Prediction: we trade our future first for two picks in the 20s

I'm gunna get smashed for this, i can see it coming, BUT. would we consider trading Max Gawn?

I understand it seems like a horrible idea, but he's 30 next year, and a F/A, he's got a history of injuries and could hit the wall faster than people think

if you traded him now you might be a chance to get a good deal from a side like GWS who'd be desperate for him, could potentially snag Josh Kelly and Jeremy Finlayson, or something like that. 1-2 very good players at the right age, and back in our young rucks to come on.

I am not advocating for this but i do think it's worth discussing, because as i said, he may only have 1-2 good years left and if we aren't going to push for a premiership, he's got a huge amount of value.

You'd need players, not picks, so I suppose it depends who you're trading with. If it's GWS are Kelly or Finlayson a net win versus Max? Probably not. Kelly and Williams? Maybe.

That would be a bridge too far for many supporters.

Don’t mind the idea. Max is having a decent season, but individually, he’s not winning us games.

Some better system around a lesser ruckman would still improve us immensely.

Yep you will get smashed for this, I said a similar thing a few years ago when Kelly was out of contract.

I would still consider it particularly if we could get Whitfield. I think it could be a win win situation for both clubs but I don’t think it will happen.

Particularly because we have Preuss, he may not be as good as Max, but we are not losing too much ground there in pure ruck terms

quinton narkle to take melkshams spot at HF probably for a 3rd rounder or future second (assuming we think we'll climb)

definitely an upgrade in terms of disposals, energy, still a good user and can find the goals and roll through the guts. Allows us to move on hunt and hannan and leave nibbler and melky in the magoos until the end of their contracts or melky retires 2021

Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but I don’t think MFC will be an easy sell to decent players, after these past two years. I get that money talks, but most players in their prime (whom you’d think we’d be chasing) are going after success.

My biggest thing is unless you have an elite midfield like West Coast or GWS ruckman are overrated. Carlton have the same number of wins as us and have some no name ruckman on about $100,000 a year.

If he was not captain, you would listen to offers, but its a no for me.

A team culture killer? sorry i didn't realise we had a successful winning culture.... we have no culture to destroy, we're a mess.

Especially after we killed our captains like James McDonald and Brad Green in consecutive years.  We should have learned from the Neeld debacle not to destroy the captain.  Whatever internal culture we had was quickly destroyed in those f-ups

We demoted the captain at the start of this year, it’s not a long bow. And as you say we have a history of poor treatment.

A young Todd Viney.  Still it’s a very crowded list of inside mids. We need outside fast and skilled runners in trade and Draft.

Kelly alone is worth far more trade wise than Max

Won't happen mate

Isn't Williams a FA? Not sure

Wing: Josh Daicos (Unsigned) - was brought up on 1st crack that the Pies won't have much to offer. Could swoop in. Elite wingman this year. Elsewhile Polec brought up elsewhere.

Reportedly on the move from Crows: Kyle Hartigan (UFA)  - this is a very interesting one given Levers best form was with Hartigan as a 2nd tall

Narkle or Cockatoo as an outside mid to throw into the mix. Preuss to trade.

Could a matched Viney RFA bid or Brayshaw trade be involved in getting Adam Saad ?

Could Viney get to the Blues to help their midfield and we could prize away Curnow or McKay?

Could Brayshaw get us Taberner or their first round pick?

Forward line has to be chasing one of Finlayson, Ben Brown, Peter Wright or unlikely Daniher.

Williams may well be a FA. Kelly based on his contract size is probably worth more than Max, but Kelly is a good kick, can accumulate, have a feeling he's plateaued though.

Our top 4 forwards have kicked 64 goals total this year,

in 2018 our top 4 forwards kicked 150 goals.

three of our 2018 top 4 forwards are still on the list, and 2 played on the weekend.

we've gone so far backwards offensively since 2018 it's not even funny,

We need forwards, a gun small forward, a big bloke who can take and mark and the best forward craft/forward coach in the business are absolute musts for us.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
