Of course we did spend a lot of time at Casey this year which is now a good ground with good facilities. I think the Hawks are on to a winner if they manage to get it all inclusive and can make money from the function centre, medical centre, host their own aflw games, sublet the community facilities and so on. Being full time in a community helps with members and supporters too. Nothing compares to the right staff and players, but if you’re making money and it’s got a community feel you’re far more likely to succeed than the big white elephant type projects. 1 Quote

Time to get this Home Base built at car park F and not the ridiculously stupid idea of car park E! I would also like to see a statue of David Neitz and/or Nathan Jones placed at the Home Base. I think it would be quite fitting. Especially as Collingwood have a statue of Lou Richards at the Holden Centre. Hopefully, this very important matter of the Home Base being built at car park F will be raised at the next Melbourne Football Club AGM, when ever that will be? I personally think the "empty land" is the best location for the home base. It is the closest spot to the soon to be redeveloped Gosch's oval and it faces a main road which is excellent for marketing. All we need is a small footbridge over the exit ramp to connect the oval from the empty land. The issue with Car Park F is that it doesn't face a road and is still a couple hundred metres from the oval. In saying that however, Car Park F still much better than Car Park E 3 Quote

Building on a patch of land surrounded by punt road, the freeway and a freeway off ramp was never viable. There's no way to make that a safe and healthy work environment. 1 1 Quote

Chance the vacant land wasn't viable as it is land handed over to Transurban as part of building the toll road. Am I right in saying the expansion of the oval and building of the facility can't cost the park any trees? If so, makes for limited options! 1 1 Quote

And I think there's access under the off-ramp, damo. And @DeeSpencer, abutting heavy traffic routes seems to have technical solutions if the development next to the Kingsway exit from the Westgate is anything to go by! Anyway, isn't this fun, trying to guess what somebody no doubt already knows! 1 Quote

It could be done without any significant traffic disruption and could connect the facilities to the oval. Quote

CBDees 3,167 Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 There is always the possibility of an option that goes under the (elevated) Monash and over the off ramp (which is at ground level). From there, tiered spectator seating could slope down to an expanded Gosch’s Paddock oval. As Kent pointed out, trees can be replaced in greater numbers. None are significant and the area is little used by the public. Quote

Do you mean straightening the off ramp to become parallel with the elevated Monash Fwy and terminate at Punt Rd closer to the Yarra? That's a great idea. Would require traffic lights at that point, rather than the northward merge currently next to Goshes. The advantage would be that traffic coming off the Monash could turn left or right at the new Punt Rd intersection rather than just travelling north. This would completely open up the triangle to Goshes parkland Quote

Must admit a bit disappointed that the Gosch's Paddock isn't being fully developed (like in the Master Plan i came up with below) but something is better than nothing i guess. 8 Quote

This would completely open up the triangle to Goshes parkland I hadn’t thought about that but it is a great idea. Potentially you could have both – a tighter arc that rolls into Punt Road heading north and a fork to some traffic lights at the bridge to turn south as well. Win-win all round! Quote

Gouga 570 Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 (edited) Its a pipe dream now, but I wonder if this site was considered. Would provide a base halfway between the G and new training oval, with street and public transport access and the potential to expand over the rail lines in the future. Would require the tennis centre handing over some space, but seriously home many tennis courts do they need?! Edited October 19, 2021 by Gouga Quote

Supreme_Demon 4,140 Posted October 19, 2021 Posted October 19, 2021 Eddie McGuire is definitely a crafty one. They don't call him Eddie "Everywhere" for nothing. I recall we had the opportunity to move to the Olympic Park precinct before even Collingwood wormed their way in there. I think it was when Joseph Gutnick was still Melbourne Football Club President in the early 2000s? We certainly stuffed it up back then. Anyway, that's in the past now. Let's hope Kate Roffey is on the ball and gets this training base for the Demons sorted out and we have some further good news about all of this at the next Melbourne Football Club AGM whenever that will be? 1 Quote

I fully expect a Richmond Station renewal project to be announced as a policy initiative of one or both major parties before then. Just like a very fast train proposal gets raised before every Federal election. And then nothing happens. Quote
