folks complaining about the fwd line selection, is there someone waiting in the wings you would have selected??  we are clearly low on tall forwards. I personally think with the below fwd line we can score sufficiently

Bennell T Mac    Melksham

Kozzi    Jackson   Fritsch   

Add in Petracca, Jones and Hunt.

I reckon that is pretty dynamic and hard to match up on. all can mark strongly. Jackson debut so we cant expect much.

Before Milkshake got injured he was looking great and T Mac kicked 6 I think and then got injured.  Have faith!!

Darling is 191 and 87 kgs which is a fair bit smaller than the two boof heads at Carlton.

Exactly what they are. I would back Omac to easily account McKay. Lever when playing one on one footy has been badly exposed. I fear this will happen to him if matched up on either Casboult or McKay.

I don’t have as much confidence in omac especially one on one as u do but let’s see how it plays out. 
 

For our sakes I hope we have gone with the right selections for once.

DJ he is in the second game of a new three year contract. If he fails this year there are going to be some very silly looking people running the club including the Chairman and the GM. If he was to fail miserably this year there would be no excuses as the team is very much his selections. It has changed substantially since he took charge.

Failure this year would Mean we have to endure him till the end of 2022.

Failure which resulted in Goodwin being removed at the end of this year should See  the entire board and GM  stand down.

God is too horrible to think about.

You got it exactly right DD re the backline having only the two bigs. Well played. 

I share your concerns about the forward line. But i think benell will make a big difference in terms of delivery and I like Jones forward for the same reason.

 think the footy dept want to get a measure of where we are, Re matching up against their list to form our future strategies.  We will likely only get this match  to gauge ourselves against Carlton's, this year.

So I think we have picked this young team to do this,  and also to shakeup the expectations of some, a bit more senior,  players.

Interesting My Favourite Martian IMO it has nothing to do with that - this is the most talented team on paper we have picked for a long long time and I suspect other than AVB it will be really hard to get into this team this year next and beyond (except for injuries touch wood). - no excuses we should beat the Bruisefrees by 10 goals even with shorter quarters Fritz will kick 4 and Harley and Kosi 5 between them

It seems the FD have totally lost confidence in the Weid, they have replaced him with a kid who has not played a game since playing last year in the under 18’s. Only a miracle will see the kid play a good game as a key forward. It looks like Watts all over again.

Rivers & Jackson must have trained the house down to get picked!

At our abysmal worst still managed to beat the Blues last year. Hopefully with a fit list to choose from you we can do it again!!

Looks like we’ll try Jackson as a key forward this year. It’s an experiment and must make Weideman question his future at Demonland. Interesting to see this play out (!!!!). I think we need Weid to see the “light “, get tough and get in.

The team and list is in perpetual motion.   A rebuild is only after a total gutting of the list and culture.

 

All clubs lists are growing and slowing,  constantly,  so the median tide is looked for to measure ourselves to see where we sit,  and what we need...  where we rate. the information is really important to know our direction towards becoming the best,  and winning our next Cup.

Its definitely not the best team we could pick,  to win this game.  It is the team we see as our future setup, even with a couple missing out.

Risky decision to play 2 debutants and second gamer in Kossie. Still, it’s a good sign that we have drafted well given the kids are in the side so early on.

Also risky to play Harley for a different reason. It will be a massive win for us if he can recapture his early years.

Hopefully Jackson has improved over the last few months as a forward. I would have played Weideman, who is more of an aerial threat, but good luck to the kid. 

Happy we picked Smith. His athleticism is off the charts. While we look short down back, Max will drop back and help. 

Hunt was a surprising selection but I like him more than other small forwards because he can at least complete in the air. My guess is he’ll play a negative role on Docherty. Another point in Hunt’s favour is the shorter games. (This goes against ANB.)

Lockhart was stiff but how many very small defenders can you play? Jetta and Salem are better by foot and rightfully got a game. 

The biggest question on the result is how we negate Cripps.

We've struggled with "connection", and I wonder if that is part of the driver being the "mid sized" forward line?

Round 1 we went short. ANB, Bedford, Spargo and Kozi together didn't work. All too small which makes it a bit one dimensional. 

This time it looks like the focus is TMac as the tall,  Kozi the small, and the rest as medium forwards: Melksham, Fritsch, Jones, Petracca, Bennell, Jackson. (I've added Jackson here because even though he is tall he won't play like a KPF given his mobility and lack of strength).

This makes us more flexible. There is a bit of marking ability, and skills and speed when the ball hits the deck. We'll be a bit more flexible in the forward 50, which may help if the connection isn't working.

I think its the first time our list has real depth,  and now we can play off players who are experienced and tough, against the new breed skilled kids,  who have the old players covered for disposal skills.

He keeps getting selected as an emergency though. I'm interested to know how it plays out. Without a VFL it'll be hard for him.

well there is never really a right answer binman when it comes to selection. there's usually always more than one way you can get the job done, but whatever way they go I just hope it leads to wins or we'll soon be back to the drawing board again.

yes i'm hoping the likes of Bennell and Jones will help us with that kick inside 50 this week. not sure the forwards will have all that much cohesion though, as they would haven't played much together and we cant really expect much from Jackson in his first game, which could possibly have a knock on effect down to the likes of Fritsch again like it did in R1 with Brown doing stuff all. I guess Hunts job might be to fast lead out of the square as a hit up option but also to try break apart the oppo defence a bit, while the likes of Jackson and Fritsch stay deeper. small things like that can make a difference, so fingers crossed.

Melksham was a bit quiet R1 too, if he lifts and hits targets it will also make a difference. but I've sort of given up on our ball winners hitting up our forwards, it just hardly ever happens. if we bomb away again too much into the forward 50, we'll lose the same way we did R1.

The speed in our forward line is greater than Richmond's. Hunt, Bennell and Kozzi are all lightning. 

We also now have run and speed on the wings.

It might not click this week but we have the right team now for our chaos footy.

Strong side I like it. Hunt was a bit of a surprise though. I thought he was finished maybe they want some heroics like the last time they played. Good to see them make a stand on Hibberd he's been ordinary for far too long, hopefully it's a wake up call for players like Jetta who was poor against West Coast. Lockhart very stiff to miss.

I think Lockhart had a slight injury scare.i'm guessing Precautionary.

It makes sense to bring in Hunt. We have a few bulls who just win the footy. 

We now have serious pace around the ground to exploit that.

In my 30+ years watching the dees I've never seen so much pace in a side.
