I don't mind them trading both. but they should just be handling it better.

Treloar to the Suns does look like a good deal for everyone. but if Treloar doesn't want to go, he doesn't want to go.

I'm staggered how clubs sign up multiple big names and still keep their cap integrity. Clearly something fishy happening and Gill is doing this:

It's a tactic.  Clearly the quiet talk where they asked him to explore his options to support his partner in QLD didn't work so well with him saying he was staying.  So now they have to make it untenable for him by publicly announcing he isn't wanted.

They want him to ask for a trade.  Then they can 'sell it to members' and the public as his choice and take the moral high ground.

But Treloar isn't playing their game.

On the public front Matt Randell (ex but recent Recruiting Manager) outed the meeting of Buckley and Treloar where he was told Coll 'don't want him'.  Eddy hasn't denied that meeting and has been remarkably silent, which speaks volumes.  Probably in damage control.

Coll is rapidly losing control of the narrative and it is getting horribly messy.

Treloar is showing great courage to take on the Coll establishment.  I just hope he comes out of this ok on the personal front.

Not just this, but AFL actually let their salary cap cop, Ken Wood, walk when they shed staff.

I would have though he'd be the guy you would want on board with the changes flagged (even if he was on decent coin).

So who's doing the overseeing of trades and cap space during trade week to ensure 'integrity', and I use that term lightly...

Perhaps I'm being overly cynical here, but the AFL want their licensees to turn a profit and continue to be (or become) stable businesses in their own right. My bet is they'll be relatively strict with the reduction of the soft cap in FD expenditure and fire a lot of AFL staff (already have), but if the clubs pay a bit outside of the cap to keep their best players, I reckon the AFL will look the other way in difficult times.

I hope this isn't the case AF as it will advantage the clubs with deeper pockets.

Looks like North have recruited a WB rookie as he has been on the rookie list for 2 years and if you reject any offer from the WB to either go on the rookie list for a third year or onto the main list you become a delisted free agent and are able to sign with the club of your choice.

Anyway looking thru clubs rookie list a couple of names popped up. Thoughts.

Brody Mihocek

Sydney Stack

Tom Atkins

All have been rookies for at least 2 years so either have to agree to stay on rookie list for a 3rd or be upgraded to main list. Or can reject there clubs offers and become a DFA.

Was decent as an outside mid at underage level, but has struggled at AFL level. Averaging 7 disposals in 2020, and 13 across his 3 seasons. First round pick a few years ago so clearly has talent. Wouldn't give up more than a 4th rounder for him now though.

Taken with pick 10 in 2017.

Pick 10 was our pick that we traded to Adelaide as part of the Lever deal. LOB was the player I wanted us to pick too. I think we ended up alright. He has a bit of James Strauss to him (elite kick at under age but never displayed at afl level)

If, for whatever reason, the I. Smith deal falls over and we still need a winger, would take a good look at O'Brien if he didn't cost much in trade & salary.

I do wonder why it hasn't worked for him at Carlton (competitiveness? winning own ball?), as they certainly could use his type in midfield, but has that speed/endurance combo that would help give us the outside run we currently lack. His kicking as a jnr was quite good too, but wasn't quite there in his games for the Blues.  Maybe he just wasn't able to settle at the Blues.

Those clubs will sign those players to their main list rather than risk losing them though. Maybe the bulldogs were ok with that defender leaving under this rule as he's not that good.

I haven't gone through the entire thread so might have already been mentioned but what about Jack Higgins?

Whether he's the right guy or not, I don't know but we definitely need more specialist small forwards.

Jack Higgins has been mentioned a few times on here and is officially wanting to move on from Richmond. He's contracted though so trade will need to occur. Is he a good target for us? He's a forward/mid with decent pace and skills so suits our needs you'd think....

I think he could be a very good fit for us. He sees himself as a mid who plays forward, has an incredibly high footy IQ with good skill (and we can't have enough of that type). He's a footy head who just loves the game and would be a pretty good locker room presence as well.

The big concern is whether his health issues present any risk in terms of his future performance, but i haven't heard anything that suggests it will, the big issue is the time out of footy and missed development time.

That probably discounts us then. We'd need him to play forward. We're already going to have a number of mids playing as forwards, we probably don't need to add another. If Higgins was prepared to play forward only, I'd take him.

We also need more midfielders with good kicking skills and dash. He could rotate midfield, wing, forward and it'd make us a better team IMO.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
