D4Life 2,584 Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 Assuming TMac foot/toes are okay I would throw him in the ruck occasionally when he is struggling in the forward line. Let him get his hands on the ball a bit, then put him back in the forward line! like the sounds if what we are doing in the practice matches: - Wings fixed with Langdon & Tomlinson, adding run, options & defensive cover. - Harder to score against. Backline standing up better with May / Lever playing, OMac adds structure, Jetta typically beats his man, Lockhart going well, with Salem, Harmes etc. - Small forward options with Pickett, ANB, Spargo & Bedford, medium forward options Fritsch, Melksham & Jones, bit of Petracca, only seemingly soft spot is tall forwards with TMac, Weid, LJ, & Brown ..... if just one of them steps up we’re looking good. - Ruck Max, fit Viney, fit Oliver, Petracca, Brayshaw coming good, Harmes, Jones as cover. Bring on round one, Demons looking promising! 3 1 Quote

He was on the ground for a long time in the foetal position with a Hawthorn player hovering over him. (Stratton?). It was visible in the background as play went on? Looked nasty. To Fritsch's credit he was ready for play next time the ball went forward. Couple of players from our side seemed to have problems with their eyes after the match....... Quote

Stratton's shoulder hit the ground first, he got straight up and the umpire who was right there didn't even pay a free! Must be a no-news day but I bet it will be played over and over this weekend and someone will demand the MRO penalises Viney under the apparent 'new' sling tackle rules. Wouldn't put it past the MRO to look like he is doing something, penalise Viney and proceed to ignore similar or worse tackles for the rest of the year. Shades of May last year... Any other team it wouldn’t be an issue. I hate the media. 4 Quote

Jetta does what he needs. People think he is a run and carry defender which he never has. I dont care if he touches the ball 8 times a game, as long as he's negating the best small forward which he does quite well. I watched the replay this afternoon and stick by what i said. He was poor. Against quick forwards like Richmond, Collingwood and even West Coast he'll get found out easily. Quote

At this point in his career he would approach a practice match with more than a degree of indifference, and I would not blame him for one second. Same with Jetta. Let's see how these guys play when it actually matters, because let's be honest, these games don't mean a thing. I think many senior players are cautions Re injury at this time of season, so this effects their output, either deliberately or sometimes sub consciously. I think he'll be fine when the real stuff kicks off. I do want to see Lockhart in as well, so maybe Salem off the bench.? Quote

Fumbled and disposal was way off, he's fitter than last year but his kicking ain't anywhere near where it was previously. Only pre season but the penetration he had previously doesn't look to be there. I'm a Spargo fan, he's got footy smarts and used it well with limited posession also provided good pressure. Lockhart looks a gem with the full pre season behind him 1 Quote
Damo 3,466 Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 I think Hibberd for all his work, just has no clue in disposing. He considers his options and always goes long to a pack. Reminds me of Brent Moloney. It always comes straight back. For all his possessions I think his days are numbered. And we dont look to give forwards many benefits, it is still coming in long to the pack. I often saw a forward waiting with 2 or 3 opponents for a long ball to arrive. G.Lyon was all over it. I have not been a big fan of his media work but gazza has turned into an interesting commentator IMV. 1 Quote

Not sure that's the best way to find form for a key forward. Surgery he had in July...he doesn’t even have to jump at the center bounces, just be a follower around the ground to get some easy touches and have some marking contests where he doesn’t have a key defender all over him. The forward structure isn’t perfect but Melksham and Fritsch both took opportunities. Tom didn’t look as likely. If he’s barely touched it by half time against the Eagles then he’s pretty much asking for a run in the ruck. 1 Quote
Damo 3,466 Posted March 7, 2020 Posted March 7, 2020 On the positive side, I saw better work by Spargo and Weid. I hadnt taken into consideration Spargo's reduced pre-season. I do really like Lockhart and Bedford and I wish I could distinguish them better! Until they turn to show their numbers Im not sure which one it is, other than if it is the back half its probably Lockhart. Quote

He needs to get the ball in his hands. TMac is a confidence player right now he is cold, his timing is out Quote
