Different matter. Both sides of politics were up for that and now, as predicted, state governments are the biggest gambling addicts of all.

Gaming, as in off-course betting (the TAB) was legalised by Bolte's Liberal Government but I think you're referring to pokies.

If you were around at the time you'd remember the clamour for many years from the media (Herald Sun/ 3AW in particular but I doubt they'd admit their role now) for pokies and casinos because, you see, money was flowing over the border to NSW into Leagues clubs.  It was always a mirage but the push for it was immense. Incidentally it was Jeff - again - who handed a ridiculous quantity of Southbank to Crown for a dose of Lloyd Williams overkill.

Saint Joan of the poor introduced pokies. fact.  I already said I do not like kennett so I do not need a history lesson in his ugly relationship with Williams. By the by, how is Dan Dollars Andrews and his mate Lindsay . any news on Linday's quarantine, accommodation bid at his airport.

It's off topic, but to clear the record, the two pieces of legislation to enable the casino and poker machines into Victoria were both introduced by Joan Kirner.

Absolutely. The context matters though. People were sold a pup over many years by campaigns of self interest. They were warned but every city had to have a casino apparently. I avoid the joint like the proverbial. Ditto the pokies.

Hmmm, I think I smell a warrior.

Has it? I knew it shut down and then reopened. Perfect opportunity to buy the pub too then haha. There’s your social club ?

Absolutely no parking around the area so a major hurdle.

Could the Ever Given be our new training venue? It fits beautifully between the MCG and the Rod Laver Arena

Doesn’t that refer to certain animals with a short nose?

Preposterous proposal.  Something a bit smaller & practical like the Empire State building?  Just dismantle and cart across the Pacific.  Upright it would take up very little acreage and can probably straddle Brunton across the railway line with access straight into the G.  Easy access for the players too who could parasail onto the G on game day.

Looking at that picture.

Can we put a roof up on the MCG and train on that?

Just kidding.

I know we recruited Stephen May to play on the gorilla forwards, but as good as he is I'm not sure he would cope with any giant gorillas that might turn up to climb the Empire State Building.

I know this has been done to death, but I could never understand why we have not been part of this discussion:

As you can see from the artists impression, there are 2 AFL grounds pictured.

Because it's not within the MCG precinct ?

It’s in Caulfield....

If there are hospitable area managers and there is sufficient space for a real stadium for football, Caulfield could be a very good option for a 'home'. Transport, major highways, parking.

I think being within the mcg precinct would be ideal however it shouldn’t be the deal breaker. If a complex is built within metro melbourne that ticks all the other boxes then it should be seriously considered.

...within inner metro Melbourne..."  We don't want to be in Seaford, Dingley, Craigieburn or Casey, all considered to be within metro Melbourne.

The club has been negligent if they haven't pursued this vigorously.  A location close to each of the population centre of Melbourne, public transport and our traditional heartland ticks a lot of boxes.

We are Melbourne, our home is in the MCG precinct and we shouldn't compromise because the decision will impact our club for the next 50+ years.

For the project to be on scope, rather than on time, it needs to be in the MCG precinct, as per the Facilities working group.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?

It was only a preseason match but the new look Demons spearheaded by new coach Steven King looked impressive as they put on a clinic against perennial cellar-dwellers North Melbourne as they cruised to an 80 point victory at Casey Fields.
