he's been doing this thing every week during the downtime; reckons that the dees one is one of the hardest he's had to look at as we've not had many stand-out players or periods of time over the journey

nevertheless, not a bad side

B: Laurie Fowler – Sean Wight – Alan Johnson
HB: Brett Lovett – Gary Hardeman – Adem Yze
C : Stan Alves – Greg Wells – Robbie Flower
HF: Garry Lyon (Capt.) – David Schwarz – Brian Wilson
F: Jeff Farmer – David Neitz – Allen Jakovich
Foll: Jim Stynes – Gerard Healy – Todd Viney
I/c: Max Gawn – Nathan Jones – Clayton Oliver – Brad Green

Coach: John Northey

they also teased that they've got a demon on the 'sacked' podcast this friday and that it's a doozy

Ray Biffen to full back for me.  That forward line looks really potent and maybe a bit too tall. Nietz to CHB and jako to FF and Robertson to FP.  A bit harsh on Hardeman though.

That’s the team. I reckon it’s a great lineup.  I will await Werridee to confirm. Some observations

- Full back was the hardest position.  Wight deserves the nod.
- Hardeman was an absolute champion and the standout choice for CHB
- Alan Johnson could be in the wing but that centreline is sensational

- Good luck stopping that forward line

- Gerard Healy was a star. He could have been one of our greatest ever players if he’d stayed.
- Northey or Daniher as coach, obviously

*Emergencies- Jeff White, Steven Febey, James McDonald , Russell Robertson, Greg Parke.
*Assistant coach - Neale Daniher

Play him (Hardeman) on the back flank he had the pace and skills to go with smaller players.

Reckon  also that Neiter should be our CHB as it is a bit small even with Wight or Biffen.

The forward line with Jacko at FF Stynes and Gawn in FP and last spot between Ooze and Greenie.

Neitz  and Lyon could change at any time and any forward could play in most spots other than Schwartz and Neitz in key  positions.

Prefer this:

Johnson S Smith Wight

Lovett Neitz Hardeman

Alves Wells Flower

Lyon Schwarz Wilson

Farmer Jackovich Healy

Stynes Woewodin Viney

I/c Oliver Jones Gawn Yze

Better balance at back, proven goal kickers at front and the best centreline ever.

Sean Wight was just as potent on the Fwd Line. Brilliant Fearless player

i would have him on the Interchange Bench

D Hughes at Full Back

Aaron Davey instead of Wilson.

Wight full back, the Biff was  a great Full Forward but he was as slow as a wet Glenferrie oval where he has nighmares about being full back on Pierre Hudson, only saved by his mate B. Bourke who broke Huddo's leg before he could kick his 19th goal in the first half.

Alan Johnson to back pocket, Yze to HFF.

What a team.

Both Alan Johnson and Farmer can both play the role Davey played,  but better footballers.  Both of them.

Aaron Davey, Russell Robertson  are extremely stiff to miss out on that side.

You think,   obviously you do.  Jakovich pushes Robbo to the reserves.  Both had reverse gears,  when it came to defence.  But at least Jako would stay on his feet longer, and had better 2nd efforts for the ball.

Ricky Jackson, all day long,  over Davey.

You are blinkered, mister. Biffin was one of my favourite Demons, but not as a full back. He was only about five foot five, most of his size in the midriff.

If you don't appreciate how Davey revolutionised the way football is played then I dunno what to say. I'd also add that your forward line is very big in size,  Davey's pace would make it perfect.

Also, Johnson was a wingman before he played B.P.

Sorry dieter, you seem to be wearing the blinkers.

Farmer,  aJohnson, and Willo are not big...  pace with Johno and Farmer,  both can play defensive forwards,  and farmer exceptional overhead.  More dangerous around goals than Davey. AJohnson just a brilliant tactical player. Can rotate back,  mid,  and forward, as a small.

Davey was very limited in where you could play him,  and he would struggle in today's game,  with the press and tackling, ruling the day.

But imo,  he can sit with robbo, bruce and green.

Yep,  I new I should have selected dHughes.  but wanted a bit more  old-fashioned  mongrel, in the Melbourne team.   Because we perennially lack those who will win at all costs.

Oh,  one I did miss was Grinter.  I think lFowler might give way for Rodney.g.

Yep, a fine kick was Grinter,  and a very handy player all over the ground,  and special skills to boot.

Laurie Fowler has to be in the team.

Three time Bluey Truscott B&F ahead of Robbie.

Fowler did the job every week.  He was tough. Determined. 140 games in 7 years.

Victorian rep when only him and Robbie were considered the only decent Demon players.
Played for Victoria in 1981 and then got cut by the Dees. It was Ridiculous.

I saw Grinter and Fowler.  Both were great blokes to have in the trenches.  But I’d choose Fowler.

Yep. Easy to forget just how good and how tough this guy was. I know Rodney was tough too, but he would never win a B&F.  Im going with Fowler. I also would have had Barry Bourke down back instead of Yze.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
