PREGAME: MS01 vs Adelaide

Featured Replies

Melbourne

Game 1: v Adelaide, Casey Fields (4.40pm AEDT, Saturday, February 22)
Game 2: v Hawthorn, University of Tasmania Stadium (7.40pm AEDT, Friday, March 6)

Players to watch
Luke Jackson: With Max Gawn and Braydon Preuss sidelined with knee injuries, last year's No.3 overall draftee, who has been likened to Brodie Grundy, will get a chance to show his wares on a bigger scale than initially planned.
Mitch Brown: Just how the ex-Bomber fits in as a third forward-line tall will be interesting, or if he'll be considered to take his 196cm frame into the ruck given the Gawn and Preuss situation.
Kysaiah Pickett: Described as physical, exciting and fast, the small forward is a walking highlights reel. Is capable of providing the spark in the forward line the Dees need.

What's new
Acclaimed fitness expert Darren Burgess has been cracking the whip in his first pre-season with the club with the players running for longer; their recent documentary To Hell And Back revealing they covered up to 37km one week in November, which is more than they did in any weeks the previous pre-season. With Simon Goodwin admitting in the same documentary "we got our whole summer wrong" last year, there's been big changes to the way they've approached the fitness side of things this time around.

Adelaide Crows

Game 1: v Melbourne at Casey Fields (4.40pm AEDT, Saturday, February 22)
Game 2: v Gold Coast at Flinders University Stadium, Noarlunga Downs (4.20pm ACDT, Friday, March 6)

Players to watch
Chayce Jones: The Tasmanian speedster has been one of the stars on the track over the summer. Has added size and should get more time through the midfield in his second season.
Fischer McAsey: The sixth overall pick in last year's NAB AFL Draft has been turning heads during pre-season training with his intercept marking. The key defender could play in the early rounds.
Tyson Stengle: Kicked five goals in the club's intraclub game last weekend to put himself in the box seat for a small forward role. Only played two senior games last season, but the frontrunner to take the spot vacated by Eddie Betts.

Gawn, Preuss, T Mac, Petty, May all injured.  Sheesh.

Just as well we drafted LJ and signed Mitch Brown.

Does anyone know if there is likely to be a membership booth at the ground?

Stupid Question, but is this gonna be broadcasted? I miss the footy!!!

The answer to this is most likely yes. Someone probably knows.

But if you asked a question like. Will there be a membership booth at the ground? You may get the answer you're looking for. But I have no idea.  When does the footy start? Does anyone know?

Not having a dig, just hanging out for some footy

Actually can't believe the footy is back this Saturday.  Feel like it's only been gone for a month.

Keen to get a look at a few of the draftees and the young kids while getting through unscathed.

Thanks lads, I was too lazy to look up the horrible new AFL website

Out: Nietschke, KK, Bennell, Preuss, Gawn, May, Chandler, Brayshaw
Questionable: McDonald, C. Wagner, Petty, Dunkley, Vanders, J Smith
Doubtful: Hannan, Baker

FB: Jetta  Oscar  Hibberd
HB: Salem Lever Harmes
C; Langdon  Petracca Tomlinson
HF: Melksham Brown ANB
FF: Pickett  Weideman Fritsch
Foll: Jackson Oliver Viney
Int (from):
Backline: Lockart, Hore, J. Wagner, Rivers
Mids: Bradtke, Sparrow, Jordon
Forwards: Jones, Hunt, Spargo, Bedford

Rough guess at some kind of squad. It's hard to see more than 5 guys playing against Essendon on Friday.

The interchange line makes my head hurt and it's only Wed.

Doesn't matter though.  If the other five who don't play get a good run on Friday then it's still a win.  The more game time we get into the legs of all players, the better off we'll be.

The best time of the footy year is about to end.

Ah, don't be like that Andy!  The best is yet to come - frustration, anger, sadness, depression.  You can't tell me you've missed those feelings... ?

This latest incarnation of both the AFL & Official site are terrible.

Also the related Apps, and other content, extending to related sites/services. Been round the houses for yet another year getting my international WatchAFL subscription up and running.

Too graphically demanding on PC's.

Too much large imagery. I do not like it either.

Strangely one of the players I’m most keen to see this week is Brown, given our depth issues with KPF and TMac going slowly right now I feel like this is a big opportunity for him to show his worth to the club.

Gawn being injured also will probably mean we have to rotate himself, LJ, and Weids through the ruck throughout the match.

Bit annoying to see the line that Adelaide has a close to full list to choose from. I just wish we’d get some luck for once.

I hope they are not paying much.

Every year this preseason competition leaves us with a major injury or more to a key player or players. Who will it be this year?

The AFLW should be on a separate site.

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
