He’s TBC with a foot injury.

Yeah, but he was probably TBC the week before he was named in the practice match against Adelaide as well.  I don't think we are going to get any simple straight answers on the AVB injury front as the year progresses.

I’m not feeling positive about this. Maybe there is no news waiting for scans and diagnosis? Wouldn’t surprise me to see out for the year soon.

It’s a curse.  I’m not optimistic about the news for The Vandenburger. Hoping for the news that he needs a few weeks off. Also think Joel Smith is cursed and both will be cruelly cut down.

From Friday’s match report on the AFL website:

”The only concern for the Dees was foot bruising for hard-nut Aaron vandenBerg, who was left off the field after half-time as a precaution. Foot injuries have curtailed vandenBerg's career in the past two seasons.“

Really hope this is just a precaution and management only. He was looking good and dynamic in the games so far.

This post needs to be pinned and stuck in the 'Here's what MFCSS looks like' section

He can play, but against this weekend he looked ridiculously rusty. Hope he comes good and this is nothing, but won’t be holding my breath. Brutal on him if same problem.

Every year he plays in pre-season and breaks down again...says on the AFL website it could be 6-8....

We've not made a lot of big list blunders in the last few years, but IMO signing vB for 3 years while simultaneously ditching Dean Kent (who simply wanted more than 1 year) has been one of them.

Bad management to include four injury prone (spec) players on your list... KK, Bennell, Smith AVB. Sure you can make a case for each but the cumulative risk was irresponsible.

There's no hindsight here. The injury histories were plain for everyone to see.

If one of the four becomes a real contributor we will be lucky.

Kent is an average inconsistent player who could not stay on the park. We have his spot well covered.

Played 13 more games than vandenBerg managed last year, but sure...

And covered by whom exactly?

And we don't have inside mids like vB covered?

As it was a contact injury for AVB I was hoping it was not serious and unrelated to the issues he had before - but the delay in any update is troubling. Suggests there may be more going on.

Kent? Seriously?

He's not missed

Some serious calls need to be made on Vanders, KK, Smith future this year. Can't continue to carry these blokes who are just clogging our list year after year with long term injuries.

Hurts me to say the word "clogging" especially around Vanders but i love him as a player and just want him to succeed.

Missing the point mate.

Signed vB for 3 years. Ditched Kent who simply wanted more than 1 year.

It's at best, inconsistent.

I'm not saying Kent is a gun, I'm talking about the contract decisions based on both players outputs.

I'm not disagreeing, but aren't basing that a bit on hindsight? AVB had a brilliant Finals series in 2018, while Kent could barely get on the park for most of that year. The decision was based on output at the time. No one could predict what would happen to AVB afterwards.

We've let inconsistent players go and kept some risks.

Hopefully Burgess can keep the rest of the cattle on the pitch.

Pardon my ignorance but what provisions can we make for long term injury replacements?

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
