Dwayne is just annoying. Kingy is ok but I wonder why he never went into coaching. The way he analyses the game makes him sound like a coach.

I bet some actual coaches, such as Neeld, Bolton, Leppitsch, etc, sounded awesome when talking about numbers and strategy.

I think a rotation of Trac and Gus in the midfield with resting HFF would be fine, Trac can be dangerous in the Fwd line but cant play midfield full time imo. juggling 5 of them shouldnt be too hard.

Funny though the game turned when Gus was a genuine mid

I'm not sure that is correct. Gus was in the 1st bounce from memory...

The game turned at the start of the second half when our pressure increased and Oliver started to break out (and get a couple of holding frees which stopped Crouch from hanging on to him)..

Gus was definitely better in the 2nd half but its a stretch to say our resurgence was from Gus being a genuine mid IMO.

Ding. Thanks for your score advices. Really appreciated. That must have been some last quarter, it even slowed Dland criticism down.

Maybe it makes a lot of difference when the umpires change sides.

Favourite bit was that little dweeb, McHenry I think, running around continuously trying to rough up Gawn and a few others. Went to do it to May and May just sat him on his [censored]. The look on May’s face was priceless.

Exactly.

I'd have so much more respect for the analysis of guys like Kingy and Garry Lyon if the had actually coached and in the modern era.

Do like the commentary of guys like Roos, Parkin and to some extent I didn't even mind Mick Malthouse from this perspective.

Being a Dees fan living in Adelaide is hard until your team play twice in 5 days! What a shocking game to watch for 3 quarters last night from both sides, the umpires and the crows fans who literally have no idea about the rules of football. Happy we turned it on in the last.

Watching Jackson after he hits the ground from a jump for a ruck or marking contest is amazing, he literally sprints as soon as he hits the ground, looking for opportunity. Good to watch, he has an appetite to compete.

Onwards and upwards to the Roos. Hopefully my head recovers by then........

Had no idea who Crocker was till last night.

He is now up there with my most hated players from other clubs.  Ruffs up Lockhart who is 11cm and 7kg smaller(who to his credit held his own), crunched May in the head, pushed Hibberd in the back then turned, kicked a goal and pranced around as if they had just won the premiership.

Faux tough guy.  Approaching thug status.

For some reason I was reminded of the Grade Six bullies I used to know while watching the Adelaide players.

I think the crows came out to be ‘tough guys’.  We responded in kind (and got in the umpires bad books).  Some of their he-man efforts were poor.  I loved May looking out for Lockhart - shows what a leader and a champ he is.  So many of their off the ball shenanigans not penalised until the last.  When Oliver wasn’t being held, he just cut them apart.  I think the crows ran out of angry-juice and that was essentially all they had.

They are an absolute rabble.  Pulled us down to their level for the first three quarters (not all that hard to do) but we had enough to break it open and turn the last into a training drill.

Oliver is man-handled without the ball every week. I'm glad he finally got one or two of those frees tonight.

...

Tackling our receivers at bounces before the ball comes to them seems to be a standard tactic against us to counter Gawn's dominance but a free is only rarely paid.  The club should take this up with the AFL.

I missed it in the game but I just listened to Eddie and Dermott pontificating on AVB's shove in the back. The AFL want to stamp this out! This is not a good look for the game! Dermott- We used to have respect for our opponents, we didn't do stuff like that.

Excuse me? The outrage over a little shove in the back is way over the top. Plus the hypocrisy is disgusting. It was okay in Derm's day to just hit or step on people.

If they did it back in the day they would've been sat on their a... so quick.
These days they can be smartarzes without fear of repercussion.

I agree  it should be stamped out even for far less aggressive actions than AVB's.  But the hypocrisy of the commentators is sickening.  I'm not so much referring to what they did in the past (you could forgive that if they have seen the light), but the fact anytime niggles start increasing they get so excited. Like a bunch of schoolboys shouting 'fight fight'.

I have to say it again

Lever, ball falls through his two hands, bounces up off his chest, and is grabbed by Himellberg...

Paid a mark....  WTcF is going on out there

Thought I was seeing things when the umpire paid the mark. It's pretty bad when the whistle blows and you hold your breath because you have no idea what the decision will be.

I can't believe the hide of Brereton to sit there unchallenged passing judgement on the relatively tame actions (compared to what he has done in the past) and just lie about having respect for opponents and never doing that sort of thing. It's a sick joke. Plus he wouldn't make the same comments if it was a Hawthorn player. It just makes me so mad. The quality of commentators is getting worse every year.

Interesting to hear the commentators go on and on about AVB’s push and how it needs to be stamped out of the game, but when the little guy from Adelaide charges and bumps May well after the ball goes out of bounds they celebrate it. Kinda sums up the commentary all night really. I think they wanted blood and were very disappointed Melbourne won.

That plus their mate (and Adelaide board member) Ricciuto was riding the boundary

Interesting take from down at West Lakes:

  • Getting a good run from the umps
  • We're being gifted the free kicks this game. They really must want us to win.
  • We are getting the biggest umpiring ride
  • Lucky to get away with that one. Umps are getting involved
  • Melbourne relentlessly going for the head
  • Tex has been horrendous .
  • And the umpiring has been diabolical, not protecting the player and their interpretation of the holding the ball/improper disposal rule is at an all time low.
  • So many head-highs going our way because of the hatchet jobs by Dees players.
  • Definitely getting a ride
  • Melbourne have tried their hardest to get us back in this game
  • Stats all even except frees 16 - 8 going our way.
  • Brace yourselves for some shockers in the even up this half.
  • We are being absolutely reamed by the maggots
  • Is Neal-Bullen a slack-jawed yokel? Always has his mouth wide open (well he is from South Australia!)
  • **** off Riccioto. You played a huge part in the mess we currently find ourselves in
  • The day Roo is seen as persona non grata at the AFC will be a good day
  • Could we trade Jones for Sparrow?

And this:

amazing what happens when the umpires aren't so one-sided. sorry but that's the only reason the 2nd half turned out the way it did

In the last qtr when Jackson took the ball out of the ruck took a few steps facing directly at goals and kicked beautifully he looked very Nic Nat like.

Not saying he will be a Nic but he will be a joy to watch in years to come - Gisele like in his movements.

With the sling tackle the AFL want it both ways.

on one hand, this season (and last night) a player can be fairly tackled spun 360 degrees without disposing of it and NOT called for holding the ball. But the tackler is now expected to manage the safety of the player they tackle while they contort to either dispose to advantage, look like trying (when they’re not) or simply deal with their momentum. It’s become unrealistic for the tackler.

example with the Nibbler sling, tackles him properly through 180’, then Crow player tried to dispose (to kick) throwing his body into the sling and exposing his head to a concussion... yet the tackler is held responsible.

In my opinion, if the AFL wants to reduce slings, they should reduce the time a tacked player has before the umpire decides a free or ball up.

Good call

Players are now so adept at lifting their arms and disposing of the ball, the tacklers moved on to pinning the arms and then slinging them to the ground.

I said this last night, can't have it both ways.

Is Gus the new OMac ?  or what.

Once a bloke is in the gun nothing he does will ever be good enough. Yes....he was in the middle at the first bounce, but spent a lot of the first half off the ground.

However when he got going in the 2ns half he "synced with Oliver and Max AND provided silver service down the ground. Makes a difference !!!! (Back to 2018)

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
