Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

That's why I choose not to watch the show, HT.

We have quite a simple life rule in our household, and that is if you are going to whinge about something, what are you going to do about it to change it.  In this case, I'm not interested at all in trying to start my own TV show (possibly more to the point that others wouldn't be interested!), so the simple solution is to take the action I have.

Actually, Chazz has many options available. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, letters to the editors of newspapers, even Demonland, are all forms of media open to Chazz and anyone else to express their opinions.

One big difference is that in some of these forms, there is no true editorial control, whereas whatever is printed in a "real" newspaper or broadcast on a licensed TV channel's program actually has to meet some standards (although we could argue about whether those standards are appropriate or adequately enforced).

So if a "lefty" says something that I don't agree with, does that mean I have to jump on one of the "righty" platforms to respond?

To be honest I don't watch any of these infotainment channels but I assume it would be the same as a "lefty" given a right of response on one of the Sky news programs. All of these are privately owned networks so there is no compulsion for anyone to give equal time to the "other" side. That's why it is so important to keep publicly funded independent services and not gut them like the LNP is doing with the ABC.

Totally agree mate...

It provides a public service that the other networks can't due to ratings and revenue pressures.

Just one example is the work done by the ABC during the recent bushfire disasters saved lives.

The ABC deserves to be gutted as it is the only one who has a charter to provide balance, but stubbornly refuses to do so. It used to be a great media outlet back when i was a kid but has become nothing more than a Green-Left propaganda mouthpiece. It also seems to go out of its way to push the most critical viewpoint of Australia.

The Project is a great fit for the ABC come to think of it.

It always amazes me listing to Sky News commentators endlessly bleating on about the neutrality of the ABC (or lack there of in their eyes), yet Sky News doesn't even pretend to be a fair and neutral presenter of news.  Listening to guys like Paul Murray, Andrew Bolt, Mark Latham etc endlessly bleating on about bloody lefties etc.

I think it speaks volumes to their lack of intellect.

As a paying customer of theirs, I'd really like to remove Sky News from my Foxtel subscription and redirect those funds to a genuine news service like the ABC, perhaps I should write them a letter - would be interesting to see their response.

That's why I have no interest in watching The Project.  Hellier can be amusing at times, but is cringeworthy when not.  He knows how powerful the Collingwood FC and it's head honchos are in the media and communications areas, which is where Hellier gets his bread buttered.  He's not going to ruffle feathers among the CFC power-brokers.

And Aly?  From the very few snippets I have heard from him, I think he uses his position on the show to cram his opinion/agenda down our throats, while very rarely covering all angles, or at the very minimum, looking at it objectively.  The Lumumba story is a classic example of that.

As a maturing nation and society, you'd think that beliefs leaning towards right wing - as with left wing beliefs - would be tolerated, just because these are the opinions of the thinking man. Centralist considerations would be applicable here, too, if matters were to prove to be wrong and harmful to others.

The rights to challenge points of view are gratefully more prevalent now, as well; this is another sign of a maturing society. Does this assist to create a more unitarian environment?

What is not so pleasing is the growth in unreasonable alienation and intolerance for beliefs alone - whether these be political, social, cultural, sexual, racial, et al and infinitum. The passion with which those extolling intolerance, prejudice, overt criticism and/or distaste on such matters is merely a stage of their own innate ignorance of which many are exceedingly proud and retentive.

It is not a blast from the past, it is perhaps a shallow depth of perception. I struggle, as well, with some issues where my overt rejection is highly questionable; for example: most things to do with The Filth Football Club and the state of footy umpiring to advantage, these days. Hence, I await illumination on positives for these latter two elements of my own prejudices and perhaps many more of which I am not aware.

Unsubscribe Balls. Getting rid of Foxtel once Kayo was available was a great move. Saving almost $100 a month too.

I know Kayo funds go to NewsCorp but at least it's only $15 a month (once I split a subscription with my dad and sister) instead of $120.

Just as an aside, the ABC is more than just a news service. Whether its budget is sufficient or not, I have no idea, but I sometimes wonder about the costs of running multiple digital radio channels and whether anyone is actually listening to them. In other words, maybe (and maybe not) budget savings are possible without negtaively impacting its news service.

While this thread has gone off the main topic (which I definitely contributed to), it does make the whole Lumumba story somewhat intriguing.

You've got someone (Lumumba) raising serious racism concerns in one of our country's most recognisable brands (the AFL, and in particular the Collingwood Football Club), at a time when racism worldwide is a major headline.  Then we've got a TV program (which is meant to be a current affairs program), that traditionally are happy to investigate "popular" issues, willing to shelve (or somewhat dismiss) these accusations?  Why?  Have they dug deep and found nothing?  Are they too worried about their own individual reputations and employment prospects if they dig too deep?

Now we learn that Collingwood, on arguably one of the biggest football stages in the history of the game, giving a public show of support for the #BLM movement.  While it's reported to be player driven, they still have the same coach and president that were in charge when HL made these allegations, the president in particular having prior offences on the very topic.

It just doesn't make sense to me.  Part of me hopes that this has been investigated and there's a "nothing to see here" outcome.  On the other hand, if something has happened to HL and it's being easily dismissed, especially by programs like The Project, then what hope do we have moving forward of stamping this thing out of mainstream society?

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
