So, just curious - is there anyone who still questions the value of recruiting Steven May?

For the record I was never one of them.

But I think most of that camp were more concerned about him getting his body right, and not about his capabilities once he did. I don’t think his talent was ever an issue.

What a great first quarter.

Kicking straight makes a difference and tells the Saints, they have to work hard for a win. Then we let in. Cmon dees stay switched on and desperate for the whole game.

The Saints did not want it, except for a couple Steele, Hill, their full back. Nullified them well.

Those turnovers, get our field kicking right and we are on. We don't use the angles well enough.

Liked that we tried to control the tempo.

Magnificent backline, reading the ball coming in, making a spread, hitting  the mark. Great confidence and cohesion builder.

Thought Tomlinson played his best game for us.

Langdon just keeps going.

Our stars stood up.

Too many passengers again.

We can win close games. Fitness levels are great.

C'mon forward line start punching goals. Those crumbers need to get their hands on the ball .

Weids looked to be double teamed most of the time. The other forwards have to lead the opposition away from him.

Loved the exuberance of the club song. Thought it looked like a team going places. Don't drink the bath water.

They can play with a little less pressure in Cairns with that win.

Stay desperate, hungry and hard willed Dees.

When they got hold of us, it was because we backed off the gut running.  As soon as we lifted this rating, they had nowhere to go.  We actually showed that they are a one trick pony, and you will see other teams go to school of that.

Thought we had a system that help up.  Our basic skills let us down often, but the effort got us back into it.

Spot on. There seemed to be fewer cameras and so more down the ground shots and wide camera angles and you could see the zone structure much better.

That system why i say leg speed is over rated. Sure it helps to have some leg speed but if there is no space to run into it doesn't matter how fast you are.

Take Butler - a big part of their model is getting him in space. I reckon their first goal was the only time he was allowed any space to run into all game.  Same goes got Hill. No space to run forward into.

As i said before the game, with the outs you a can take as read who didn't work hard enough last week.

An advantage for us tonight is though traeger park is pretty big is longs and relatively narrow. I have no doubt narrow grounds help our zone.

Out turnover s were poor, as were theirs. They all looked pretty stuffed though as it was over 20 degrees i think.

Ironically though it was our accuracy from set shots that was the real difference.

To be fair Pates, if May has 5 fewer decisive touches down back, we lose. I wouldn’t go overboard on Goody out coaching them.

I’m not a Goody basher but setting up a plan and 2 blokes winning you the game isn’t a coaching master stroke for mine but very happy with that win.

You're kidding, right? May was apart of the team was he not? He's part of our defensive set up. Our defensive system completely smothered their only game - run and gun off half back. That's Goodwin's plan to beat Ratten's one dimensional plan. The players executed, as they did against Collingwood.

I can see Rivers becoming an absolute star of the competition. He can defend and use it very well.

But the thing that stands out for me, and goes way back even to pre-season games. The now 5 game veteran has made some kicking errors, but in no way shape or form does he let that get in his head. He'll turn around and go in just as hard, and again bite off another hard kick, this time to perfection.

Can't remember which preseason game it was. He kicked a howler. Next kick, within a minute, pinpoint perfection.

Got ourselves a goodun

Did Goodwin make enough changes for everyone's liking? Or did he have nothing to do with the win? Just thought I'd check in with the 'sack Goodwin' mafia on here

I’m not a Goodwin fan Moon but it was a good win and we were lucky to have May and Truck.
As far as Goodwin goes let’s see what happens next week and the rest of the season before we get to excited.

I love listening to Steven May talk. He's honest, to the point, gives praise to his team mates and opponents. Wears his heart on his sleeve. Will be interested to see what he does post career

Good questions by Ben as well. He's a good find by the MFC media dept

Sure. Not getting too excited DOx, just getting tired of the kicking he gets. FFS, we are currently on the 8!!! It's frustrating, but it's building.

Big Maxy, what a great captain.  When asked in an interview what does a big win like this mean, Max's response was that he was  "I'm just proud that we can put a smile on some people's faces back in Melbourne".   Maxy has such a great connection with us supporters with his down to earth, easy going approach.  Love ya Maxy.

yes I had the same feelings regarding his comments.  He cares so much for us.  Fantastic.

May's post match words were great as well.  He seems like a great bloke.  As well as an awesome player.

Tough tough win.

I'm absolutely no fan of Oscar McD.  I think he is absolutely terrible.  He's the slowest reacting footballer Ive ever seen play.  Boggles my mind.

Rivers should be in each and every week.  Just a very good young footballer.  So play him and he'll be a bloody star.  Its friggin obvious isn't it?

2 blokes won us the game

The coaching saved us from a 10 goal loss and gave those 2 blokes the opportunity to win

Haha right mate. Didn’t realise this was the olisik forum. Run along buddy, let’s keep this about the dees thanks.

And yet he still says nothing about the game. No comment. Just that we won.

So pleasing to win a game like that. Toughed it out and stuck to the plan

May awesome. So pleased for him.

Rivers will be a gun

Nice goal by Weid in the 3rd. Liking what I am seeing from him

Salem was clean tonight

Also big shout out to Dougal Howard. Hold onto the ball as long as you like champ. Thanks mate

Thanks for checking in.  I'd still sack him tomorrow.  Do not rate him.

That is all we can ask. If he is doing something productive he isn't a liability, we have enough of those and they stand out. Spargo doesn't stand out, so he can't be doing much wrong. I got time for the kid.

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

  • AFLW REPORT: Western Bulldogs

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
