I’m not making any changes to a defence that has conceded 44, 35 and 37 points in the last three weeks. Albeit against ordinary opposition, but you can’t ask much more than that!

Pruess stiff if Gawn is fit. Thought the longer the game went the better he was.

Also, our percentage over the last three matches is 241.38%. On a real tear. Long may it continue.

Been really enjoying having an in-form May in the backline. I no longer have to stress at EVERY opposition inside 50.

His pressure around the ball isn’t good at all  but he does chime in most weeks with a sneaky intercept when teams underrate his aerial ability and closing speed. The spoil and tap back to keep the ball in play yesterday was the latest example.

Obviously has to improve his pressure but if he can hit the scoreboard and be a good target up the ground he’ll be making a good contribution

His pressure on the scoreboard is about our best. Lest we  forget how crap we were at that last month.

I think both Hannan and Fritsch are in danger of losing best 22 status. Fritsch causes problems in the air for opponent but gee his finishing is ordinary.

Spargo is in for the time being and maybe ongoing and adds a great decisin maker up forward. And he can kick

Ive stopped looking at the stat sheet when it comes to Vandenberg.

The fear that he puts into opponents cant be measured by numbers.  They are always watching their backs when AVB is in the vicinity, and his teammates walk taller because of him.

I’d like to see Preuss stay for Tmac if Gawn is back. Tmac is totally shot and I’ve said it for weeks. 
 

He has 0 assets right now other than he’s a smart dude but not footy smart.

I think they are different types of players, BBO.  I could see Bedford replacing Kozzie, but it would probably be a high flanker that would have to go out for Bennell.  Harley is high on ‘Silky acts’ and less on ‘pressure acts’.  Kozzie slipped a lot in the conditions yesterday, but gee he gets to the right places a lot.  When it all clicks...  I would only rest him if it is on fitness grounds (he doesn’t come up).

Harmes made plenty of mistakes but in general I thought he was better and could be close to settling at half back. Do you disrupt that now or do you keep backing it in to work?

There's 2 places we can use Harmes and then fill his half back spot with Rivers or even try Chandler:
1. I'm still less than convinced by Jones even if he played well, he just doesn't have the speed or change of direction to effectively pressure. Crisp left him for dead several times. 
2. Sparrow's doing a job but found it tougher against a good midfield. Harmes could play forward/tagger and be set for Bailey Smith or JJ.

Food for thought but my expectation is they leave things the same.

Otherwise I'll continue my weekly concern about Tomlinson as a key defender. Just 1 intercept possession today. He's not winning the ball and he doesn't use it well enough to be a clear cut advantage there.

The things I always find a little confusing about the changes thread is its often not clear if the changes are ones posters think goody will make or ones they rhink he should make.

Of course it is my issue, I'm not knocking anyone.

But I like how this post makes the distinction clear.

And for what its worth I agree 100% with all of it.

I also think they will go in unchanged.

Give maxy a good break (And they may have no choice). Hopefully cherry ripe for the saints game, one he will be desperate to play in given it is the Alice. 

Preuss will benefit from another game and we need him fit and ready if needed. Not a forward though so can't replace tmac.

Thought he worked super hard again. His contests inside 50 were important and he battled hard in the ruck.

Sure he is not clunking his marks but the issue for him is his lack of mobility, speed and agilty. But I have no doubt that is fitness/injury/condition related. He needs to be playing to address those issues i reckon.

Not playing maxy means they can run tmac in the ruck a bit more too, which helps.

Sparrow played a bit in defence and a bit forward. And centre. Classic utility.

Jones as pretty good I have to say. Another utility that provides goody some flexibility. But slow

Harmes was better. George on the outer made an excellent point on the podcast that playing him as a hard tag on a gun mid, say Sidebottom, robs goody a mid spot. With the need to rotate viney, tracc, Oliver, Brayshaw and spollow through that doesn't work. So hb it is. And he performs or rivers gets his spot.

Wasnt required to do much and didnt do much ok. But Tomlinson is just not a defender. Was on miocheck and signs were concerning. Reads and reacts slowly and gets caught behind. But I think he'll stay in defence against at least the  dogs. But not in a key post deep.

Ultimately I'd like him to take Jones's spot. Though he's want to increase his tackling pressure.

I have to say I really like may as the deepest key back. I reckon he is a bit heavier than last year and so deep back is a good fit (as opposed the more mobile hb role they had in mind for him last season, and where has played thus year too). Looks super comfortable there.

And if they keep May deep I can't see omac coming back in, unless we come up against a team with two really good key forwards like west coast (neither lever and tomlimson are good enough on one one).

Melk had his best game of the season i reckon. Body language much better. When weed, kozzie, friiter and spargo (who was terrific) are up and about he becomes a very dangerous forward. 

I noticed vdb was the only player in the song with a tracksuit top on. Hopefully he us not injured. Injury is the only reason he goes out. Of a very low bar, his kicking was better. And there is no stat for the fear of god.

I hope Sparrow  stays in the team.  He didnt get much of the ball but that lead, mark and goal in the last quarter was very nice.  

Also kicked a lovely goal in traffic last week.   He will explode soon enough!

Agreed Buck, somewhat different types. 

However, I'd like Bennell back to gain form and confidence. He is a classy finisher and will add a different type of pressure. Kossie is the future no doubt but he is young bodied and inexperienced. A rest and reset might just help him produce more outcomes for his flash and dash. Also with Spargo filling a similar role, we can afford to rest him.

Preuss was ok but gives nothing around the ground and is not a forward.

All true but it worries me carrying a player who is not100% and leaving out a player who is,seems to send the wrong message to the group

Agree. Kozzie had one of those "could have" games. Was buzzing around and came close to doing some great things but just didn't work for him. Only change for me is as above unless Max gets up.

He has been OK and will struggle to get back in while we are playing like this. 

But even if just in glimpses he has shown qualities that we don't have in any other player. He has time and space with the ball,  and finesse in his disposal. He adds a bit of silk that we otherwise don't have.  

Hopefully his body holds up, and he learns to trust it, such that he can impact games with those qualities in the future.
