This seems like a pretty half-arsed result to me, if you'd even call it a result

Half an [censored] is better than none, especially if you're at an [censored]-kicking party.

Some significant development.

Can someone give summary, it's paywall.

In another big win for the Demons, the club has secured State Government funding which should help kickstart the development of a new home in the city.

Melbourne has secured State Government funding to upsize its training oval at Gosch’s Paddock as part of plans to develop a new home base in the city.

The Demons have been hampered in recent years by the small size of their oval, which chief executive Gary Pert recently dubbed a “junior-size football oval”.

But in a win for the club, talks with Government this year have helped secure the funds to increase the width and length to AFL-standard size.

Fantastic news. Movement finally. 2021 shaping up as a very good year for the club

Great news! 35 years in the making

Announcement at 11, apparently.

Waiting and seeing. Hopefully more to this than what has been mentioned in the lead up.

Gonna beat the buzzer here. AAMI Park is being extended to accommodate the womens football world cup in 2023. Once that is over, a portion of the upgraded facility will be handed to us along with the bigger oval. Should result in our own gym, rooms, etc.

Bigger oval as in MCG size or Docklands size?

Marvel size unfortunately...

Is it no coincidence that as soon as Bartlett leaves we've made signsignificant inroads regarding this? I believe Roffey had a strong relationship with the state government around this whereas Bartlett didn't?

Roffey and Pert may just be bigger recruits then what Roos and Jackson were.

Significant milestone in our club history ??

Is this clumsy from Browne guessing that the funding is coming from the pokies sale? Surely it's co-funding with the State Government and our cash generated from the pokies sale...

I think he worded that tweet wrong.  Had he mentioned that it was from the state government funding, plus the extra funding from the pokies sales then yes it would make sense.

I suspect it is just a coincidence. These negotiations would have taken many, many months, if not years.

What I suspect is not a coincidence, though, is that the State Government has come to the party after we've publicly stated we're getting out of the pokies industry. I imagine any State Government approval was contingent on that decision.

hope we are able to get our own social club????

That would be the very last thing on the shopping list, if it is actually even on it.

Ohhh, was hopping for one ?

Press conference currently underway

$3M funding to upgrade Gosch's Paddock to "AFL size" (presumably that's MCG equivalent)?

$2M from MOPT, $500k from the AFL and MFC.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
