsighted and negligent but risk a lot of supporters just saying bye bye no more memberships and support is right out the window! Starting with me! 

We have a once in a generation player dual B&F All Australian potential 250 game plus player who will only get better and we are stuffing around! Do the deal now lock him away for 5 years or more and really put this issue to bed once and for all!!

Of course the club is trying to sign him up, now.  Maybe its his choice to not sign up yet.

Not sure he knows it as fact but I’d be completely shocked if the club isn’t looking to lock him up long term.

No I don't. 

But the club has a long history of signing up good players a long way out from expiry of contract, often more than a year in advance.  So based on that history I would expect the club is negotiating with Oliver.

Nor do I know if he has chosen to put off talks.

Just saying it may not be the club holding things up.  It could be as simple as all are waiting for the sal cap to be known.

Let's just put it this way. If we haven't re-signed him by Round 1 I'll be worried. It will also have a destabilising effect on the club. So Oliver and his management ought to think about that.

Well, I don’t mind that we have a player that is hungry for it: I don’t think that he is a selfish player, but I do think he craves team/personal success. 
 

Of course, I’d love him to sign up for 5 years today, but I don’t blame him for waiting to see what happens. Since finals, we have finished 17th and 9th, with some quite good and also pretty poor performances. That’s two years, without a sniff of finals. For a player of his ability and ambition, he’d want to make sure that the next contract he signs (which is going to probably be the biggest of his career) is going to be with an organisation who will get him as close as possible to a flag.

We need to prove ourselves this year.

The B&F thing may have been blown out of proportion, I have a feeling if he was annoyed it wasn't so much about where he placed, but who placed above him... not speaking with any real insight - just a 'drive-by' observation.

Tracs improvement may well be the benchmark for players to aim but that is more on an individual level.

Voss would bring a new dynamic to the group which would be a great result IMO.

I like your thinking.  Like many youngish coaches he will be better second time around and learnt development under Lethal.

We had a sniff of finals this year - and Clarry only managed 15 possessions against the Bulldogs and was a part of the midfield which let the opposition trample all over us. We are on the cusp of success - which will come quicker if he gets better.  

There’s nothing to see here folks. Move on.
