In theory that is a good idea SD but they will hide behind confidentiality. We cannot discuss. Truth nothing is happening. No space is available in central melb. End of story.

Imagine anyone like admin, FD staff, players etc living Nth, West or Bayside (many AFL players live in these leafy salubrious burbs).

Must be taking them 1 hour plus to get over there.

Wouldn't be all that appealing to prospective players we might be trying to lure across either imho.

The problem DD is that there is no alternative. Throw up Caulfield racecourse that will keep them happy for a couple of years. Am I a cynic YES.

After all they been promising this since they were put in place, and the Board before them, and the one before them.....I have lost track of the number of times at AGM's, player sponsor events and member meetings where this has been sprouted. ....but we can't tell you anything because it is "in confidence"....or "we will have something positive by the end of this year"......then next year " we should have something to announce by season end".....

It was meant to be in construction according to the Strategic plan by the end of this year.

I don't think we are any closer than we have ever been George.   silence tells us there is nothing happening

I am probably no less cynical OD.

So with the Caulfield development, it was my understanding that the timeline for any possible approach by us to be included in discussions and possible involvement has long passed yes?

And what if that doesn't work? We could launch a protest at the head office, only problem is we don't really have one.

While maintaining pressure on the Board and CEO lets them know this is important to us supporters I think putting pressure on State MP's (provided 10's thousands of members do so) is a good way to let our elected officials know this could cost votes in the next election. The challenge would be to have sufficient numbers in a number of electorates that could swing results to an extent the MP's of all parties would support.

We were kicked out of AAMI park for the World cup.  Gosch's still available. Pies still have access to all their facilities, but their oval is probably being used for FIFA.

I understand the Wobbles wanted to rest their ground after some storm damage to it.

No world cup teams are using AAMI as a training base, and so won’t use the Glass house oval.

I expect the world squads to use the AAMI rectangle so they acclimatise themselves to the ground, the day before their game (six games scheduled). The games are at various times, including midweek. They needed our rooms I guess, so off to Casey.

I looked at this website to see the schedule and training bases for women's world cup teams.

Looks like only Canada at Olympic Park. Morocco at Werribee and Jamaica at the State soccer centre in Northcote.

I assume Olympic Park and the rectangular stadium are different venues

PS can you imagine playing soccer in Dunedin in July

Olympic Park Heidelberg.

For what it is worth I had a chat with a recent powerbroker at MFC who when asked about a home base, just said keep your eyes on Caulfield racecourse. I was surprised but further discussion was about the height of any structure in the middle and not obstructing the view so clearly some work has been done and will unite the whole club AFL & AFLW.

The mayor of Glen Eira council has been all in for years about the centre of C Caulfield racecourse becoming a sports precinct. He may well get his wish with state govt backing.

Watch this space but keep your eyes on Caulfield

While I understand many of us wanted a Home Base in the MCG precinct it seems that unfortunately it wasn't possible. Too many obstacles and problems. All the stakeholders, the NIMBYs in East Melbourne etc just made it too difficult in the shadow of the MCG. A shame.......but it is what it is.

While disappointed, I am happy to see a Home Base developed at the Caulfield Racecourse. Something which I think former late Demons champion player and President Stuart Spencer promised over 30 years ago. Better late than never!

Anyway, I will wait until we receive official confirmation from the Melbourne Football Club. No point getting ahead of ourselves until they actually start construction.

The positive about the Caulfield area is a lot of Melbourne supporters "generally" live around there. I myself used to live not far over in Ormond for about 2 years and regularly saw other Melbourne supporters in Caulfield, Malvern, Glen Huntly and Bentleigh. There is also the opportunity to develop community engagement in the area.  Although, we should continue to have community engagement in Casey as well. Particularly as we still have a 30 year deal with the Casey Council and it is a growth area too with many young families.

Caulfield IS the middle of Melb.... ..very accessible.  .

In an odd way it might put to bed this idea we're all silver-tails... 

I really like the idea.  Still keep some form of identity within the G...  but get everyone/thing in one place.
