He may have been wrong, but MFC Boards before and after him, got plenty wrong and I was on one of them, which against my vote and argument, sold our admin building in Jolimont Terrace, which today would be worth many millions of dollars.

Ross Mitchell, a Real Estate agent and brother of 3AW Neil Mitchell and I were totally opposed to the sale, but were outvoted.

A shocking mistake imo.

Agreed. I remember that building. Went in there a few times and actually got to speak to Hassa Mann. 
mistakes were made, by good people. But the Olympic Center was a serious mistake we are still paying for.

Our actual base of supporters still make up the highest percentage in the MCC and the least in the AFL reserve and that should tell you enough.

Geelong is a different matter. Lots of votes and multiple electorates. Labor and Liberal governments (think Bracks-Baillieu- Andrews) have thrown money down there.

Every single one of those areas Malvern, Caulfield, Brighton, Toorak, Sandy etc all still voted liberal last year.

The teals are a different matter at the federal level because Goldstein and Kooyong both include much lower income areas.

Nope, Toorak and Malvern are the federal seat of Higgins and for the first time in its history the seat went to Labour in the 2022 election.  There's been a growing push against the Liberals for the past 6 or so years in Higgins which came to fruition.

The electorates next door, like Kooyong, voted Teal.  Macnamara (which covers Caulfield) is also a Labour seat.

Sporting

Main Oval

The precinct’s premier facility, the Main Oval, has fronted Casey Fields since April 2006,  regularly hosting AFL pre-season, AFLW and VFL / VFLW matches. Adjoining the playing field is the Casey Demons / Melbourne Demons administration pavilion, complete with change rooms, a function room and office space both for the club and for state sporting associations. To facilitate the growth of the AFLW program, the facility received an $8 million upgrade in 2018-19 that saw the development of an indoor high-performance centre. The project, which also included a refurbishment of the existing pavilion, was made possible by $5m in funding from the Victorian Government and $500,000 from the AFL.  

Long-term plans for the Main Oval include an upgrade of lighting and the addition of grandstands which would lift the venue to a standard capable of hosting AFL Premiership matches. Provision for the addition of a drop-in cricket wicket also form part of future plans, which will open up the possibility of Big Bash League cricket matches being played at Casey Fields. 

this is the sort of initiative that should be being promoted with the Fishermans Bend development team who will be building a brand new community. A sporting club (MFC) partnering in a community entertainment and recreation facility would have a great impact.

Yes, Carlton had decades long links to the Liberal Party. That was a dynamic probably more at board level rather than those drinking Carlton Draught tinnies on the outer at Princes Park though.

Despite, the 'Blue Blood' historical connections at Princes Park, it did not stop the Gillard ALP Government splashing cash to upgrade facilities at Princes Park back in 2009 and the upgrades were named after the original 'Teal' himself, the late Don Chipp (who played a few games for Fitzroy in the VFL and was a passionate Carlton supporter).

Football club support can and does cross party political lines, what is important is lobbying, constant lobbying.

MFC members should be trying to lobby local politicians in Caulfield and nearby areas from all tiers of government - Local Government, State & Federal.

Im not so sure its a myth but I dont believe its a great option, an minor player in an add on to the major racving industry. Why not look at a new location, new site as major occupant with appropriate investment.
