Ah your delving into territory well covered here, does the club have a naturally negative culture born out of the club or the fans? I think you may be going a little far with the spies idea but there are a lot of people predisposed to the worst possible outcome. Hate to say it but it is rather difficult to avoid when you've been following the Dees for a while.

Carlton is a good first up team, they are improved (so we shouldn't be taking them lightly), but really with the team we have available we should be winning. I can't help but feel that winning this year will depend on mental strength as much as ability, who will be able to adapt to the new normal quicker? How do you lift players when there is no atmosphere to get people "up"?

I would love nothing more than to see us come out of the blocks and smash the blues away.

Anyone know what's happening with TV coverage?  I don't have Foxtel or Kayo and in the original fixture I was either going to the game or could see in on FTA for all but one game.  Is this game going to be FTA?  Under normal circumstances I think it wouldn't be but I would go to the game.  I'll be [censored] off if I have to pay a subscription to see it.

14 day trial of Kayo is free. You could time it to see 2 games

Its $25pm otherwise

Pittonet as Carltons number 1 ruck. I’m smelling Gawn having a monster afternoon and lead the dees to an 80 point win.

Just watched the first quarter of the West Coast game and boy was Langdon's poster from 30 meters out was costly. We would have been in front if he goaled instead West Coast kick 4 goals in 3 minutes game over.

Do our players have the jitters in front of goal in general? I mean the chances we created in the first quarter really should've yielded at least two goals from the quarter but I just don't have any confidence in anyone right now (very negative attitude I know).

While I'm confident with this game against the blues, I think we need to make sure they don't get their tails up early. As you pointed out in your post @WERRIDEE we didn't capitalise with scoreboard pressure and cost us dearly.

16min Quarters are going to work against us, never really felt like we start any quarter strongly they always ease into it and burst hard after 8-10mins.

on the flip side this might have us see a few of the young guns get a game with endurance taken out of the game.

Personally the war of attrition is my favorite aspect of footy?!

Then again how many times have we been done in red time for 20min quarters?

NZ just dropped all social distancing requirements.

Which Australian  State will be the first to do the same? All games in WA perhaps??

Nuh, McGowan will be the last Premier to drop the social-distancing laws.

Now that we are within the last week before the restart of this season, I'm finally getting excited about footy again.  It's definitely been a weird few months as a supporter.  I was itching all summer for us to get back into the season proper and start to make amends for 2019 and despite the Rd 1 loss to WC, I'm still holding out hope that we can get it back together and have a decient 2020.

But when the virus stoped games, I actually found it quite easy to almost completely lose interest in footy, until we were given a firm timetable for restarting games again.  Asides from the increasingly promising signs from Harley Bennell and Max's hair cut, even the chatter on Demonland has mostly been a boring regurgitation of gripes about forward entries and reliving 1001 historical games, seasons and drafts.  Not singling out anyone in particular about this, it's just amazing how difficult I've found it to find any of these conversations interesting or entertaining without having any current footy events to speak of for relevance.

....Anyways, looking forward to the weekend as I recon we will beat Carlton convincingly, if not smash them out of the park.  GO the MIGHTY DEMONS!

Everyone has an opinion on Goody and after the round 1 loss to the Eagles he would have been feeling for his head. However if we win the next 4 games or most of them the mood will be different.

We are like the stock market of the times which is up and down with  volatility at it's best. I will still support and ride the good with the bad i will show faith and hope that this week is the start of good things to come for our great club.

To beat Carlton would be a good start.

100% one match at a time. We just need to get our season going, get that first win to get some confidence.

I just had a really vivid dream where whilst other stuff was happening, the Melb v Carl score line was live throughout. most of the numbers were very specific..
Q1 - Melb 0 Carl 3

Q2- Melb 3 Carl 8

Q3- Melb 63 Carl 21

Final- Melb 138 Carl 38

An exact 100 point margin.

Forget the Eagles games. We were told an hour before the match the season was cancelled.  Really it should be replayed as  the other 8 games were played under the assumption the season was continuing.

In any event,  there are no excuses for us not to have a great season.

Instead of a return trip from Perth to play GWS in Round 2,  we have  had a 3 month break and will play Carlton.    With a Perth trip out of the way we are no chance to be part of any Perth hub if it happens.  So Round 1 may be a blessing in disguise.

Can not wait to see Kozzie lighting it up,   LJ's debut and the return of Bennell.

I expect crowds will be back much sooner than people think.   Lets go Demons.

Yes! Will the shorter quarters eliminate Deetime?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
