I don't understand why the club is not pushing hard for state of the art facilities in the Southern stand redevelopment and use of Gosch's and also Casey. Wouldn't that be the cheapest option and get us a home?

Perhaps they are, but are silenced by a non disclosure agreement.

    Melbourne has expressed interest in building its new training base at Caulfield Racecourse as part of its long-held plan to bring the club under one roof.

    News Corp can reveal the Demons have held talks about shifting their headquarters — including a training oval and gym facilities — to the racecourse as part of plans to redevelop the site.

    But the move remains a longshot as it would require significant state government funding to create a community and elite sporting hub tipped to cost hundreds of millions of dollars.

    Discussions have centred on training ovals being constructed in the middle of the racecourse and linked by an underground tunnel to buildings outside the track.

    The site would be an ideal solution for the Demons as Caulfield Racecourse is only 12km and roughly a 20-minute drive from the MCG.

    Importantly there is a significant amount of public land available to develop in conjunction with the Caulfield Racecourse Reserve Trust in the heart of the eastern suburbs.

    But the Demons also remain engaged in talks with the AFL and the Melbourne Olympic Parks Trust about redeveloping the area adjoining AAMI Park.

    Car Parks E and F could be used to build a multi-story complex which would give the Demons more room for their own facilities which they currently share with Melbourne Storm and Melbourne Victory.

    The Demons have labelled their training facilities the worst in the AFL amid a string of setbacks surrounding plans to build a new inner-city home.

    It has been a frustration for the club which is currently split between the MCG (administration), AAMI Park (football department), Gosch’s Paddock and Casey Fields.

    The training base headache will be one of the top items on the agenda at the club’s annual general meeting on Monday, February 20 when president Kate Roffey and chief executive Gary Pert update members.

    Cripes Caulfield Racecourse??? HOW THE HELL AM I GOING TO GET IN THERE FOR TRAINING REPORTS?? I might have to become Bear Grylls, learn how to cross treacherous water ways, navigate like an Olympic Orienteerer, Learn how to jump out of a plane, and negotiating loads of Horse Sheeit. NUP

    Redevelop Murphy oval in Pt Melbourne or Fitzroys old pad or look at the land adjacent Flagstaff station

    Catch the train. Cranbourne, Pakenham and Dandenong lines pass through Caulfield.

    Well at least the club is finally looking at options outside the MCG precinct. Although feels like where a long way off getting a home.

    I think I can help with your problem. I’m pretty sure I won’t have any problems talking my way into a racecourse.

    I had heard rumours of this.

    The big question is whether it would be large enough to host AFLW games. Probably on non race days (or nights).

    That would be a game changer if it did. You could have the bare minimum in terms of fan facilities around the oval supplemented by the grandstand infrastructure. 

    Otherwise if it's purely a training facility it still ticks the boxes as it's in the heartland and is a blank canvas for an oval or two and club facilities. 

    That said, pretty sure the Swans tried to line up Randwick before getting their new facilities next to the SCG. So we could just be working on the same game plan.

    Before the redevelopment works - straight in the gate off Kambrook road, underneath the track and park by the BBQ's. Plenty of dog walking space and even some fishing in the lake. Never seen a snake either. All that's likely changed now because it's one big earth moving site last time I saw it. And the next time I'll go there's probably going to be a couple of footy ovals arranged in the middle of the place, whether we are training on them or not!

    I don't think I'll ever see a new training facility, we just go round & round in circles. For as long as I remember a new option gets bought up every few years and nothing ever comes of it.

    Straight into the tunnel at end of Glen Eira Road takes you right into the middle.

    You can’t have a high grandstand, if it’s in the way of seeing the back of the track.

    Caulfield racecourse has massive amounts of area inside the track and outside the track in the old stabling areas.

    You could have a low rise grandstand that goes around one side of an oval, with facilities underneath for example, that would not hinder viewing of the track from the racecourse grandstands and/or plenty of room to build in the outside of the track, in the old stables areas.

    Was there today for the first day of the new monthly craft markets in be middle of the track (wife has an earring business side hustle and goes to various markets).

    It's a cracker venue. Easy to access. Heaps of room. Heaps of current facilities for social functions - that are really underutilised. Not in the MCG precinct but close enough to it for the average SE suburb Demon supporter

    Pie in the sky stuff if true & bloody frustrating that our club which is the oldest  and bears the name of the city continues to be treated in such a way from the state gvt with no solution yet they are funding 140 mill for Geelongs stadium .. it’s a disgrace

    Would have been done if this was the case, there’s a definite issue with both local & state gvt, club needs to clarify what the issues are. Unfortunately previous administrators signed this deal with Casey years ago & whilst it’s yielded premierships across all of the teams it’s not realistic to expect players etc to drive and 1 hr to train. Will keep on saying has the club looked at the Port Melb ground ripe for development in area which will see a huge population growth over the next decade.

    Yep when I said grandstand I meant the racecourse ones. They could host your corporate and dining facilities. Definitely agree that you could sink the oval down a little and run maybe a one story low rise stand along a wing with some seats and weather protection. Some similarities to the Lions new venue.

    The development area after removing all the trainers is huge. I think they'd appreciate a pool, gym, medical rooms, business shared spaces etc if they could be shared with the community. They could link in with Glen Eira College to help present the case to the government.

      Having convincingly defeated last year’s premier and decisively outplayed the runner-up with 8.2 in the final quarter, nothing epitomized the Melbourne Football Club’s performance more than its 1.12 final half, particularly the eight consecutive behinds in the last term, against a struggling St Kilda team in the midst of a dismal losing streak. Just when stability and consistency were anticipated within the Demon ranks, they delivered a quintessential performance marked by instability and ill-conceived decisions, with the most striking aspect being their inaccuracy in kicking for goal, which suggested a lack of preparation (instead of sleeping in their hotel in Alice, were they having a night on the turps) rather than a well-rested team. Let’s face it - this kicking disease that makes them look like raw amateurs is becoming a millstone around the team’s neck.

      The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

    • REPORT: St. Kilda

      Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds. 
      This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
