Don’t expect any money coming from the State Government. Victoria is so far in debt that it will take generations to recover from.

Maybe federal funding, but most of the money will need to come from private donations, MCC and naming rights.

Adam we would already have a good idea of the level of AFL and Government contribution based on the funding that other clubs have received for facilities. For all of their shortcomings, equity is a major focus of how State Governments allocate funding to professional sports clubs and there would be an agreed framework between the State Government and AFL for this.

While the Feasibility Study would include indicative costings to ensure the project is feasible from a funding envelope perspective these costings would not be detailed enough to seek funding and determine which party is responsible for cost variations for certain risks.

Govt’s  don’t stop financing even in debt. Yes they are more careful but you forget this is a community project as well.

Unfortunately he doesn't say who the 'stakeholder engagement' was with nor who approved the study to progress to the next stage. 

This is the survey Southwick has put online for residents.  https://www.davidsouthwick.com.au/survey/caulfield-racecourse-funding  It is fairly basic and the sort of survey one would include early in a feasibility study with variations for each type of stakeholder.  It could just be a pollie being seen to do the resident's bidding but who knows how much he was consulted during the process and briefed prior to the press release. 

A bit more info from Pert would help quieten negative reactions.

As I have maintained in my posts there are especially in this forum disappointingly posters just throwing darts.

There is level of feedback in major announcements and if they tried to answer every minor winge from D/Lers that their honest or mostly irrelevant concerns it would be a waste of time. 

Nothing in my mind from this forum leaves me with any doubt that this project won’t go ahead if it gets the next stage of approval  from appropriate stakeholders and a positive response from relevant funding authorities. 

I hope  this process is not dogged by negative and minor random thoughts every day till June 2025. Already many posters some in potential good will mostly can see their frustration or anger and comedic estimations time wise have been completely wasting their time posting remarks.

Two factors may include the reciprocal arrangement the MCC have with the Melb Racing Club based at Caulfield, plus us being listed as an MCC sporting section (I'm [censored] if i know what that actually means). Maybe they see a cash injection as getting influence into the planned development, possibly securing some spaces or facilities that could be utilised by MCC members on race days...?

It's an interesting question. I have read that they provide $1mill a year to MFC as an MCC sports section. As we know the MFC Admin is housed in the MCC I'm guessing at heavily subsidised rent. The MFC also have access to some corporate boxes. No idea what that deal is. I have no idea why the MCC do all of this. Surely not just because the MFC is called a sporting section of the MCC but maybe. Does anyone have any idea.

i appreciated the difficulties in completing feasibility and would hope that appropriate submissions to reach that conclusion will allow the business plan phase to be easily and quickly proceeded with to achieve the completion of our much needed facility.

I also hope that every resource of the club membership is now asked by the board to contribute and does so. I would anticipate that much of this contribution will be outside the considerations of the feasibility study.

The board do need to act quickly on their project as delay will merely increase costs and promote redundancy.

A trip to Caulfield would be much more attractive to potential recruits than the long haul to Casey.

My niece was involved in negotiations re new CBA deal as an AFLW captain - Cats have a distinct advantage due to limited travel. In their last flag year they trained less hours per week than other teams. Largely due to not having to sit in cars for extended times to get to and from training.

I expect to see the Home Base being built at Caulfield Racecourse to be the number #1 priority on the next Strategic Plan for the Melbourne Football Club.

Hopefully, the newest Strategic Plan will be presented at the next Melbourne Football Club AGM.
