After the high of 2018, last season is the most disappointing I can remember followed by 1994. Jeez we were exciting that year, do yourself a favour and get your hands on a copy of ‘Demon Attack’ if you haven’t seen it or need a reminder.

I wrote this season off after round 1, our poor performances still irritate me but the whole season is ‘meh’ for mine.

1998 deserves a mention...

I mean we do have so many to choose from

2001 ( A Space Odyssey) We didn't even make the Finals....

That was a real killer for me...

You know it’s bad when the club is prioritising players misso’s over actual squad members as seen when selecting who travels to the hubs. If I were one of the Wagners I would walk away right now and be livid.

He doesn't know what he's talking about.

That's stock standard Olisik though.

Was said yesterday we were only taking 33 players to the hub so some players could bring there Misso’s instead.

Imagine young Corey Wagner being told ‘sorry mate, Vineys misso took your seat, see you in 5 weeks’.

2019 deserves a run in the Top 10.  Regardless of circumstances, hugely disappointing year after the 2018 Prelim.

Abso-[censored]-lutely.

I also think this year is mostly exceptionally poor, because our team, despite the obvious holes, is playing nowhere near its potential.

I personally haven't quite recovered from R23 2017. The year was overall positive, but in terms of disappointments that season is right up there for me.

If I were one of the Wagners, I'd be doing anything I could to not break a contract that was going to set me up in a good direction for my post AFL career in a year or two.

2017 made my angry the way we gave up on the year

2019 i was just resigned to it by the end of the season; i'm not angry anymore, just disappointed

2020 i want to see us win but i think we're miles off it so this year doesn't even come close to those two previous years

A telling very poignant game to our future for me was round 23, 2016 when on Roos farewell game against the cats we lost by 111 points. Our performance was even worse than 111 points suggest.  It was like 186 lite revisited for me and an incredibly disrespectful WTF performance that gave me the impression Roos tenure might be a failure, something was still NQR at the club and questioned the character of the playing group and leadership. Further extremely nightmarish  performances to end our 2017 and 2018 season and capitulation of 2019 season is confirming to me we may be a basket case with little hope for the the future. This season is now looking like a right off but if 2021 is just as bad I am prepared to move away from this club and footy in general permanently. Maybe we are a soulless football club that treats supporters like dupes and if we fold I might not care anymore.

My concern is not just this year but the next 5-7 years. A lot more pain ahead.......again.

It's a fair concern, although we have far more talent on our list than what we did in, say, 2013.

Either Goodwin makes some inroads this season, or hopefully our next coach can do more with what we have.  I think a large chunk of the frustration is that we, as supporters, know we are capable of much better than our current output.  Under Neeld, we knew we were rubbish and we couldn't do much about it.  Now, we can.

I'm hopeful that Goodwin is the man to do it as I like seeing us in a stable position, but if he's not, then someone else gets the chance to do more with this list.

What was wrong with ‘98, we went from last to prelim final? Are you confused?

We should have made the Grand Final that year, but the fixture screwed us by making us play North, while the Crows got the easier game (I think against the Swans) even though we rolled them in the first week of the finals.

I wouldn’t add to the years of disappointment. Plenty more to pick from

Of course not.  I loved that season.  Just making the point re: the finals fixture.

We should have won the Cup. I went to all those finals

Adelaide were gifted that one

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
