Melksham was improved and whilst his lethargy to chase is frustrating he and Harmes played a strong defensive role swapping on Harbrow between midfield stints. I expect that Melksham will get the defensive job on Sicily next week so no chance he wont play.

That's been the problem with MFC for decades playing kids who are not developed to AFL standard ether because of Talent or heaps of injuries rather play experience.

If Smith is good forward he can smash the door down at training then he's ready

Because it's about getting a specific amount of work in to him, each week. The process is THAT refined. It's not about the context of meaningful or meaningless matches.

It's not just about 80% time as well, within the time spent out there, there will be metrics around top speed, acceleration that he needs to hit (and NOT go over). In a 16 side game vs a bloody explosively quick Tigers outfit - I'd would have erred on the cautious side as well.

Coupled with that (if we take it to be true) is that he was asked to work on some things defensively, he ticked that box and he is straight back in.

Remember, it's not just Goodwin who makes the call, one of the best in the business (Burgess) will call the shots from a load management perspective.

Hey jumbo - I get what you're saying.  Brown was recruited as depth and nothing more.

However, have a look at the Hawthorn defence.  They have some big boys down there in Chip, Frosty and Sicily, and I think we need at least two tall, stronger type players who can create a contest.  While Brown is not necessarily 'big', he brings experience, height and a good understanding of how to play as a forward to the side.  

If Tom has to miss then I have no problem bringing Brown into the side, especially against Hawthorn.  He might not 'win' us games but he will certainly help to keep us competitive.

I pushed for the experiment to continue (even though I was very happy with what Oscar did last night and he more than justified his selection in the side) because I see what he can bring to the side - he is strong, athletic and in the back line we can keep it simple with him.  While he has made a few errors, he certainly didn't have any bags kicked on him and I thought it was worth persisting with.

I'm not sold on him as a forward, though.  His only claim to fame there is a four goal haul in a pre-season game.  At least he gives us some depth at the minute if we need to call on him again.

As I don’t have Foxtel and my normal watch spot was off last night because of the lockdown I have not seen the game.

As you all know I have never been a big fan of the Weid but I have been asking for weeks why he was not getting a game as we were crying out for a KPF and guess what he plays last night and kicks two goals, if he had been in the team vs Geelong and kicks only one we win the game. It is well and truely time to give him a number of games because at his age it is time to find out if he is the future.

By all reports he played well last night and I am very happy to say I have been wrong.

He will be in against the Hawks and I hope he buries them.

No watch the reply, Langford was on his own hence why Gawn made the tap, Jetta was standing next to Rankine and not goal side. Ranking took off and left Jetta at his feet, no body contact nothing. 

Langdon was ready to receive the ball until Rankine came flying past and intercepted the ball, Jetta was no where to be seen.

That's on Jetta, not Langdon.

Agree. I am worried about Nev as age seems to be getting him. He was never quick, but got to contests and could negate his opponents. He is slower now and struggling. I think sadly he will struggle to be in the side soon. Just on Gawn’s tap, while he was superb yesterday IMO he should not be tapping the ball close to the pack near opposition goals. It is just too dangerous and he should be belting it our way to clear the area, which gains ground and gives us the chance to break it at least force a contest and bit further out from opposition goal.

If not, the argument for Brown vs Smith is a tough one 

I'd go with Brown because we need someone leading up as that target and someone with a solid work rate. Not sure how much Smith would run up and down and be able to do that. 

Brown is also a pretty reliable shot for goal. Who knows that Smith is like in this area

Agree mate, hes been a fantastic servant of this football club, but he looks cooked unfortunately and when he's barely giving offensively let alone beating his opponent,  then he's in trouble.

Would like to see Tomlinson at centre half forward - he is tall enough and mobile. I think he offers more than Brown or Smith as a forward.

If TMac doesn't come up I think Tomlinson is the logical replacement. He can swing between mid and forward and he played a great game against Hawthorn in the Marsh series.
