What's the location then?

No so while we have our 2 location training bases all is not lost. The players are not dramatically or physically underprivileged with either facility.ย

If there was a simple answer to the problem of land availability NOW don't you think the Club would have sourced it?

We are ย unique in that for over 150 years the very MCG that enabled us to have a great advantage in our match and other facilities is the same facility that we wish to stand nearby and grief is caused by the land availability issue. Perhaps we should have never sold Bentleigh Club and ( if it was big enough I don't know I never visited there ) that msy be a poor decision which has come back to bite us.

Some D/L ers have no idea of how hard the land issue is to solve and it sickens me how casual they voice their opinion almost weekly on this topic.

It's a far worse situation if you were Essendon snd had over 6,500 days since their last ย Finals win, in fact 19 years and counting. We may well have a base chosen or built before their date.ย

It's a decision that can't be rushed ย and no amount of Board bashing or finger pointing will magically move the progress of this facility.ย

I suggest that some of the more dramatic D/Lers antagonists who are upset with the lack of progress form a group and start being more active and positive on this huge project that seems to have stalled in the State Govt and other stakeholders hands.ย

I still think we should have a preliminary discussion with the Tasmanian Government re what sort of facilities they could offer if we were to consider relocation. The AFL and State Government would both have kittens. Imagine the headline that the oldest sporting club in the world is considering leaving it's spiritual home due to a lack of commitment and investment from the State Government over the past 30 - 40 years.

This is not a good idea chook. Apart from the fact nobody likes having their time wasted, what if the AFL turn around and say theyโ€™d be delighted to facilitate our relocation. Solves a big problem for them.

That last sentence contains an interesting idea. The name of the group is easy, the DemonLANDers. According to the historical Financial Reports our President has been a member of the Facilities working group since 2016 and became Chair of the Facilities working group in 2019. The President would have to delegate DemonLANDers with some authority to get cracking on 58er's idea. Let's go DemonLANDers.

Yeah, they'd probably say "don't let the door hit you on the way out", rename us the Burnie Demons, and make a brand new club called the Melbourne Knicks or Jets or Yankees and set them up in a giant indoor facility built over the newly-razed AAMI and Gosch's precincts.

Maybe 58er is right get 66,000 supporters actively lobbying the State and Federal Ministers to try and barter for some equity in the large handouts that are being handed out to all these also ran clubs, rather than the Original, the Golden Child that created the game and the rules. We were exiled from the G so the then VFL could make more money - Where is the Compensation. Letโ€™s Sue the AFL and MCC. ย Did I go to farโ€ฆ.lol.!!!

The suspense is killing us. Sounds negative...ย

Ok here goes I was rung by a person from the club, not the President or Gary Pert. However they were of some importance and I believe they were well informed and honest. Basically what I have thought for some time appears to be correct and the information provided by Dante is correct. WE are now in a long term situation meaning nothing is going to happen fast. We have little power and are at the mercy of the Government, AFL and MCC. The club is bound to a secrecy agreement that they will not disclose details ofย  discussions. The reason other clubs are getting money is because they have a site to spend it on. We do not.

They have looked at approx 30 venues within the middle ground of Metro Melbourne and whileย  they would prefer to be close to the G they will look at any venue thatย  theย  Government brings forward.ย  He was adamant that the Olympic park Magpies episode would not happen again.

Currently we are using Goschs and Olympic park facilities and Casey. He believes that between the two we have facilitiesย  as good as most of our competitors. The club is committed to both venues for Girls , boys and VFL teams. also said they need both as one venue is not enough for the three operations.ย  He also said that contrary to popular beliefs the players do not see travelling to Casey as a big problem in fact they enjoy being able to train in privacy.ย

While admitting that it would be good to have one home for the whole club he did no believe the current situation was placing us at a disadvantage to other clubs.

Now some of the above you can say well he would say that wouldn't he.

My view is we are some time away from a central home for Players and fans but currently we are not at a disadvantage.I firmly believe it is not for want of trying, there is just currently no spot.

For what exactly? I asked him where the location would be and he didn't answer, just went on a facepalm binge.

In fact, if you read my posts, I said we weren't getting money because we didn't have a location - Is that incorrect?

we could be open to number of sites that fit our criteria at the same time as having a particular preferred site

i'll put it as a 0:0 draw

I'm sure we have lots on the list as OD mentioned the club had told him above, but we currently do not have an approved site. But hey, I'm sure Dante will facepalm Perty and tell him he has no idea...

Sorry OD, just the same old story we have been hearing again and again.ย  No action, always blaming someone else, always expecting a handout from Government, AFL.ย

About time we started planning and dipping into our own pockets, instead of being beggars and expecting others to help us out.

Currently we are using Goschs and Olympic park facilities and Casey. He believes that between the two we have facilitiesย  as good as most of our competitors.ย  Utter rubbish.ย  Just look at what Essendon, Adelaide, Brisbane, Bulldogs, Hawthorn, Richmond, Collingwood, even St. Kildaย  etc have today. And don't think the players notice, as Daisy alluded to.

And we still don't have as much as a single office for staff, being spread all over the MCG backrooms.

While admitting that it would be good to have one home for the whole club he did no believe the current situation was placing us at a disadvantage to other clubs.ย ย

Except that ALL other clubs have superior facilities, along with admin offices.ย  None of which we have after 160 years!

You've been pretty critical/vocal about the current board george, out of curiosity did you put in a nomination? Genuine question just due to your passion for the admin side of things.

Thanks for sharing od.

There is some new info re the venues we have/would consider and its good to get a bit more clarification on the reasons nothing has happened.

Just don't know why the club hasn't shared that publicly as here we are thinking the Board is wedded to the G precinct and relative inactive.

ย

As and aside, does anyone know if The Greens hold the balance of power in the Upper House?ย  That might make it tricky to get a new venue up and running anywhere in Melbourne let alone inner Melbourne.

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturdayโ€™s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFLโ€™s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterdayโ€™s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown andย  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
