That Fritsch effort at the end really pisses me off. The umpire CLEARLY warned him he needed to get the ball back to the Lions player and he still carries on like a smart [censored] for no reason. Happens way too often in the AFL. Just give the [censored] ball back. You have nothing to gain from that.

He stuffed around with it to make sure we could get set up behind the ball, but yes, he went a step too far and it hurt us in that situation.

If they’re gonna call that one against Fritsch then pay the four previous ones where Brisbane held it up, they have gotta be consistent.

fritsch did nothing wrong, all players are told to hold it up as much as possible. The ump just decided to be a bit whistle happy.

28 touches, 10 tackles, 15 contested possies and 5 clearances.

Might have missed a target or two in the conditions, but he worked his backside off for us all night.

Has hit a ceiling will not ascend to elite level without cleaning up his skills big time .

Not the first time poor goal kicking cost us a game but this one hurts. We dominated the 3rd and butchered way too many opportunities.

Fritta should be dropped for that 50, inexcusable.

Plenty to like though,  we can match it with the best in the comp.

He thought it was his mark, or he was completely confused

The second is for Jackson.  Tom Mac is going to find it hard to get back into the side with the kid playing the way he is.  Love his athleticism and you can see his confidence lifting

Jackson will be a star. He is a suberb athelete and tries all night. Weids started the game on fire but seemed to lose his sizzle in the second half. Hannan no impact afyer a solid game last week.

I no we say it often but this time the umps truly were shocking with no rhyme or reason all night.

It wasnt just the non decisions it was also where and when the frees were paid.

Still we missed too many give mes im afraid.

Damn.

How can a 6 game veteran be overrated?

Have a look at his posting tonight - the ol' coq is having a troll I think.

It was a hot game in the wet tonight. It looked every bit like two top 8 sides going toe to toe.

We were our own worst enemy in terms of fluffing chances, but if we continue to bring that level every week we can and should put our name in the hat at the end of the year.

Here's a question. Why does the Lever score review need to stop play? Why can't the ARC review it behind the scenes and if it turns out it was a behind, then bring it back.

The goal umpire should have called it a mark from the start. The score review system is making goal umpires second guess themselves.

Spot on, titan.  Couldn't believe it really.  If it's a point then they just add on the score as we would have kicked it out straight away.  That decision hurt us as we were away down the wing.

Well done Fritta you [censored] spanner

Calm down Dazzle, Weid 3 misses, Bennell 2 misses, one 10 metres out, Kozzie, Harmes and Landon all straight in front. Kick one of them and we win.

Good teams kick those clutch goals.  Weid has to take his chances.

Brayshaw on the cusp of getting dropped.  He is a shell if his true ability.

It's Curtains if we don't beat the Power Thurs night.

Went missing in the 2nd and 3rd quarters.

We had a crack but when it counted we shivered in front of goal.

Melk has ice running through his veins, clinical tonight.

Viney massive along with Salem.

Terrible camera work.

Wouldn’t stop there. The commentators were terrible also. The half time and post games didn’t even mention Melbourne.

Viney was immense. We should have won, but for the missed set shots and Harley’s.
We are a whole lot better than we looked after round 4, which is a reason to be cheerful

Because they are incompetent.

15 secs of fame mate. Needed to get involved.

Brisbane's intensity and 2nd & 3rd efforts outmatched us ... until the last quarter

We left our run too late and our kicking for goal was an issue today as well.

A game we should have won.

Pickett is vastly overrated.

He’s young and has time, but he’s definitely being overhyped. This was his output at underage level - looked flashy and exciting, but ultimately had low output. It’s why I wasn’t keen on him at such as high pick. He looks exactly the same at afl level, flashy but contributes little. Hopefully he learns to get to better crumbing positions, as he missed opportunities to crumb 3-4 goals due to flying when he shouldn’t have or being in the complete wrong position.

Jackson on the other hand is getting to the right spots and with more strength could become a weapon. Really pleased with his development so quickly for a tall guy.

Our mids got a touch up through quarters 2-3, but ruck the umpires cost us the match at the end. Absolutely corrupt [censored]. The club should stand up and demand a please explain.

Also, why does Clarry not get more free kicks? He’s held at nearly every stoppage but never gets a free kick when warranted.

You’re kidding aren’t you? That review call didn’t need to happen it was never going to impact the result.  A [censored] disgrace

I totally agree that went beyond a bad decision to a process the AFL has implemented that pretty much cost a team a game. We were out who know where that would have led. Shamefull. As for Dees just another chapter in an ongoing horror story.

We’ve lost to Weet Coast, Richmond, Geelong and Brisbane. And we find ourselves having to beat top of the table Port to keep our season alive. Tough comp, but we have to start winning some of these games.

Lack of polish from the dees  makes hard work of every game but I agree end of the day Weid and harley cost us the game today with inexcusable misses.

Hannan will continue to frustrate. One good game three bad. Brayshaw and harmes are horribly out of form.

The goal line review also should not have been called until the next stoppage in play. Ridiculous.

I am without a doubt a worse person for supporting MFC. It goes to show that you don't have to be that good to be around 'it' this year but how many times do we lose these close ones!

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
